  1. Was not competing against*
  2. You’re not 100% wrong. But tell that to 22 year old Felix Hernandez. Although two years later he won a CY YOU G despite only going 13-12. Of course, that might of been because he was competing against Bartolo Colon who beats out blatantly better pitchers for a CY YOUNG strictly because of his wins.
  3. I remember not having a problem with the trade because I thought they were buying the prospects, would actually go out and get a better outfielder and use JBJ as a 4th outfielder. They did not do that.
  4. Why would we have traded Pedroia for a suspect though?
  5. No its not.`Atlanta has the most talented position team in baseball. They have Orlando Arcia at SS, he's 28 a former #6 overall prospect, plus defender AS this year and Ozzie ALbies at second who is one of the best 2b in all of baseball. Grissom was drafted in 2019, 2020 season was canceled so 2021 was his first full season in pro ball, debuted in 2022. Was obviously rushed but still hit very well for a kid barely out of a Ball. While those two played at the MLB level he dominated AA/AAA. His defense was a very small SSS, probably won't be a good defender at SS but many believe he should be at least an average defender at 2nB. He only played other positions because with the two mentioned above thats how he was going to fit onto the roster. Happens all the time, if people remember a kid named Mookie Betts had to move to RF because a guy named DUstin Pedroia was at second.
  6. Moon or Bloom? what does it matter. I don't think anyone in Sox nation would be complaining if we had the Braves roster right now. We'd be expecting to compete for a world series next year. A good plan can look like s*** if there's no execution. None of their middling moves help to win in the interim, they havent' put any real effort to bring in and develop young pitching talent, and they've refused to make trades that could of helped the teams future at the dealine (Bloom 2022). But yeah, you know the FO is f***ing up when even the more optimistic fans have turned a little cynical.
  7. You could also say they wanted him so badly they gave up Grissom for him. Maybe the 17 million was negotiated down. Maybe they refused to take any money, or only 5 million, and it was negotiated up to $10 million they would take.
  8. Oh without a doubt. I think the Sox are willing to spend when they feel the time is right. They want to spend when they think they're good enough to compete and then it's worth it to them to go over the cap. But they want the flexibility to get under in a year or two every time they go over, which is why they're weary of long term deals. They likely wanted to emulate the Atlanta model, build up the farm, extend the young core, and when they're ready go for it. One thing I can reconcile, that I will probably be ex-communicated for is that it's not a bad strategy. The thing is.....they didn't execute it. Bloom didn't deliver, and I think that's why he was ultimately fired.
  9. Ok, I guess we will have to stop beating what once resembled the carcass of a dead horse. I will say this though, if you like the trade, it doesn't happen if they don't kick the money in.
  10. Despite peoples opinions, stances, or perspective on things I don't think anyone can argue with that. It certainly has been a frustrating offseason.
  11. Literally everyone in the baseball universe has called this trade a win for the Red Sox. It's actually a win for the Braves too, and heck it's a win for the players. Grissom didn't have a home in Atlanta, and Sales time had passed here.
  12. You're also discounting the fact that they gained a RHB with upside. You can discount the upside because you don't young unproven talent but regardless, that's money saved. The Sox now no longer need to get a 2B, of course, they might of rolled with Valdez and upgraded with a RHB elsewhere, so the trade might of else made it unecessary for them to go after someone like Teoscar Hernandez (20 million). In which case, Breslow might of actually got a hitter who is young and could be better going forward AND actually saved $3 million by not having to spend $20 million. Of course, maybe they don't go out and get Tim Anderson or Whit Merrifield instead who are projected to get between $9-12 million. So in that case, the only really lose 5-8 million per year. Every projection of a Snell/Montgomery AAV still puts them below the cap. If Breslow is not allowed to go over the cap, he most certainly is allowed to go up against it. This move 100% does not prevent them from getting starting pitching. This statement in no way shape or form predicts that they do. They very well might not, but it Sale/Grissom trade is not preventing this.
  13. You know I'd believe that at one point. But why hold onto him for 4 years if he was hired for that one thing? Anyone could have traded Betts to the highest bidder.
