  1. Clearly DD did not know or the deal would not have been done. I don't blame him for the trade to try and build a bullpen in 2017 as part of a championship run. Dave regrettably continued his bad BP luck by counting on Thornburg and worse, Carson Smith , a true idiot.
  2. It would be hard to rationalize the economics of Moreland going forward. He has missed considerable time for two years and been streaky at others. For his $6M , you can have Chavis, Travis, and 2 relievers . The LH bat matter gets partially addressed by keeping Holt and finding out if Marco Hernandez is part of the future or not. Despite not being my favorite player, you know that upside potential and low cost will keep LH hitting Benintendi on the Sox. Not sure you need to build the roster perfectly balanced LH/RH . Beni, Devers and Holt give you a start, with Hernandez off the bench maybe. Then there is Mr. Leon to help Sale carry his arm around, both of them bat Left, with equal results. You know Bradley will get shopped hard trying to avoid his $9M potential arb, and get anything of value back, including a backup to Vazquez.
  3. Did Thornburg get injured while in competition ? I thought it was an existing condition, finally diagnosed as Thoracic Outlet Syndrome after it was obvious Tyler couldn't throw worth a damn in STY. In fact, it was initially blamed on Thornburg's lack of participation in the off season pitcher strength program. The reality---DD traded for a guy who had a medical condition whether Tyler himself or Milwaukee knew anything about it. I suspect Tyler did know something wasn't right.
  4. I would watch Weber anytime rather than goofy Mitch Barnes
  5. Bogey, one of the most consistent this year. Earning his extension
  6. Love those cheap Pesky HR's. But that was Mookie's MO last night, so must not be too bad
  7. Clearly needs some rest, a mere shadow of his former 6'-9; 280 physique
  8. Breaking news--Mitchie 2 bags gets his second 4 bags in 3 months
  9. As tough as this season has been on Sox fans, you could always have had the bad luck to be an Angels fan. You might get to watch Mike Trout nightly, though even he is slumping now, but you will not likely see them in any playoff contention as long as the Astros and A's exist.
  10. Aside from discussing Rick's shortcomings, how about Mr. Betts, Bogaerts, and JDM's 0-11, the team's 1-9 with RISP. Devers redeemed his 1-5 with 3 Ks by making the 1 count for 3 runs. Beni's 2 hits accounted for 1 run. Bad day with the bats .
  11. I read Ian Browne's puff piece today on an alleged playoff roster. It said we have 2 of MLB's best 2 way Of'ers , oh and JBJr too. So based on Brownie's assessment, I have to change my thinking and become a Beni Backer.
  12. 3-51 when trailing after 6 innings got you down , Moon? Phuquing gutless wonders . Now need to go 15-9 (.625) to get 89 wins. Porcello pukes up 2 bombs in one inning to bury his guys. beni hits another doesn't matter HR. At least Hans Solo honored his own name.
  13. I guess 2 out walks by relievers are better than Porcellos, but it does raise some doubt.
  14. Devers showed he had problems with May's FB, so May throws him a slop curve down and in a bit to a LH power hitter. Jung, you got to love these guys throwing
  15. Devers delivers. Good for him and the Sox. Now its a game again. Bye, Mookie
  16. How does that algorithm match up with the Sox BP 7th inning algo ?
  17. Keep in mind that short of a real rally, the Sox came into this game needing to catch and pass the Rays first . The Rays loss in Game 1 of a DH with the O's was already posted. So big opportunity, and so far absolutely no reaction in a home game. Again, gutless so far.
  18. Brian Johnson---every GM's dream answer to some pitching difficulties. A true sign that Cora has bought a ringside seat for the "Wait til Next Year" parade
  19. And the hitters are showing some gutless effort.
  20. How can you be a MLB veteran pitcher , forget CY Young'er (hold the LOL), and have no more skill in throwing to spots, spinning the ball, low/away, up/in---whatever. It is called pitching.
  21. Rick's flat, mid speed straight ball flies well in the Manfred era. Verlander said today again that the ball is juiced , citing the MLB HR totals and the AAA increase of 60% over the prior year.
  22. i assume Cruz did not want to come to Boston when we resigned Pearce, and I don't care if he can't play 1B. Neither could Pearce this year
  23. Long, long night. 3 of the worst AB's strung together this year. Hopeless swings by Beni
