I think to varying degrees they were not unrealistic. My tone was more geared towards the ideal that any time anyone makes a trade proposal it's going to create controversy. If I could travel through time and identify every trade the Sox make the next two years and post it here. Half the board would call it absurd. I tend to find most people either greatly undervalue or overvalue are own players.

Again, he's a talented arm. Good teams take guys and fix them. I never suggested they trade for him to be a 2025 starter. I like to buy low and sell high, of course in this case you may be buying low and staying low.....but at least you bought low.

Exactly, and it's not like you're trading any high end talent for him, nor are you signing him to slide into your rotation for 2025. Good teams make deals like this and fix guys.

I make the first 2 and sign Burnes. Now you have two legit aces, 2 legit mid rotation guys (one of which looked like an ACE for much of this year) and two legit middle to back end guys who at times can be or may be better. Starting 5: Burnes/Alcantara/Houck/Bello/Giolito Swing man: Crawford/Whitlock Projects (guys who have tremendous potential but haven't put it together yet) Preister/Detmers. Minimal drainage of the farm system. Still under the luxury tax, team set for years.

I 100% never said the David Price contract was an example of the flexibility of ownership. I said it was an example of them having a philosophy and then changing it. Which they did. They did exactly that. They've done it 3 times over the past 3 decades. For better or worse, whether they never do so again is irrelevant, because they have and those are the facts and the facts are indisputable.

People keep on saying that over and over again, and I don't dispute it and I don't think anyone else can at this point. I just don't believe they HAVE to always be a mid market team, it wasn't too long ago they were not. For the sake of argument, I do feel it's prudent to stress other ways to improve the roster thru player development and trades but I refuse to be beaten down into acceptance. There's more than one way to skin a cat, and John Henry certainly knows he's perfectly capable of making money without being a cheapo. The more complacent fans become the more likely this is to ensue. And as I've said time and time and time again, the direction of the wind changes. It wasn't even a decade ago we all said the same thing and then BAM!!! David Price gets signed. The big boy socks will return one day, and we should demand it.

I kind of made this point earlier, perhaps it was on another thread but I agree, depending on price, no one is untouchable. And yes, it would be very surprising if the Sox signed Corbin Burnes, and it would be a paramount shift in FO strategy given recent off seasons, but they will sign someone big some day, perhaps it's in 10 years under a new owner, or perhaps not. I wouldn't bet on it, but I'd welcome it.

And the guys you trade for might not ever be as good as they were before you traded for them. And the guys you sign in free agency might not ever be as good as they were before either. I like taking risks, and right now my preferred path would be to keep guys like Campbell and Anthony and go out and sign guys like Corbin Burnes and maybe trade for an elite closer.

I don't know. The thing with Rafaela, in my opinion is he doesn't have a high ceiling, I don't think he will offensively be much more than he is now. He MIGHT BE!!! but probably not, and how much does a defensive wizard who you put in the back of your lineup get in FA? I don't think Rafaela would fetch that much, I actually find his extension a real head scratcher. HOW he adds value isn't exactly an arbitration killer, there's a very good chance the Sox saved very little money with that extension in what now looks like a very crowded outfield. I like Rafaela, I like him a lot, I hope he's the starting center fielder for years to come. But he strikes me as more of a take your 6 years and be done type of guy. (at least for now.)

If the Sox did absolutely nothing other get 1 elite starting pitcher and 1 elite relief pitcher. I'd be super super excited for next season.

This is exactly why I want to buy pitching. Build a winner now with the young core of position players. Use the next wave of prospects to trade from and to and lengthen that window.

If the White Sox really really really really liked Abreu, he's still probably the 2nd best piece moved in a deal for Crochet. And that's IF they really really really like him, I'm sure the like him, he's a good player, but do they really really really like him? IDTS

It will be fascinating how the offseason develops. One thing that's hard for us to see as fans is how other teams internally evaluate our roster and prospects. Maybe Mayer is the guy you think gets traded for a starting pitcher, but some teams are going to be higher on him than others. I'm sure if every team did their own top 100 list Mayer would be top 10 on some, and probably bottom top 50 for others. I think it's all about return. Perhaps Duran gets moved, perhaps it's Abreu, perhaps it's a prospect package. Heck, maybe they trade one of their outfielders and load up on pitching in the trade market and go out and sign Soto. realistic? probably not, but the point is we don't know. I'm going to say that the Sox are going to make big moves this offseason, but at this point I feel like a man who predicts rain every day. One day.....one day I'll be right.

I think 3 is good over/under. If Fitts is definitively the 6th guy, he's getting plenty of starts over the course of a 162 game season. Of course, the guy who gets injured always could be Richard. I think Campbell and Anthony are good betts to graduate, Anthony looks elite and MLB ready, Campbell close to the same and fits and immediate need. I'd bet more against Teel than Meidroth, I think Teel is going to be a much better player but between roster fit, needs etc etc I can see Meidroth getting some MLB playing time. The roster flexibility he provides makes him a good up/down candidate all year. If Meidroth doesn't get a lot of playing time it could be because Mayer stayed healthy and along with Story the Sox sustained a good bill of health in 2025. If Story goes down and Campbell is already up, Meidroth is the next guy up. So one way or another I see a good 3 in there. I think Teel is funny, because teams he could really use more seasoning behind the dish, but he's probably close to ready now and if a catcher goes down at some point in the season he's going to get called up. I think he's a lock to making his debut in 2025......just not sure if it's soon enough to exhaust his rookie eligibility.

I wouldn't take him out of the top 4. I just don't think he has as high a ceiling as the other 3.

If you have a higher ceiling, and you hit that ceiling, you're going to produce more value.

True, but Betts was also a HS draftee, and didn't fully start taking off until his second full season in the minors. Campbell was just drafted last year, as was Turner this year. Of course, those guys are also college draftees, hence the comp, still what Betts did was equally if not more insane.

I 100% agree, but that doesn't make him more valuable. I wouldn't say Wong has more value than Duran. I don't see Teel every putting up 7 WAR seasons, I can see Anthony/Mayer/Campbell all having a season like that. Teel might have the lowest ceiling, but perhaps the highest floor of all 4.

Or they trade away Story and he has a career year and Mayer dislocates a hip.

Sometimes the next great prospect comes from left field (figuratively). If anyone knew Campbell would be Campbell he probably be drafted in the back of the top 10 last year. For all we know Will Turner is the next great prospect in a year from now.

I'm not sure Teel is knocking on that door, I just don't think he has the same ceiling as the top 3. It's funny that they called it the big 3, and now a big 4. I think Mayer/Anthony were always a tier above Teel, Mayer/Campbell/Anthony might be the real big 3. I like Teel a lot. Arias is good, but he's a ways away. I could just as easily see Bleis, or Perales recovering and gunning for the top spot by the end of next year; along with Montgomery who we have not even seen play a game yet.

We have all seen how good Whitlock can be when he's healthy. Kind of like Chris Sale from 2020-2023 for 4 years. Maybe he too will have a career year in 2025. Or we can trade him for an infielder
