  1. Looks like Eppler is the fall guy for a sneaky little maneuver that has been fairly common in MLB. A maneuver that some fans even recommend being used at times. Maybe he can use a variant of the excuse ; " But officer, they were all speeding, why pick on me?" That always works.
  2. You get the Rich Little trophy for your spot-on impression.
  3. Tommy Pham's productivity last year was very similar to Yoshida. For a lot less money.
  4. The randomness of baseball. When you think about it , just one of those three singles being playable changes so much for Schiraldi, Stanley, Buckner and McNamara . And even has an effect on the legacy of guys like Theo , Tito and others. Such is fate.
  5. Needing one more out, Schiraldi gave up three straight singles. That's baseball. With any luck, one of those would have been playable and history would have changed. And it also would have changed Stanley and Foulke's place in history.
  6. Red, always remember, it's a tough division. That is always a useful excuse when things go wrong.
  7. Just not on TalkSox.
  8. We are making lists of mostly guys who were on last year's team. And saying , this lineup looks pretty good. Well, it didn't look too good last year.
  9. I will always remember these three words from Joe Castiglione: " Stabbed by Foulke". And thus ended an 86 year curse. I have absolutely no regrets about the acquisition of Keith Foulke. I would buy him a beer anytime. And a whopper from Burger King.
  10. Folks, this is just an internet baseball forum. Don't take it all so seriously. It's not all that important.
  11. If part of the reason for trading Mookie Betts was to get rid of David Price ( while still paying half his salary) then they are even dumber and cheaper than I thought.
  12. David Price was a very good pitcher. A winner. He gets way too much criticism on here. 46-24 with Boston. 157-82 career. 66 % winning percentage . Only one losing season, 12-13. ( I know, I know. Here we go again. Wins don't matter ) His career ERA of 3.32 is better than a lot of more highly regarded hurlers. Deserves more respect than he gets.
  13. I see that Cal Ripken is the frontman for the new owners. I wonder if they had discussed making moves like this ?
  14. Well, the team with the most wins in the division is in first place. I wonder if anyone has ever matched up the imaginary wins in fwar against the team's actual wins in the standings ? Might be interesting. Anyway, I do think that you are the type of fan who likes to look beyond the actual results and delve deeper into things. And that's okay. You are good at it .
  15. Corporal Agarn needed a little more velocity on his heater. Funny show, though.
  16. You used to use those same numbers to argue in favor of retaining E-Rod. Looks like you have flip-flopped.
  17. You shouldn't assume anything. But it is something to think about. How much do you want to spend on a pitcher who doesn't win, if you can get one who does for less money ? You do the same thing with saves. Saying they are overrated, bad stat, etc. But a save actually represents a close game that goes into the win column. And that is the whole object of the game.
  18. Michael Wacha is 25-6 over the past two seasons. 88-54 lifetime. But as the more astute posters will tell you, wins and losses do not matter.
  19. I have just been authorized to post that this forum is open for all ideas and opinions . Preferably about baseball. Of course, there are restrictions as to the content. We all should know that much. " Trolling" is basically posting something to annoy and generate a response from another poster. This is something that nearly all of us are sometimes guilty of. It really is not a big deal unless you let it be. I am not in favor of banning anyone unless they cross the line of basic decency. If anyone, at any time, feels the need to put me unto " ignore" , feel free to do so. I can withstand the shame and disgrace of it all. Have a nice day.
  20. Red, They are ganging up on you. The Legion of Bloom now has added a manager and a valet. And I think the ref is in with them too.
  21. I'm going to read this as soon as I finish War and Peace.
  22. The Legion of Bloom lives on.
  23. And they have spring training to give guys practice at first base.
  24. Tristan Casas is 24 years old. Big, strong and healthy. He plays the least taxing and demanding position on the field. Exactly how many days off is he going to need ? Surely, someone on the roster is versatile enough to fill in on those few occasions. This should be the least of the Red Sox concerns.
