  1. Bello pitching like a champ, 2 outs, 2-2 count and gives a HR to Gavin Lux, a .214/.562 hitter with 4 HR's in about 275 PA's. Darn, but it might be a comeback win set up for Boston
  2. Pop up to lead off, then 2K's by #3 and #4 after a single by our A-S ? O'Neill is fully baked with a 45% K rate in last 15 games. He did have a 3 hit night yesterday but did not create any runs. Maybe getting picked off of sorts upset him. I know it did the fan base.
  3. Brayan Bello with a 10-5 record , proving W-L irrelevance for pitchers, and a 5.32 ERA will pitch for Boston. Bello will need one of his best games of the year to keep the Sox in this one. Justin Wrobleski, 24 year old July call up for the Dodgers who has only pitched twice, 10 innings total, in MLB with a 1.40 WHIP . But he does have Red Sox kryptonite in that he is a LH thrower. Maybe this is the game where the bats get back on track and a win one for Brayan becomes the battle cry. Saw some disturbing updates on injured Sox players. Story is making sounds that he could possibly be ready for October and the playoffs , if the Sox make it. Where have you been , Trevor ? The team missed you. Worse, Vaughn Grissom will start a 20 day rehab assignment today, and be sure of one thing, he will use all 20 days. Will he then be optioned for further work in Worcester. Who knows? Glad that we got confirmation of life on this dude. Worse yet, Triston Casas , who left us April 20, is not near a rehab assignment yet and could need all of August to be ready to play. What happened to that June 21 date? Dom Smith, who knew you would be having to earn your money . Worsest, Chris Martin is nursing the elbow inflammation back in Boston, so no schedule on him. It will be next week before Justin Slaten is expected to start throwing again, hoping his inflammation subsides. Amazing and good that a team can lose 33% of its expected starting lineup by mid April , along with a starting pitcher , Giolito, and Whitlock a little later and still be 10 over .500. This game today is declared an importanat one for the Red Sox to win
  4. No question Bernardino did not get his job done, getting a LH bat out. But the game outcome would have been no different had Freeman struck a single. 2 runs score, Sox done.
  5. Be sure to give me a heads up when he does get hot. Hopefully for another team, but he won't bring much in a trade. Subtract his April numbers and where are you with this RH hitting stud muffin ?
  6. But there is no such thing as clutch, Splendid . It is random chance that Freeman hits well with the bases loaded. Probably due to the pitcher being tired and not wanting to walk him, so he grooves him a hittable pitch.
  7. The umpire screwed Wilyer and Yoshida on the first pitch changing the whole AB, although Yoshi coped and got the hit. Wilyer is still learning the game
  8. 9 basehits for 1 run vs 1 swing for 4 runs. That's baseball and why field goals don't beat touchdowns
  9. That's a shame, a wasted start killed by a failure to hit in key situations. 9th inning comeback ?
  10. Larry Andersen, a brilliant move, by a team not making the WS for another 14 years after the deal
  11. The idiots of Anaheim rarely make a smart move, so Tyler Anderson might be bought with an annual pass to Disneyland just up the Katella Street. But for once the Sox have a number of chips to consider and play the trade with. Yoshida would look good in an Angels uni
  12. The race is on with 67 to play. Next 10 before the 7/30 trade deadline includes 3 in Dodgertown , 3 in Mile high, then Yankees for 3 at Fenway, finishing these 10 with Mariners at home. These 10 can be definitive guides for Breslow to make a move or three. Interesting challenges coming up. Can the pitchers each make another 13 starts , including Criswell or an Opener ? Can Casas make a strong return ? Can O'Neill get streaky good with the bat for awhile? Does Grissom still exist, who cares ? Will any trade maneuvers upset the clubhouse ?
  13. I would attribute the pitching improvements mainly to Bailey's influence to give up throwing weak fastballs , as well as general maturation of guys like Houck and Crawford. Bello hasn't quite mastered the mound yet, but should be benefitting from AB. Aside from that, Breslow has not made any player position moves that have made a big difference. Maybe Dom Smith is now paying off . Vaughn Grissom certainly is a failed experiment to date. Is/was O'Neill a plus move, or just temp labor? Debatable so far. Craig will be judged short term by what he does between now and end of July.
