  1. Seems like Barnes can't spot anything but his fastball tonight and even a few of those have been outside the zone, but he's getting the job done.
  2. That would be nice, but at his best he's an ok pitcher. I'm more concerned with his durability. We bought high on a relief pitcher who is already showing signs of fatigue, perhaps he's battling an injury but it looks like his velocity is down.
  3. I still hate the Pomeranz trade.
  4. can we trade for Travis Shaw?
  5. If Kopech is as good as they say he can be then every single other player could bust and it will still have been one of the better drafts of the past several years.
  6. Idk, the Yankees look pretty damn scary right now. Honestly I'm jelly too, they are building their team the exact way I wanted the Red Sox too.
  7. If don't owe and you're getting money back you can wait years to file your return. There's only penalties for filing late if you owe. The govt isn't in a rush to pay people back. They'll keep your money interest free until you ask for it back.
  8. Not due if you don't owe
  9. It's tough to blame this on Farrell he took heat for doing the opposite a week ago. But I'm just envisioning the post game interview where he shows no emotion, no compassion and gives you show me nothing vanilla answers. I have to wonder if he's like that in the clubhouse too? Somebody needs to light a spark in this team. Even last place teams score more than we have the past week.
  10. Fire somebody, fire something.
  11. We've seen some of the best offensive players in the game play on 90+ loss teams. You can't make up for 8 guys sucking
  12. Ortiz can't help a team that is averaging less than 2 rubs the last 8 days. I mean unless he was like a 500 RBI a year guy that is.
  13. Grab your pitchforks folks
  14. With Ortiz it might be 1-1....maaaaybe. I don't care how good you are you can't score if the ENTIRE team is laying an egg.
  15. This team is really hard to watch right now
  16. I know it's early and they will turn it on eventually but this team is pathetic right now. Even if they win the division you have to worry that they can suck this much for this long in a playoff series. You gotta score to win, this is just sad. Again I know it's early but what the f***?!?!
  17. Not that I have a ton of confidence in him, but it is early and he was out for an entire year.
  18. Aaron McFarling‏ @aaronmcfarling 1h1 hour ago Red Sox prospect Michael Chavis 2 dongs tonight -- exit velocities of 114 mph and 115 mph. Stanton territory. Hit dong last nite too. It's worth noting Chavis allegedly played hurt all year last year. I'm not saying he's a guy again....but he's someone intriguing
  19. Johnson has a nice 4 pitch mix with good command that plays up well in the minors. His stuff is so fringey though, he doesn't have a plus pitch or an out pitch. this is likely what he is, a 5th starter type. He will have days when he's on and able to pitch to contact while nibbling the corners but he's just not that good.
  20. Perhaps not, but so do must prospects. We've known Ball has been a bust for years. It happens, even to the best drafting teams and those who constantly pick on the top ten. I still think he has a much greater chance of adding MLB value on the mound. That might not be saying much, but we need to forget the first round shine.
  21. Relax Bono it's early, this team has shown they can battle back
  22. Hopefully a Johnson can get through the first and calm down
  23. Price can't get here soon enough
  24. I disagree. Ball was considered a much lesser talent as a hitter than he was as a pitcher. The success rate of high school position players who project as 2nd round or lower pick, is very bad. Even if all Ball is, is nothing more than a #5 swing man starter type, that is still tremendously more valuable than a guy who never makes it to the majors. Also, he's lost a ton of developmental time with the bat, and that really matters a lot to these young players. It's also much easier to switch from hitting to pitching than it is from pitching to hitting. For these reasons when organizations bring in two way players they often have them hit first because if they fail there it's easier to move them to the mound than the other way around. A perfect example of this is Bobby Dalbec. I think we have to shake off the 1st round pick shine from this kid and take him for what he is. If he has a chance to be a MLBer as pitcher, even as a 6th or 7th inning reliever then we keep him there.
  25. I was listening to the Soxprospects podcast yesterday and they were talking about Balls starts. I was a little encouraged at the stat line of his last start but the scouting on him was the same old stuff. No uptick in his stuff, no added velocity. They mentioned that if you look at Ball and envision him as a young 17 18 year old it would be easy to be high on him. A tall LHP with a projectable frame who could be dangerous if he's added velocity. The problem is his projectable body isn't filling out, he's not adding any velocity and he just isn't really developing. Best case scenario I see a #4 starter for Ball if he puts it all together, and while that may be dissapointing for a #7 pick when you consider 1/2 the top ten guys don't even make it that's not half bad.
