    I'm aware that Pivetta can't get the win but the official scorer can decide who is more deserving of the win, which is usually not the guy who gets the 15th out and only the 15th out.

    That's what I'm thinking, Sox have Whitlock on a plan, and pitching him for an inning or more would break that plan and likely make him unavailable for the Houston series. They got a cheap quick out, and he will be good to go in a day or two in Houston.

    Not fully endorsing the Whitlock pull but I'm guessing Coras line of thinking is he gets 1 out and saves him for the Houston series.

    This is how baseball is played nowadays, teams utilize relief pitching more. The days of the 200 IP are over. That comes with saying that having a guy who can go 8-9 every once in a while and save the pen would be valued on this team.

    I don’t think those are bad trades at all. I might be a little reluctant to trade Downs for an outfielder. We don’t have a 2nd baseman in our future anytime soon if it isn’t Downs. I can see Duran inserting himself into left with Verdugo/renfroe in center/right. Not that Duran/Mullins/Verdugo wouldn’t be a nice outfield either I just want to upgrade 2nd first. More than one way to skin a cat I suppose.

    I can live with a guy or two like that in my lineup if the defense is good and the rest of the lineup is good. Problem is, the Sox have 3 #9 hitters right now. The first 1/2 of the lineup is as good as anything else out there though.

    Must be a bust. Maybe we can trade him for two bags of baseballs.

    Sometimes sitting makes you a little rusty. I can see a team coming off a five-game series getting into a bullpen game one and doing some damage against some rust.

    Oh I agree, I think Bobby Dalbec is a better player than he is right now. I'd be willing to bet money he's going to be better than his current stat line, what I'm not convinced in is that he's going to be much better than he is now. I think he will be a regular somewhere I'm just not sure Boston can stomach his long stretches of nothing and K's.

    I think it would be fair when comparing the two to point out how much younger Casas is than Bobby Dalbec. If Casas went to college like Dalbec he’d be looking to go into this years draft. At this point in Dalbecs development he wasn’t even in our system yet and Casas is dominating AA ball.

    The way the minor league schedule worked out Greenville only played 3 teams the first 3 weeks of the season. I think the pitching on those teams was pretty bad, helps seeing the same guy over and over again.

    One thing I'm certain of is the higher in the draft you go, the less likely need is a factor. I'm sure it's certainly this way in the first round for most teams.

    I agree, I think it's always some form of BPA. The way I see it is when they're down in the later rounds and over 600 guys are off the board no one has a definitive board where player x is the BPA, and player y is BPA available after him. They have guys in tiers of talent. I think at that point it's easy for a team to say we need HS pitchers because we have no pitching depth in Salem/GCL etc. Of course, going from 40 rounds to 20 rounds may change things.

    MLB said the changes to the baseball would only reduce the distance by 1-2 feet on balls hit 375 feet. Maybe they've had more of an effect in Yankee stadium. I'm wondering how much of a factor that may be. If the Yankees can't hit home runs they're very beatable. I wouldn't write them off yet, they can still go on a tear. They are the New Yankees, and they almost never suck as much as we want them too.

    Jester Downs is the #2 prospect in the Sox system, his ceiling is much higher than Kike Hernandez.

    We could do this with Duran too. Same scouts say he’s a potential fringe starting outfielder, with the ceiling of an everyday starter. What if he doesn’t reach his ceiling? He could probably still carve out a job on this roster but I suspect we’d want more from a starter.

    Then he’s a much better 2nd baseman than Kike Hernandez and for less money.

    I don’t think he has much more than a .225 maybe .240 hitter. Personally I don’t think he’s here long term.
