  1. A viable Grissom, maybe platooning with Hamilton, could be a step up at 2B next year. No more Valdez, please. Sogard isn't the answer either. Gonzalez has value ( as may others in or out of the Sox system) by playing 1B and 3 B , though not real well.
  2. At least yoshi makes enough contact and Toronto bobbles a bit to get the run home. Why do i care. I personally hate to lose anything.
  3. F'ing Story K'ing with a man on 3rd and no outs, A DP would have tied the game. He is a veteran chaser, no excuse like the younger guys. Not likely to become a Story fan
  4. Splendid, O'Neill is one guy I will have trouble remembering who he was next year, and not care.
  5. Rafaela chases one pitch but delivers his 75th RBI with a sharp single with the bases loaded. Given the contract and ability to drive in runs, maybe the Sox should just work with him a little bit . The outfield play, undersstanding call offs would help too.
  6. But note that of the best 12 teams in MLB, 11 of them lose their last game. Sox could win their last , so there's that
  7. This game. Warning track power for Boston, wall power for BJs. Sloppy sliders from Bello and Sims. Slaten is past his expiration date too
  8. Looked like Abreu was calling that ball in RF. Good thing it does not matter in the grand scheme except to highlight the 2 rookies, Abreu and He who shall not be mentioned.
  9. My only comment on the Rfaela deal, especially in September is that he is slightly built (5'9"/165??) and has played a full season ( 150 games and still counting) . He has played 2 demanding positions well enough that management has not seen fit to sit him down. That's all to his credit . The swing/miss choices and OBP are poor. But consider, young Caribbean basin players, including DR are looking at a chance in a 1000 to get out of their countries and enjoy generational wealth for likely a large family . They were not going to get signed for walking or bunting. Swing the bat, something may happen. I think Cedanne, Abreu, Devers, and Guerrero for BJ's are examples of this. Rafaela's contract was a year premature and should have been dependent on his self improvement.
  10. As mentioned at the end of yesterday's game thread, odd time to run off a win streak with key players shelved. But when it still mattered they were not capable of supporting good pitching. I'll watch small parts of the final 5, but lost any serious interest in this group a couple weeks ago.
  11. Odd isn't it that when the chance at a playoff appearance ( singular) remained at hand, the team ( hitters) could do nothing to support effective pitching, but as soon as it is just beyond reach, and minus Devers, K.Jansen, Refsnyder, the team can run off a 3 game streak. Baseball is odd that way.
  12. It's easier with the relatively small sample size of a season mostly spent on IL, doing game interviews.
  13. The incredible climb back to the .500 level continues on the broad back of Casas, the stat builder when it doesn't matter. Let's check game 2 and see if the holy grail of .500 can be reattained. Since the Sox high water mark of 11 over was achieved, one could deduce a negative win rate of about 12 games in less than 1/2 a season.
  14. Best way to start a 10 game win streak is with a DH ! Oh wait.....
  15. Eating Grissom and obtaining $17 million would have been a better deal
  16. Too many candidates , especially with Raffy out and O'Neill not in the lineup. But my vote goes to the Ironman --Vaughn Grissom , a player whose mere presence is a rare achievement.
  17. Looks like it is farewell to Raffy Devers , finally capitulated to his injured shoulders . See you in ST Also farewell to Rob Refsnyder who contributed a season valued beyond his low cost. A professional ballplayer in all aspects . Will he come back for 1 more. let Rob and family think about it. If he doesn't that is one more RH bat that Brez neeeds to find. Hope Ref returns.
  18. A 1 hit shutout, no walks. WTF, these guys have a new trick up their sleeves every game. Lose a series where they scored 5 runs in 3 games. Checked out fully . Can't wait for the happy horsecrap in the Spring on how the kids are getting better and we got Sale back
  19. No Youk tonight. I think it is Middlebrooks
  20. If OB thinks the Sox bats look slow tonight, wait until he sees them tomorrow night after the players get to their homes about 4-5 AM after flying back from Tampa.
  21. We'll see what Cora does with certain players when they do get officially eliminated from the chase, maybe by Monday or Tuesday night
  22. No saying he eats too many eclairs and it slows his bat down
  23. Jansen's throws are becoming predictably weak and now has created an issue in the 7th.
  24. So Devers K's in 7 of his last 8 AB's , the 8th being a GIDP. NO MATTER what his issues are, he needs time off