  14. I would be thrilled if Casas can come back sometime in early August and step back into his role as a starter. But , just a guess, I think it will take him a while ( 3-4 weeks) to get back to MLB speed. If so, the issue becomes, can Cora afford to keep a guy in the lineup who isn't yet productive over Dom Smith, who is on a run but can be inconsistent, .836 OPS last 15. Same issue arises if and when Grissom ever returns. Personally, I would not play him over DHam or Romy . But probably won't need to worry much, since Vaughn may have to recover at Worcester for awhile.
  15. In full realization that one of the Sox needs is a RHBat , Do you budding GM's think that the Sox could move Tyler O'Neill at this point? Tyler is in a serious slump with a 42% K rate and 1 HR in his last 59 AB's over 15 games. Could he bring a steady Eddie reliever ? Or as part of a package for a starter. Only a team wanting a rental RHH would be interested in O'Neill, since he's FA after the season. It's hard to see much interest from Boston to re-sign him over the winter . Does Romy Gonzales's flexibility at multiple positions, including 3B, make him more valuable than any other current infielder , other than Devers ? Do not expect big returns when Casas gets back on the field/batter box. I think it will take him a month of games to regain his skills at MLB speed.
  16. Since I knew the Red Sox were going to win today, i watched the end of O's-Yankees. I have since watched the Verdugo face plant about 35 times for the loss and not tired of it yet. f*** that hot dog and his neck chains. Yankees blew 2 shots at the 3rd out and couldn't make a play . Oh wait, this is a Red Sox site , and they did make the plays and hits except for Gonzalez, give the man a few days off and a plane ticket to LA. Incredible results for this group in '24 and more to come with reinforcements this time, maybe Craig ,baby OTH, the '23 Sox were 5 games over at the break, and went down the tubes thereafter to the 78-84 basement level. Not this year.
  17. Huge series win for the Sox. Great end to play before the A-S break. Kenley can now enjoy the break with a 2 inning save. CB better know which lane to be in for the remainder. There are still holes to be plugged for this team, but enjoy the way over .500 finish and the development of some young players. The draft is now imminent, could we get the next group of guys that will be pushing up the roster in a couple years.?
  18. Reamarkably great pitching by Crawford in a game against tough competition. Kudos to him. Just as exciting was the hitting side. 5 isn't a huge score but it's a winner often. Contributions from Smith and McGuire help a lot. Rafaela needs to chill and study his batting videos while taking a few days off. . I hope people saw Raffy grab his left shoulder on his final AB after a swing/miss. Glad he is bypassing the A-S game . It may be a stretch for him to play out the final 68 games without a rest period, hopefully not an IL stint. Overall a great game and time to go for the series tomorrow.
  19. Actually Alex Cora has done a great job this year , along with Andrew Bailey, to take a no depth roster and suffer immediate season ending injuries to 2 scheduled starting pitchers , his SS and you may as well throw in Gruesome Grissom. In any given game Cora is forced to start 3 or 4 true rookies or AAA replacements with limited futures. To have this team where it currently stands is an achievement . Cora will get paid this off season and earned it.
  20. Just amazing that this momentarily 10 game over .500 team is about to be -3 at home. As that total idiot Cora says, it's the crowd's fault.
  21. poor AB's by Abreu, Duran, and the new K King O'Neill
  22. I hope you are having a good time because you have become insufferable. yes, the Sox are losing solely due to Cora's gross incompetence. And you are much more a Bloom than a Bialystock type.
  23. Including that HR to open the 8th, Weissert has thrown his last 3.0 innings and surrendered 6 earned runs. Begs my repeating comment, to what question is Weissert the answer ? I know, lack of pitching depth.
  24. New team name: Boston Red Chasers, or K's for short
  25. Just for grins, AC, do not lineup O'Neill and Devers back to back . Both are having problems . In last 3, Raffy 1 for 10 with 5 Ks, O'neill 1 for 10, 6 K's. I give Devers much credit for waiving off the A-S game in order to rest his left shoulder. It may be hurting right now. But until he learns to release his left hand on his follow though, he will continue to have chronic shoulder pain.
