  1. Oh yeah, 6 HR's......so many bombs.
  2. Yeah, he's been very pedestrian all year in Portland. Only 6 HR's in AA as a bat first first baseman but let's promote him all the way to Boston based on a game you saw or read about. This has to be a joke.
  3. I think the question is what value is he to this team replacing Dalbec going down the stretch? A lot more than Bobby D.
  4. It's even more confusing because they gave Franchy all these reps down in AAA like this was the plan and now they're just not using him that way.
  5. Yeah, I don't get it. He's 4/12 since coming back up. Insanely SSS but you hope his lifetime OPS vs. RHP plays up and you get a decent platoon with him and bobby until Schwarber is ready. That....would make sense to me.
  6. Until Schwarber is ready I think you go with the Franchy/Dalbec platoon at first base. That will be much better than just Dalbec who has zero chance at hitting RHP. Dalbec is .561 against RHP vs. a .798 OPS vs. Lefties.
  7. He was replaced at the deadline, it's just not an immediate replacement.
  8. This was exactly what I thought was going to happen when they traded for Schwarber, then they didn't pick up a 1B. The Sox have the worse production at 1B in the MLB, that's your black hole offensively and defensively. Sox got Schwarber for one B evel prospect, they're throwing him at 1B. It's happening.
  9. So, 1B is not good for the hamstring but running around in the outfield is? I don't think so.
  10. I'm just saying, if his first game in a Sox uniform is LF/DH, I wouldn't rule him being our starting 1B by year's end. I just don't see who else it can be right now if the team wants to make a serious run.
  11. This was 100% my position recently, even after they traded for Schwarber right up until an hour after the trading deadline. There's no way the Sox are living with Dalbec at first, and there's no way they're burning two roster spots on a Franchy/Dalbec platoon. Schwarber has even openly said he's willing to play 1B, that tells me there have been internal discussions with him about playing 1B. Kyle Schwarber is your new 1B, the question is do they start him right away or ease him in there?
  12. This makes sense, first-year anniversary is sure to bring the pain back for some. Mookie Betts might have been my favorite player, but life goes on.
  13. Let him prove himself next year. Maybe with close to a full season under his belt he's able to up his game enough to let his power show and become a respectable 1B. But we're in August and he's been awful all year, with 5-7 game glimpses of hope, but we need to make the change. His roster spot could be used to add a pitcher, we need pitching bad on this team. I have to believe at least some of the woes stem from overusage, these guys need rest if they are going to help us in October.
  14. I may want to flip flop EROD and Eovaldi, I think Erod is going to pick it up, he's been good in stretches this year and he's been extremely unluck. If I had to pick one guy who is the most likely to turn it around in the pitching staff I'd chosen him. You better hope he does because this team needs someone to do it come October.
  15. Years after the fact and we still can't come to terms with the fact that Mookie didn't want to resign here and wanted to walk, the Red Sox knew that and got what they could for him when they could. It's really that simple.
  16. At this point, Bobby Dalbec is in danger of being optioned to AAA.
  17. Schwarber .337/.491/.828 Bogaerts .353/.460/.812 Devers .338/.515/.852 JDM .354/.528/.880 You just added another hitter of the Bogaerts/Devers/JDM caliber to this team. Your bullpen was taxed and you added two relievers, one of which dominates lefties when your rivals got lefty bats. You didn't plug up SP, but you're going to 6 man it with Houk to give these guys some rest and get Chris Sale back. Regression is normal, and some of these guys are going to pick up back up and finish the season strong and that's your #2 #3 starting pitchers behind Sale in October. Sale/Erod/Eovaldi/best of the rest.
  18. If you asked his question several weeks ago that would be a fair answer. The starting pitching was never great this year but it was good up until recently. A month ago they were about league average in starting pitching. Still, it's been their bullpen that's been great and they're tired. Many of them are on track to shatter their record IP, which is why it made sense to pick up a reliever or two at the deadline and add Houk. I hope these guys can get some rest and turn it around and I think that's what Bloom is banking on. SPrinkle Chris Sale back in and the team is set. Is that a little wishful thinking? perhaps, but you won't see me moaning and whimpering because the team is in a funk. 162 game season, even 100 win teams are losing close to 40% of their games.
  19. If you want to argue the semantics of what defines the "goodness" of a hitter and slate him as #3 or even #4 instead I don't really give a crap. He's automatically a premium bat and one of the best hitters on his team and that's a fact. Want to argue over what number? I'll leave that for others but here is the fact. When he's inserted into the lineup his OPS will be second in the team. Whether he's the 2nd or 3rd best hitter that's a major offensive upgrade, especially when you consider the Sox have had the WORSE production at 1B. That was my point.
  20. Not that it isn’t a disappointment, but if they don’t sign Hickey they don’t get a pick back. At least with Fabian they get #41 next year. After a two year freeze bonuses are going up next year so it should be a lot more money.
  21. It’s not like they’re just losing the pick, they get back 41 and the money with it next year. Next year is said to be loaded with prep pitchers. Going to be nice having 2 in the top 41.
  22. I’d hope his next start is in Boston, but consider this. Is it all about innings pitched? Is that the only thing that seems a pitcher done with rehab and ready? What about his mechanics? Is he repeating his delivery? Velocity? Secondaries? Consistency? Etc. there’s more to the equation than the raw number of innings pitched. I have a hard time believing he’s not MLB ready after his last start. But I don’t really know.
  23. I’ve come to realization that Schwarber is likely to play 1B and I was wrong. Here’s a guy who’s going to plug a hole and arguably become your 2nd best hitter. People can be upset that they didn’t address pitching needs, but let’s not act like the Sox didn’t make a significant upgrade. They did, and they paid much less than their counterparts in the AL East.
