I agree that hitting with MoB is not a specific skill set, I do think the circumstances of hitting effectively are a bit enhanced with men on. The pitcher is under some stress and distracted to a degree by the men on. The defensive shifts or alignments are different . Playing for the DP pulls the SS and 2Bman closer to the bag opening the gaps to RF and LF. Subtle differences Regarding "chokes". Some guys would be better hitters with MoB , and lessen their LoB totals, if they would "choke" up on the bat an inch and put the ball in play. Like short putts in golf never dropping , Ks with MoB don't advance runners or score runs, except in the rare cases of catcher errors
