  1. Wilson is probably a speed merchant at 6-3 175. If he makes it to the bigs, Sale will have a team-mate almost as thin as his 6-6 180. (both weights are probably slightly inflated)
  2. This is incredible--13 players gone from the Yanks. And now we lose perhaps our second best starter for a couple months. If I were Tampa Bay, I would start signing some vet help because this may be their year.
  3. I believe TB has three starters and that one is injured, so those relievers who get tonight off, will be subject to a 9 inning workload tomorrow. It must be hell to for TB to go extra innings. Methinks if they cont. in their winning ways they will secure a couple of starters on or before the trade deadline.
  4. I'll bet he goes on the DL. And then a decision forthcoming about who replaces him, and who's to play second going forth. I mean with only three bench players, the Sox cannot afford to mess around, and must act quickly--thus the DL.
  5. But those who do take bets on it base their odds on the moment as much as projection, so this slow start has already lessened the Sox odds. I think Vegas is giving the Yanks around 95 wins and Boston around 91. This is a substantial change from the season's beginning. (The Yanks get the higher projection because 12-13 players are missing and they still lead the Sox)
  6. Yes, it does seem this way. What makes it even weirder is that there seems to be a lot of weak lineups all around both leagues. Like what great lineup have we played against so far?? I'm sure tonight's Yanks lineup was hardly what they wanted to go up against Sale. Speaking of weak lineups, ours, while intact, is playing like one.
  7. So true. I watched the Yankee broadcast, and Michael Kaye said he hit 100 on one single pitch, which was poked to the outfield... I think a foul ball. Yes, this was the one big improvement tonight. He also started off in great fashion in terms of pitch count... until the 2 run inning. Still, Sale did not like his performance, and let us all know by his temper tantrum in the dugout followed by an exit into the tunnel (this after the 4th inning) I even wondered if he was coming back, but he did and lowered his ERA from 9.0 to 8.5 thanks to Judge's early start form third on a tag up.
  8. If you use the F word like 99 more times, maybe someone will hear you.
  9. Ir Erasmo and Leon came by Greyhound, no wonder they're not much into this game. I grew up on those damn fumes.
  10. I've never heard of the Yanks 9 hole hitter, but he has 4 rbis.
  11. One big difference--several 97-98 mph pitches.
  12. I think the Sox managerial staff came to the conclusion that Swihart wasn't going to be a .285+ hitter, so why entertain him any longer as a catcher. There was no other spot for hum, so bring back our 3.2 era catcher and all the stability and familiarity that goes with him. And take it from there--with the starting pitchers.
  13. Lucky Tampa Bay. They don't have to concern themselves with long expensive contracts, because they don't give out any. We have one such contract in its first year, and it's already worrisome.
  14. This is esp. true with tonite's Yankee team... 11-12 guys out with injuries. Bird is the latest to go down. But I like the "Bench" move, no matter the game tonite. (Sale is the real focus in this game more than Leon who will have just gotten off a plane)
  15. That's right Swihart is 27, so why do so many here keep calling him "the kid." I assume it's to say the Sox didn't give him enough time. In any case, Leon had a 3.2 era last year and the team probably has a 7-8 era right now... no doubt, this played a big role in the early decision.
  16. Sounds like the Celts waiting on the playoffs for a chance to finally show that they really do have the best team in the East.
  17. I wonder if Chris Sale is going to be reserved for big time games. So far, he's started the opening season game, the home opener, and tomorrow he starts the first game of the season vs the Yankees. His next will probably the opening home game next Monday vs Detroit. So far, his fill-ins are 0-2.
  18. When Cora steps down, he will be replaced by a black box developed by Amazon's A.I. or some other silicon valley corporation.
  19. In a way, it seems like defense is more important to a team with great pitching. I mean how do you defend home runs and walks? But if you have a staff that walks 2 guys per 9 innings and allows .65 homers per game, a great defense would then shine and contribute more. Maybe if our pitching goes truly south (as in more than 15 games) we can trade Bradley and Vazquez for a couple of big boppers so we can at least enjoy a home run derby in a losing season.
  20. Does this mean the Henry makes 84 million a year? If so, then three of our players may soon be making much more than he: Betts 40 Price 33 Sale 29 == 102
  21. 1) Leon is very sound, but last year he hit like .180. We should be able to carry him, though, given no other weak hitting spot in the lineup. This is also true of Vasquez, who hit around .210 last year but has a lifetime avg of .245 which is 4 points higher than the .241 average of both leagues last season. 2) We should definitely pick up ground on this home stand because we have 4 games with the Orioles who were predicted pre-season to lose more games than they did last year which was like 115 losses... maybe more.
  22. Not the best day for him to pitch if he still isn't fully back. Right now at 1:11 pm it's 38 degrees and cloudy. It seems that no rain for the afternoon hours, at least. I don't recognize half of the hitters in the Jay's starting lineup--and almost all have low averages, so that my be a plus for Sale's next step. In fact, a lot of teams in the league may be a plus for him... some terrible lineups this year.
  23. I doubt we can rely on BP starts, mainly because I see our BP being overused because of 5-6 inning outings by starters. Unless, we decide to start playing musical chairs with dependable Pawtucket guys, I really don't see it working.
  24. As long as V can hit .250, he's fine, because on defense he's better than average--ON AVERAGE. (no single game can tell you how good or bad he is)
