  1. The big issue with Duran, fairly or unfairly, was not going after the ball when his play in centerfield was awful. That really hurt his reputation.
  2. This team needs Casas and a right handed DH that can fill in at 3B/1B. Hopefully Grissom can realize his full potential and maybe platoon with Hamilton.
  3. I am not sure I can get away from speed ball. Grissom has to be awful good to play over Hamilton as an examplr.
  4. If I'm a right handed slugger, I'd prefer playing in Cincy than Fenway. You can get line drive homers in Cincy, a double at Fenway.
  5. What would cost to get Alonso from the Mets? 11-20 ranked prospect? He can DH after Casas comes back. $8-$10M remaining on his contract?
  6. Our right handed bats really need to stay healthy.
  7. Not having to bat Cooper and Dalbec was step in the right direction.
  8. I think projection is very unrealistic. One game at a time.
  9. Sox now in the sildcard. 1/2 game ahead of Royals. Tanner Houck next up.
  10. Does Fitts have a third pitch? I see that he has been pitching well as a starter. Almost 4 walks per 9 but he doesn't give up homers, unlike Pivetta.
  11. KC Royals are 7-12 this month with another game vs Rangers today. Then it's 3 games vs Miami and they conclude by playing a 4 game series vs the Guardians. They sure look poised to be overtaken by the 6/30. We host 3 games vs Toronto and then following a day off it's the Padres for 3.
  12. According to Cot's, we're $18M under the cap. What I don't understand is when the front office says our budget is $220M? Is that cash or luxury tax payroll. If money was not an issue, we can trade Jansen, Martin and O'Neill (I'm not proposing it) and get more in return by taking on all their dollar amounts left on their respective contracts. That probably won't happen so I'm not so sure we'll get quality prospect (s) in return. If a trading partner doesn't take on say Jansen's remaining contract for the second half obviously they maybe enticed to giving us better prospects. We're buying prospects at this point, not just trading for them. Our tax payroll is $218M so $220M cap probably applies to the tax payroll.
  13. I think they made the right call on Duran, Rafaela and most recently Abreu. Cora is high on both Valdez and Hamilton. Hamilton has shown what speed can do. He can essentially be on second anytime he wants after a walk or a single. Speed kills. He can score from second base on a single to left, typically it takes us 3 singles to score with other players at Fenway. I love the athleticism of this team. Yoshida does not fit into our future. He has to go. Really a bad signing by the Sox. WE WASTE MORE MONEY THAN A DRUNKEN SAILOR ON A LEAVE. Just unfreakin' believable.
  14. Ref isn't playing because of a sore knee. Per Cora.
  15. Horrendous contract. Had he pitched well, he would have opted out. I doubt the brass thought we'd get into the playoffs so even assuming a good season from Giolito, it probably would have meant nothing significant in terms of playoffs chances. Maybe they were more optimistic than rest of us. It's a sucky contract from financial stand point. Just my opinion of course.
  16. I think Bloom nailed it with our lack of productivity from 2B for some time now. Probably the last time we got good production was when Pedey was healthy. CC Wong 5 yrs counting this year of team control, a keeper. We'll always need two catchers. 1B Casas 5 yrs 2B Valdez 6 years SS Hamilton 6 years 3B Devers 10 yrs LF Duran 5 yrs CF Rafaela 8 yrs RF Abreu 6 yrs DH O'Neill 1 yr We're really in good shape going forward with Story coming back (4 yrs + option), Grissom (6 yrs), Romy (5 yrs), Refsnyder (1 plus 1 option) and Reese (2 yrs). Our lineup starting 2025 should get better. Adding another year of experience to several of our young players, with minor leaguers moving up with another year of experience. Yankees will be forced to add Soto to their payroll going forward, He won't come cheaply.
  17. I want a new starting position player each year. First target is a 2B. Next is a SS. Then DH.
  18. I NEVER wanted Duran traded. I do want Yoshida gone. He has no place in the Sox organization. He gives us NOTHING.
  19. Yep. I was just trying to be funny.
  20. Do we throw Fitts and see if he sticks on the wall?
  21. I am happy with this team. It would be nice to add a Tanner Houck clone but where and how are you going to get him?
  22. Baseball is played over 162 game season. There's always going to be a blip, good or bad over a 3 game series
  23. Bloom trading away Vaz for Abreu and Valdez may have been his best move. Throw in the $30M for 3 year contract Vaz received the following year makes me thankful that we went away from him. That also hastened the arrival of C Wong
  24. I believe there is still a poster or two critical of Rafaela. Many of suggested to just let him bat 9th and to let him work on his propensity to swing at bad pitches. His defensive prowess and his speed on base path warrant playing time. Especially on a .500 ball club.
  25. SB does not benefit on'e OBP. Extra base hits impact slugging % and indirectly one's OPS. One stat used more than anything else is the OPS and SB less CS has no part in it. That was my point.
