In the end, the only stat that matters is wins and losses. That is the finished product. All the other stats are just what goes into building the product.

I think Dombrowski is an excellent CBO. One of the best ever. That is because of his record of successes. I don't know if Nola is better than Montgomery . I am simply saying that Montgomery has never won more than ten games. That is a fact. If he comes to Boston, let's hope he does better than that. The much ( and unfairly) maligned David Price was 75 games over .500 for his career. A winner.

Where do you live Bobby ? Bobby: We live in the cellar, but I think the upper floors are nice , so it's not too bad.

In baseball , one can always find examples to counter any argument. Pitching stats are no exception. But the whole object of the game is to win. Everyone knows that. Jordan Montgomery is a good pitcher. His ERA shows that. However, the fact is that he won 10 games last year. And that is his career best. Just a couple of examples : Pedro exceeded that 11 times. Schilling exceeded that 10 times. Even Aaron Nola exceeded that five times. I could go on and on. Do you think the Red Sox would pay big money to a pitcher and be happy if he went 10-11 ? To me, saying that wins and losses are overrated makes no sense since the whole idea is to win. Should the Sox sign Montgomery to a lucrative free agent contract, I sincerely hope he wins more than ten games. And I would hope that Breslow feels that way as well.

I seriously doubt that the minor league pitching is much, if any, of a factor in the selling price of an MLB franchise , especially one as highly valued as the Red Sox.

With the millions of stats out there these days, a good stat man can always find a couple to support almost any position. And they revel in it.

It looks like the Sox' entire season hinges on signing 31 year old lefthander, Jordan Montgomery , a good pitcher who has been in MLB for 7 years now. " Monty" is coming off his best season, where he won 10 games. ( He lost 11) That is his career high in wins. Of course, I do now realize that wins are overrated, although I would expect that a team paying big bucks would be hoping that the guy did win a lot of games. I look for the Sox to take the plunge and sign " Monty" within a week.

Still nothing happening with the remaining free agents. So, there is still a chance that the Sox get one, most likely Montgomery. In general , I think Boras and/or these players have overrated their desirability and value. While there is some talent there, they are not exactly future Hall of Famers either. Be patient. It should work itself out in the next few days.

Dalbec is younger than Refsnyder , has more home runs and a higher OPS. And a better chance to improve. As versatile , if not more than Rob. He is also taller and better suited for first base than Rob. Casas should play the vast majority of games at first. But if it is a choice for a bench role, I would take Dalbec over Ref.

Not saying he made it all up. But as I get older and older, I have become increasingly skeptical and cynical about almost everything. I don't think too many things are entirely on the level or that people always tell the truth. And my trust in Sox management is not very high right now.

Harm, The owners are getting increasingly wealthy. The players are getting increasingly wealthy. The fans are about the only ones who are not. And it all comes out of our pockets.

Duran and Turner were both regulars last year. How is Duran replacing Turner now ?

Politics still tries to raise it's ugly head . Hard to prevent. Folks just can't resist the urge to tell everyone how they feel. Once again, if you must argue politics, there are countless internet sites where you can let it all out. Please keep it out of here.

" Locking up" your young players is not always as easy as it sounds. If these players have enough confidence in themselves , they can see the money that lies ahead in arbitration and free agency. You are not going to be able to extend them with some mediocre or low ball offer.

Accentuate the positive , eliminate the negative is always a good plan. Being able to do it is another matter.

I have never heard of Sandlin , but Breslow must see something in him. Schreiber is not a big loss although he can be tough on right hand hitters. Looks like K.C. is trying to be a contender in the relatively weak A.L. Central. As for the Sox, who knows ?

Mayer probably needs to break the Mendoza line in AA before he gets put in the untouchable category.

Oakland, like many major cities, has a serious problem with poverty, crime, drug addiction , neglect and homelessness. In my opinion, this should be at or near the top of our national priorities. Sadly, it is not. Instead, we pretend that it is not a big and ever growing problem. But ignoring it or denying it exists does absolutely nothing to help matters. That is all I have on this subject. Not going to get into any political stuff. But we really should deal with reality in these things. Cities like Oakland need a lot of attention and help.

O'Neill is not a pitcher or a catcher, but he is already down in Ft.Myers and pumping iron.

Bench presses thousands of pounds. Just look at his daddy. Tyler O'Neill is the real deal. As clean as Sweet Caroline. Sox fans favorite Valentine. Whoo. "

Luetge pitched pretty well for the Yanks. But he is getting older and has probably seen his best days. Not a big deal anyway.
