  1. The folks who compile all the analytic stats: How do they get their input? From watching the games? In person? On TV? On tape? Using their superior eye test? How?
  2. I do think that Breslow is going to do something that will make Sox Nation happier very soon. So far, we haven't heard much from him besides the earth shaking, groundbreaking statement that he likes pitchers with good velocity. As opposed to the GMs who prefer pitchers who lack good velocity, if any of those still exist.
  3. Do all of the advanced analytics and the ever growing number of metrics ever translate to wins on the field ? And why does a pitcher's fwar ( wins above a replacement player) matter so much, but his actual wins on the field are meaningless ? I have to admit that I do not have the answers .
  4. I kind of like BTV for the ultimate in nonsensical fantasy. Seriously, I am old school and that will not change. But if some of these dweebs can make a living by playing around with numbers on their i-pad, more power to them. I am content to watch a ballgame with my beer and hot dog while checking basic stats like wins and losses , ERA, batting average and rbis. Sorry if my critique of the misnamed MLB trade rumors site displeased you. But it would be nice if one of their rumors actually happened.
  5. MLB trade rumors should change their name to: " Signings and trades that have already been reported on "X". The rumors seldom actually come to pass. But they are quick to report what others have already posted.
  6. Congratulations to Jim Harbaugh and the Michigan Wolverines as the undefeated National Champs. Wins over Alabama, Ohio State and Washington. Well deserved. I do think that Georgia would have been a tougher opponent than Washington, but it takes nothing away from Michigan's great season.
  7. Cardinals hired Bloom as an " advisor".
  8. I am selling my old collection of Bosox beer mugs. Contact me if you are interested.
  9. It should be assumed that you want a productive outfield. Ideally, you want good hitters who can play defense.
  10. It does not make trading Duran a good idea. That is a terrible idea.
  11. I always ask myself: WWBTVD? What would BTV do? I wonder what BTV would say about trading O'Neill, Abreu and Rafaela for Judge, Soto and Verdugo. They would probably want the Yanks to throw in Dominguez to even it up. I think some folks here are just bored and going stir crazy. Drifting away from reality.
  12. Abreu is miles better than Verdugo? Rafaela is miles better than Judge? O'Neill is miles better than Soto? I don't know about that. I have hardly seen those Sox outfielders play. I have seen plenty of the Yankee outfielders. How do you figure ? Metrics? Scouting reports? It just sounds like false bravado to me. And as far as hitting, it is not even comparable. This place is getting ridiculous. Even the simplest, most obvious statements are disputed by the intelligentsia.
  13. Talking about all around outfield , not strictly defense. I would think you would want some offense from your outfielders if you are serious about winning .
  14. Rafaela, Abreu and O'Neill ? How does that match up with the better outfields in MLB ? How about the Yankees outfield ? I would say it doesn't match up too well .
  15. After just falling short in 2003, the Sox went on to win four championships in the next fifteen years. From the greatest comeback in 2004 to the dominance of 2018, it was quite a run. The value of the franchise grew by leaps and bounds . Fan interest was great and is only now starting to diminish. Despite this much success , over this length of time, ownership decided that it was not sustainable and decided to go in a different direction and basically change their system. So far, it has not worked out too well. If this continues, it will be interesting to see if it has any effect on the value of the franchise. So far, it hasn't seemed to hurt their possible selling price.
  16. A slow start to the off season is becoming more common. And fans do not have a ton of patience. I would expect things to heat up soon, although some of the more marginal guys could be left twisting in the wind for at least a while longer.
  17. At some point this post season , almost every Sox player has been applauded and wanted back for this coming season. Folks, this team has finished dead last for three out of the last four years. It is not all Barraclough's fault. Some of these guys are not very good . And some have somehow become a bit overrated.
  18. The unrest in Red Sox Nation has been growing the past few years. More and more fans are becoming disgruntled by the day. We all know that the Sox had a great team not all that long ago. That team was systematically dismantled until only Devers remains. For the most part, the replacements have not been of the same caliber. The perception, and probably the reality, is that it was done strictly to save the owner money. This despite the Sox franchise being one of the highest valued in the business. Not to mention the ever rising ticket and concession prices. It's fine to talk about building the farm and developing pitching, but a baseball season is long. It is a chunk of our lives . There are a few fans who are intrigued by the whole process and interested in using the Tampa Bay model to try and change the organization. But most fans would like to see a better effort at putting a high quality product on the field. Starting now.
  19. The fact remains, that with three wild cards, it doesn't take all that much to gain entry to the crapshoot playoffs. You don't have to have a great team to do it. There is still time to add pitching. And there are some good ones still out there , most notably Snell. Don't throw in the towel at this point.
  20. It seems that we have heard " wait til next year " for a few years now. How long can that work before people get tired of it ? Tomorrow never comes.
  21. So, a team with a glaring need for starting pitching trades their best starting pitcher, their only proven winner, for a so-so infield prospect and throws in 17 million dollars to sweeten the deal. No problem. It's all good.
  22. The Sox are where they are because they essentially got rid of every good , championship caliber player they had ( except Devers ) . For the most part, they replaced them with lesser talented players. The most obvious reason was MONEY. The hope now has to be that the young guys can come through in a big way and get this team back on track.
  23. It is Bizarro World when trading Chris Sale plus 17 million bucks for a little known prospect is considered a win. But who am I to doubt the expert geeks who go by the name BTV ?
  24. The point is; why would Mookie sign an extension for less than he could get in free agency ?
  25. People make the same wrong assumption with Mookie. " We should have signed him to an extension so he never reached free agency. " Yeah, right. Easy to say.
