I agree. Mayer, if healthy, will be the third baseman or second baseman. They do have to have power at two of the three positions of 3B, 2B and 1B. Alonso at first and Schwarber at DH would solve everything:)
A solid #3 starter, one more good bullpen guy, a power hitting first baseman (preferably right handed bat), a second baseman, and if Bregman doesn't return, a power hitting, good fielding third baseman. Easy list for Breslow.
I'm talking about no chance right now and in the next 5-10 years based on what the Dodgers are able to do with their money and being able to cherry pick the Japanese stars. Marlins haven't won the WS in 22 years.
St. Louis, Kansas City, Cleveland, Milwaukee, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Colorado, Arizona, Florida, Cincinnati have no chance. Those are small market teams.
Yes, I know the Blue Jays could have won the game and the World Series but they didn’t. Once again, the Dodgers have an unlimited budget and they are able to sign all of the good Japanese players. All of those foreign players should go in the draft just like everybody else. Small market teams have no chance to win the World Series and compete with that. There are many high school in college players that would love to be able to just pick the spot where they play but they can’t. They go in the draft. It should be the same for everybody. I did not watch this year‘s World Series because of that very reason. Baseball will continue to lose fans if this keeps up.
I am still peeved that Eaton did not score. This is an excert from the article from today's NBC Sports Boston website:
"Eaton was at third base and looking at Chisholm when the second baseman made the throw. Meanwhile, third baseman Ryan McMahon was almost standing in the shortstop position, paying no attention to Eaton. With speed and base running being major factors of Eaton's game, he should have known that he had plenty of room to get frisky by bouncing off third base toward home plate, knowing that there was nobody at the bag to tag him out if a throw came that way."
I blame it partly on Eaton for not having baseball instincts but its really all on Kyle Hudson who couldn't seize the moment and make a great decision. I have seen enough of him to know that the Sox need a new third base coach. Grady Little didn't survive a boneheaded decision in playoff loss to Yankees and neither should Hudson.
Bello was not good last night but he is far from a bust. 11-9. 3.35 ERA. For 9 million a year. That's cheap for a starting pitcher. He is still very young.
Watch the video from the third base camera. Eaton was past third as Chisholm was starting his throw. He would have scored even if the throw wasn't dropped. With two outs, you have to be agressive there. Make the defense make a play. Hudson is not a good third base coach. Blew the game earlier this season against the O's by not sending Eaton in 11th. Apparently he doesn't like sending their fastest runner.
No F****** way. If Eaton keeps running all the way he scores standing up. He was rounding third as Chisholm was starting to throw before Hudson stupidly put out the stop sign by pointing to third base. Huge blunder.
