  1. Of course, I hate Ramirez hitting third. And JBJ should hit 9th. But I'm guessing that in these lucky-start Florida games, this will make no difference. Ramirez for me is a 6th or 7th slot hitter. And there's so many guys on this team who could effectively hit third, but Ramirez is not one of them. May he prove me wrong. (or is this 3rd pos. temporary?)
  2. It's always iffy to give up first class defense, esp with a questionable infield. And if it's for cash, I mean that's like for nothing.
  3. He hasn't got much cushion there. And the team doesn't have much cushion in the first few weeks when we should be making hay. I sure hope he can start next Friday.
  4. Why was Sale pulled in the first inning of today's game??
  5. We could be a better team this year, but that doesn't necessarily mean more wins. There's a hundred other factors that determine the actual number of wins, including the decision to rest players before the playoffs if a seeding has been won. Wins also depend a lot on how we're being pressed either by the Yanks, or by say the Guardians or Astros for seeding rights. You win more when you gotta win more. And let's not forget our typical rotation's fatigue, and injury-proneness as a factor in the number of wins.
  6. In response to the last two funny posts, I thought it was just fans who thought this way. "He's due" I would say and sometimes the commentator would say.,..
  7. I can't see any of these ST games. Is Mookie actually looking bad at the plate, striking out a lot, swinging at bad pitches... or is he hitting liners at people. It's hard to imagine him going this long without even a bloop hit over third base. Is there any talk about the problem? Has he seen an eye specialist? Will he leave ST hitting .050 or .250? What's the line on that??
  8. Advantage Yanks goes to homer power: Judge, Stanton, Sanchez, Bird, Hicks, and Gregorius. Yanks x factors: Severino and Montgomery. I'm guessing they'll pitch beyond expectatations. Red Sox advantage could be a barrage of doubles--and maybe, just maybe the return to a high team batting average as in the past (no reason to doubt the possibility of a .283 team average, although first pitch swinging will undermine this)
  9. As to counting errors differently... because there is little or no consequence doesn't change the fact of the error. The starting pitcher has to throw 6-7 more pitches for one, and possible many more, and to boot pitch under more pressure. The defense is under added pressure etc. To me an interception in football is an interception except on the rare occasion it's as good as a punt. Turn overs in the NBA are always a nemesis.
  10. That's good news. Before his injury,he seemed to be so competent and confident, as if headed for stardom on this team. I could never quite figure out exactly what happened to him after that long recovery period--that is, apart from lack of a suitable position.
  11. I'm sure you're right. I just noticed a pitcher who threw 11 pitches over 2 innings, walked one, and threw 11 strikes. (ESPN shorthand, or maybe ESPN is short-handed)
  12. JBJ is our Marcus Smart (Celtics). Everyone complains about his offense, often want to trade him, yet we all know he might be one of the best all-around players on the team and that his absence would leave a vacuum which would be hard to fill. PS I notice that in these pre-season games the pitch-count and strike count is often the same or very close. Is this bad stat keeping or free swinging??
  13. Speaking of spending and not spending, I can't believe that Morrison gets 6.5 mill for a lousy one year contract at age 30 after hitting 38 homers last year. That's what I call getting shafted. Well, I hope this JD contract gets done.
  14. I heard that the physical process takes much longer when the salary exceeds 100 mill. And certain tests take a long time to read.
  15. There are starting pitcher question marks on both the Yanks and the Sox. Pitching, whether starting or relief, always tends to be questionable. But I think we may have a starting pitcher edge, and possibly an edge in the bull pen too (tho that Robertson addition is potent) But we cannot match their murderer's row which goes on and on whereas ours stops almost as quickly as it starts (at least judging from last year's offense)
  16. One thing we needn't concern ourselves with this season is JD's embitterment at being low-balled. He's got the best to two worlds: 25 mill for two years here, and then a chance for even more. The only loser, if any, could be the Sox and that's only if somehow he loses it in his second year and for the rest of his playing years, and decided to stay and collect 20 mill per. But the latter is very unlikely since he'll be playing for keeps in that 2nd year.
  17. I wonder if Dickerson bargaining will be one more reason for holding off on JD--and LoMO (or is he already signed by now) In any case, Dickerson's salary is 6 mill this year... so get him, then onward to Cobb. (six very good starters is almost a necessity)
  18. Corey Dickerson is about to be put on wavers by the Rays. (god, those Florida teams have been giving away guys left and right--Odorizzi today for nothing also) He hit 282 last year with 27 homers. Why not grab him and then sign Cobb and a reliever to boot.
  19. How much money do we have left in terms of the 237 mill max? I assume we're around 210 mill right now. (not sure what Nunez got) In other words, is it JD and someone else or just JD??
  20. I know that would be my decision, no matter if I was worth more than 13 mill or not. A very livable city.
  21. Methinks he'll return at end of April. My compliment to the poll-maker for a poll that has intelligible and reasonable choices.
  22. Well, we're in the running for Martinez, Watson, and Hosmer (we're the only team listed followed by a (?). But a good chance we get NOBODY.
  23. I hear that the Yanks are eyeing Cobb, but will only sign him if his value descends to about 12 million. I hope it doesn't, because he would certainly back-up any of the question mark Yank starters. And thus seal off the only possible weakness on the team.
  24. I would think so too. If they trade Gardner (11 mill and a glut of outfielders) they would have room under the luxury to sign Martinez and a pitcher, although one demanding less than Darvish and Arrieta.
  25. I heard an ESPN discussion offer the possibility of the Yankees making a one or two year offer to Martinez for say 28 or 48 million. This would break the impasse, and it wd replace their interest in the more expensive Machado for next season. If it failed, it would minimally raise the price for the Sox. Talk about gluttony. They might as well field an all-star team.
