  1. ughhh, I literally could of just scrolled down two inches.
  2. He's definitely a big leaguer in some capactiy, I just don't think he's an impactful player. I don't know about his speed but this is what his soxprospects.com scouting report says. Run: Below-average speed. Solid instincts, but not the most fluid runner. Has the type of body that could cause him to get slower as he matures.
  3. I'm still confused as to why Bobby Dalbec is still on the roster. I get emergency depth and all that but as they've clearly shown you can just go out and get a guy like Garrett Cooper easily. He's a righty, I wonder if they can throw McGuire a first basemans mit and have him hit against some Righties. Might be able to piece together some decent production out of the position.
  4. That's the thing about him, he doesn't have those other ancilliary tools like speed, defense, arm etc etc. If he did he might be a MLB caliber player
  5. I don't even see where 90% is compiled to be honest but I've heard it used before. There's a lot of data that is being used now that isn't exactly public.
  6. That's a good question, I'm not exactly an expert on this stuff as well. What I do know is that exit velocity data over the last few years has been a very good predictor of success. It's why they called Duran up last year even though the stat line didn't look great down in WOO and he lit the world on fire his first month, it's why they promoted Roman Anthony from Low A even though his numbers weren't great at all. The Statcast data showed those guys were hammering the ball and just getting unlukcy, and they got moved up and proved it.
  7. It's not just about QTY though, its largely going to be about money spent. Maybe the Sox go high school SS at 12 this year but save money and spread it around to pitchers with their 2-5th picks.
  8. Meidroth isn't hitting the ball hard, if a player is hitting the ball harder the majority of the time (regardless of how hard he can hit it compared to other guys) he's average exit velocity rises. Meidroth apparently has low average exit velocities.
  9. Oh they just started that this year didn't they? still I can't find the information online, maybe they're just posting it if you're watching milb.tv????
  10. They look at max exit velocity, 90% exit velocity, barrel percentage, average exit velocity. He's a small dude, he doesn't impact the ball well. That doesn't mean he won't be a useful big leaguer, he's just never going to be great. He's not first division starter quality.
  11. I did say I wasn't saying these guys can or can't help us now or in the future. I pretty much took guys on the top 40 who have to be added to the 40 man this december.
  12. There is statcast data for minor leaguers but I don't think it's public. So this is hersay from scouts, but I seriously doubt soxprospects would report him having poor exit velocities if he does not, I know they either have access to that data or talk to people extensively who do.
  13. The Soxprospects podcast talked about this on their latest episode. Given the new Bailey/Breslow battery at the top of the organization and the good amount of depth they have on the position side in the farm system it makes sense that we may actually see a very pitch heavy draft this year. That's quite the prediction given the recent trend.
  14. Is he making solid contact? I thought he had below average exit velocities. MLB pitchers will challenge him.
  15. I'm not saying any of these guys can help us now, I'm not saying they can't nor am I saying they may or may not be useful later in the season but here is a list of some interesting names that will need to be added to the 40 man this december. Often times, when these guys are knocking on the door they get brought up late in the season for a look, which makes sense when trying to decide if a guy is worth protecting. Some of these guys could play there way up to Boston this year, fall off a cliff (figuratively) or be traded. Dick Fitts Nick Yorke Blaze Jordan Nathan Hickey Christopher Troye Nick Sogard Grant Gambrell Luis Guerrero Eddison Paulino
  16. What is absolutely EFFING insane is how much the narrative this offseason was about fixing the pitching. That was the one thing we all agreed about and both sides around these parts agreed the Sox had done little to nothing to address it. Yet here we are, with a rotation that's effectively at the momement our 5th starter through 9th starter option coming into opening day and are pitching is shutting down teams and keeping us in games. I don't think they're going to hold up quite this well all year round but it's certianly a testament to the growth these young guys have made and to the coaching staff this year. Now bring in the Breslow/Bailey equivalent for a strength and conditioning coach.
  17. Not really, because eventually guys come back from injury then you run the risk of having to dfa guys and losing them. If anything the 40 man becomes much more relevant. You have to make a decision of adding a guy like Tyler Heinamen over Kavadas so you don't DFA someone. It also puts pressure on teams moving guys from the 15 day to the 60 day prematurely to prevent losses
  18. Weird, I think Hamilton might be a DFA candidate over Valdez, but I think Valdez would be sent down before Hamilton. Hamilton doesn't have as high of a ceiling but he adds more value to this roster with Grissom back than Valdez does. Valdez is pretty much a bat first platoon player. Hamilton can play all over the diamond, not particular well put you can plug up a hole when you really need someone. He also has 80 elite speed. With Grissom/Rafaela up the middle what is valdez? a bench/utility guy who can't field and can't hit lefties?
  19. Oh, no one has said that yet? Well I’m certain a lot of us are thinking it. Sox have been nailing rule 5’s lately.
  20. Also given what Bello got, what would Houck, and Crawford expect? especially if they continue having the seasons they're having?
  21. His comparision is showing the stat line of guys who succesfuly made the move from AA to MLB and came up and helped the team in one season. He's not comparing them as players. He's literally arguing against me and I got his reference.
  22. I was thinking August, and it's hypothetical he has plenty of time, one good week could completely change his stat line. He hasn't exactly looked lost at the plate either, and he's been good the past 10 days. I'm not betting on it, but I wouldn't be surprised either. It's a very plausible scenario.
  23. When the season looked lost a few players have stepped up to pick up the slack, sanwhiched around those 3 losses was going 3-3 against two good teams at the top of their divisions (although we just booted CHC to 2nd). We are on the cusp of starting to get some guys back, Pivetta soon, hopefully Bello is ok and Grissom coming back up. How well we perform this next week and how well these players perform when coming back can really set the tone moving forward.
  24. Sox are making all the moves I had been calling for at various points. Garret Cooper was one of the bats I suggested in the offseason when it was obvious they were going cheap, I figured he's be a great platoon option and offer production against LHP. And recently Bernardino called up, Joely gone, Cam Booser up.
  25. I don't disagree, but I can see a scenario where Rafaela becomes the full time centerfielder again. If Mayer pushes down on the farm all year and absolutely shoves and is mashing in Worcester, I can see Rafaela moving back to the outfield to make room for him at SS. Between the health and production of Duran/Abreu/O'Neill/Grissom things could look a lot different. But I was a big fan of him moving to SS, the Sox planned on playing him there once a week allegedly anyways which I'm a big fan of.