  14. I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said that. I'm trying to #bebetter
  15. We traded 1 year of control, in a year we pressumably won't compete, a guy who is often injured, for SIX years of team control of a young stud. That's a win no matter what, just the chance itself is a win. This notion that the Sox won't spend because of this is beyond brainless. It's perfectly reasonable to assume the Sox won't spend on any big name free agents, it's perfectly reasonable to assume they're not as comitted to this team, It's perfectly reasonable to assume they don't want to compete with the top dogs for most free agents. But it's beyond recklessly abusrd to think that not saving $17 million (FOR ONE YEAR) is going to influence what they would spend on Snell or Montgomery. The Sox have a figure in their head that they would be willing to spend on those guys, and that figure may very well fall short of signing one, one might even say it would be a good bet they won't. But if that number, whatever it may be has NOTHING to do with $17 million. It's 17 million for one year, a year that even if they did go over the cap (which they won't at this point) they wouldn't even come close to paying harsh penalties associated with the next tier up, and even if they did go over they're in a position to reset next year. The Sox will either sign Montgomery or SNell, anyone who thinks they needed to save more money on a 1 year Chris Sale contract is beyond help or rationality. They're ready to be spoon fed whatever narrative the media spews at them that feeds their confirmation bias. The irony here is, they will clamor on when Snell and Jordan likely sign elsewhere, which is irrelavent. They're were likely not signing even if Atlanta ate 100% of Sales contract. It boggles my mind that this is apparent to people. It's perfectly possible to understand that fact and still see the Sox as being mismanaged and cheap. It's a not zero sum game.
  16. You’re literally too dumb to have an honest rational conversation with. I bet you went to the school of hard knocks.
  17. This is exactly what I said last week when everyone thought they were cutting payroll and weren't willing to go over the limit, stating that trading Chris Sales money prevented them from buying a better starting pitcher. It doesn't. Of course they still might not upgrade the rotation anyways.
  18. I love how people make an assumption, purely based on their own cynicism. Then use that assumption as the basis of their opinion. Why can't we just argue the facts and when we do have conjecture base it in reality and precedent. I mean, you call something sad, something that you just guessed. I'm currently running 2 jobs on indeed. All those people come to me. I would be willing to bet if instead I approached people and tried poaching them from other positions, I too would get a lot of people who are already happy, well paid, and established on the other side of the country with their family. When you do that, you're obviously going to get no's. Another baseless opinion based purely on cynical driven pessimism that no one wants to come here. Like, there's only 30 of these jobs, if someone really wanted to a be a GM, they likely would have interviewed for it. I seriosly doubt there was one guy who turned us down who would have accepted an offer in NY/Toronto/Baltimore etc etc.
  19. Would you feel better if they were doing the same job but all had a different title????
  20. If promoting within and giving people all sorts of titles in the front office with a pay bump is "dithering" then literally BASEBALL is having a dithering moment, not the Boston Red Sox.
  21. It's literally just a title, they could have named him supreme chancellor of pro scouting. This is what front office baseball has turned into all around the league. A guy is really good at his job, he could leave you and go elsewhere, you throw more money and a title at him, and move on. Some teams don't have more than 1-2 assistant GM's but rather have 3-4 assistant Vice Presidents. THis is nothing to be upset about.
  22. I don't think it, I know it. It's happening all over baseball. Read up on some of the other front offices. Read above ^^^^
  23. What do the Dodgers have? at least 3 assistant GM's I believe. https://www.truebluela.com/2022/1/18/22889800/brandon-gomes-general-manager-dodgers-front-office-promotions
  24. Every front office is bloated nowadays. The good ones and the bad ones, so having multiple assistant GM's certainly has no correlation with the success or failures of the team. There's just nothing to really complain about here, again, this is happening all over baseball.
  25. Yes, no one will be shocked, INCLUDING me. I also will not be shocked if he pitches very well. I suspect that if his head is right, as typically most men are a year post seperation that even if he isn't great he won't be as bad as he was the last 1/3 of last year. Even if he's the pitcher he was the first half that would be fine for 40/2. He's still only what, 28, 29???? I'm fairly optimistic on this signing. Not going to Vegas and betting on him winning a CY Young, but my take is certainly realistic.
