  1. Whatever good thoughts I had for Damon, suddenly vanished.
  2. We finally have a truly genuine need for Castillo, and his cost keeps him playing in the minors. I agree "poor guy." And Sox the are a lesser team because of this luxury line. What a lose lose situation.
  3. Presently, we are genuinely in first place... that is, in both versions. Let's stay there till the end. And Sanchez is hitting 200 even. That's more good news.
  4. I'm a great Moreland supporter, but this board has often not been, so I find it a bit ironic that he's pointed to as the suitable cleanup hitter now. I want him to stick in the 4th-5th role all season, but his past performances say 6-7th guy. (I hope that toe problem was the main reason for his being a average hitter last year)
  5. Building up V's pitch count helped us win this one.
  6. I thought he would pick his hitting up once he was given a chance, but so far, no such luck.
  7. As long as he's winning, most think his moves are perspicacious.
  8. Yup, but not so long ago he was .358 or higher. That's called "trending downward" in today's lingo.
  9. I knew it was too good to be true.
  10. Bogey is trending downward. I thought that for sure this would be a breakout season for him. For now, I'm wrong.
  11. The trouble with relying on Moreland to "protect" JD is that no way in hell is he a proven clean-up hitter. His record shows that he's at best a good solid 6th-7th hitter. We can try this and maybe Mitch will come through, but there's no real reason to expect that he will. And if you were to look at all the comments on this board about him, the faith you have in him must be brand new.
  12. Why Travis?? He's hitting .220 with 4 homers. We've got a real lineup problem without Betts. Nunez may start hitting, but right now there's not enough good hitters to fill the lineup. And yes why pitch to Martinez at all? Our lineup looks like a National League one... lots of easy outs, and no DH except we do have a DH. We need Ortiz back.
  13. It seems that if they're treating soreness after a few games with 10-days rest, it's not all that likely that Pedroia will be our everyday second baseman this year. Sounds like at best he platoons with Holt. It's a good thing we got off to a good start because we may need the padding the way things are turning downward. Are you all ready for a single game showdown at Fenway with the Angels in Oct.
  14. Without Betts, the balance is all off. And too many weak hitters in the lineup.
  15. I wonder about Betts playing tonight. He didn't pinch hit last night with the game on the line. Why wd he suddenly be ready to play a full game?
  16. Yeah, remember all those high-scoring world series games... Devenski comes in tonite with a two run lead, walks the free swinging Andujar, and then gives up a homer to Gardner. Luckily he wormed his way out of lots of further trouble. Extra Innings
  17. Our man Sandy Leon is hitting .254, and GARY Sanchez is hitting .210. So much for our needing catching help.
  18. Yeah, that is funny. That is, the move, and what you say.
  19. Crazy indeed to see a guy hitting third all season released, esp when all we heard is that the chief reason for this was that Cora loved the guy. And yet now we pretty much know it was Cora's suggestion that he be dropped, and not DD's. Go figure. I guess Cora was just giving Hanley the best possible chance to prove himself and while not exactly failing, failed in accordance with what the contract cost this year--and esp next year. He's gone because unless he hit with power and average, he needed to be gone. It was another failed signing.
  20. Hanley has dropped from .333 to .255 and lately has been hitting into lotz of double-plays on top of all the strikeouts. This team has to begin a serious assessment of Hanley for next year.
  21. I don't want to cut Leon at all, but why no pinch hitter for him?? Weird.
  22. Yankees are a half game out today, but have the best record in all of baseball. This is going to be some race... the race to stave off that wild-card playoff game. We'll both end up killing it just to avoid this stupid game.
  23. Pedroia Beni Betts Martinez Moreland/Hanley Bogaerts Devers Catcher Bradley
  24. I don't know about humidity, but I know cold air is very resistant to movement. I get way better gas mileage in the summer than in the winter. I imagine that cold air makes homers very difficult. One ball that Pujols hit against Yankees early this season was estimated to travel 475 feet (speed and arc of hit off the bat) and was caught by a stumbling Yanks left fielder who had a hell of a time tracking it, and collapsed when he did. It was said the Yanks won the game thanks to a sheet of cold air which drove the homer to the ground.
  25. The one to Betts was pure ******** and almost cost us the inning if Beni didn't bale the ump and the team out. Bring on automated balls and strikes.
