    Devers and Vasquez have more than made up for the lesser seasons of some of our big guns.

    Yup. the NYC Ballet. two triathlons canceled also. One dancer said that if a horse can't go 10 minutes then how am I supposed to dance for 3 hours.

    96 in Baltimore right now. To be 101 tomorrow. They canceled the races today at Saratoga, and the ballet. Baseball goes on. I hope Rick likes the heat.

    I think Cleveland and Oakland will be our two toughest opponents for the Wild Card. I see TB dropping below us at some point, but the other two hanging in all the way. Of course, Minny could easily replace Cleveland in the WC race. As to this thread, it should definitely exist, no matter who starts it. And J is the opposite of the taunter. In today's perverse dumbed-down world, his reasonableness and baseball knowledge is much appreciated. The other Yank poster I don't feel at all the same about (in my limited knowledge, of course).

    We're lucky tomorrow's game is at night. I believe the yanks play the next two in the afternoon...predicted temps over 100... Sunday may be 110. (heat index)

    Given the big heat (terrible playing conditions), Price has a good excuse for a less than so-so outing.

    Interesting time for both the Sox and Yanks, just when all the injured players are coming back into the fold, the trade deadline is upon us. Stability meets Shakeup. Let's see what our roster looks like on Aug 1.

    At times I think there was a kind of romance in re-signing Pearce, Moreland, Brasier, Eovaldi--and, of course, maybe Chris Sale too. This becomes even more true when you factor in the price paid for most of these players. Probably the only one of these I would have gone for at nearly the same cost is Eovaldi, but even with him I worried that he might have been over-worked in the World Series, and thus possibly damaged. In any case, if only a couple of these guys had been signed, we wd have been able to invest in an bullpen, one that may have inspired better performances from our current starting rotation. But I still think we can rise up this year, tho. , but only if we luck out with July trades for Pitching Only.

    One day off should be automatic. If not needed, then two. I guess they just don't make ARMS the way they used to. It's the same exact games, but somehow the ARMS ain't the same. Maybe we need to expand the roster to 28, but boy it's hard to believe that even 8 relief pitchers are too few. In 1955, 13 pitchers on a staff would have been a joke.

    I guess Price has been the only pitcher this season who hasn't been up and down. As E-Rod comes up, Sale goes down and vice-versa. All this accounts a lot for our poor showing.

    Extra inning games, of course, really mess up this one inning rule. It means that each team needs to have one pos. player who can pitch, or resort to jerking with the starting pitcher rotation. It also messes with Tampa Bay's strategy. Extra innings for them are a disaster, esp. if an rp has started the said game. I think it's better to get 2-3 innings from a reliever followed by a day off, then to run this one inning parade every night, and still tire these guys out to no end.

    But nothing slows the game down more. Even broadcasters become stupified. You can hear it in their voice. And the rule puts the brakes on specialization.

    These reports certainly have a grim tone to them. As in, can we be actually sure any one of Eovaldi, Pierce, and Moreland will be back before Sept first? Oh well, all three will be rested up enough to once again be post-season heroes, which we will need even more than last year.

    Has there ever been an AL season sporting so many bad, embarrassingly bad, teams as this year. It's almost like this 'Wake me up when the regular season's over.' The only unpredictable teams are Oakland, Tampa Bay, and Cleveland, two of which have no fan base. Most of these losers don't even care to fight for Single Wins against the top teams. And it's only going to get worse after July 31st. What would help the competitive balance would be hard caps at both ends as say 90 million to 200 million, returning to a 154 game schedule which would highlight lame efforts better, and yes speeding up the damn game even if it take robot umps to enforce it.
