  1. He has looked good. We need for Kelly to come in and do a decent job. I'm not sold on Tazawa and Koji needs more rest in between appearances. Ziegler may end up being the closer. We're two games up on Houston for the wildcard. Not time to panic.
  2. And this: Article from Providence Journal "These are nice moves that have allowed Dombrowski to cross off two of the three needs that populated his July shopping list. He declared his bullpen "pretty well set" after the addition of Ziegler — even accounting for the loss of Craig Kimbrel for three to six weeks due to a meniscus tear in his left knee. He prefers his handful of internal options for left field — which include the injured Chris Young and Blake Swihart along with Brock Holt and prospect Andrew Benintendi — over the external ones, shooting down the idea of improving the team's offense there via trade." It sure doesn't sound like a pipe dream for Benintendi to reach Fenway if everyone keeps getting hurt. "Reading between the lines, it would be a surprise if Dombrowski were willing to move Benintendi or Yoan Moncada — the team's top prospects and the closest ones to making a major-league impact. Dombrowski mentioned Saturday his long-standing willingness to skip Triple-A with his best prospects, and Benintendi seems like a consideration for left field as soon as this season." For those of you that think he needs AAA experience.....nope

  4. I wish Ecks would quit making fun of Rays. They maybe 3-22 now but 2 of those came vs the Sox. Great job by Porcello today. Kudos to both Xander and Pedey for clutch hits. Game tomorrow should be a laugher but man Price makes me nervous. It seems he has no margin for error.
  5. For the poster that thinks Shaw should not be platooned.....your words were "....no f...ing way". He went 0-3 today. He's now 15/74, .203. I like Shaw but don't you have to play the percentages, no? It's not like he's a Gold glove defender. Luckily, there are more right handed pitchers so he will get his at bats. And the fact that DD specifically mentioned his struggles against left handers should count for something. We gave up a decent AAA pitcher to help solve that problem. That says it all.
  6. Stay away from Teheran....he's overvalued.....we just need someone that can give us 6 innings...3 runs...ERA 4.50
  7. You've knocked off about $40M in payroll before having to pay new acquisitions.
  8. better start for Porcello....he gave up 4 runs in 1st last time out...IMPROVEMENT
  9. In light of Kimbrel injury, it's a great move that we got Ziegler. We can't keep all the prospects. Especially those in Class A.
  10. Moon, I count 26:cool:
  11. I'm more inclined to have the core group for the future altogether sooner rather than later....I'd like to see Benintendi and Moncada for 2017 season to go with the killer B's. Swihart and Shaw can joint the group if they are good enough and not traded. All we needed was for wimpsters Buchy and Kelly to be AVERAGE....it's on them......I will never forget the words by Clay.."I only gave up 3 earned runs" after being pulled for 6 runs.....
  12. And we'll need Kelly to contribute right off the bat when he returns in a week or so....... Have we had this much injury to our 40 man roster? Hell Brock Holt gets hurt checking to see which way the wind is blowing....
  13. Well I guess it's Kimbrel off the 25 man roster.......we really need Kelly to step up on his return.
  14. My team is on the field....
  15. I'm actually talking about the 25 man and not the 40 man. 13 pitchers now...9 position starters plus Hill, Bryce, Hanigan and Hernadez....26 no?
  16. Everyone here makes a great point why Benintendi should not be brought up. And you guys are right of course. The team is in a weird position. It's an imperfect team capable of getting into the plaoffs and doing some damage. If everyone was healthy you'd have have the super sub in Holt who'd be in the lineup everyday for someone in addition to LF duties. You also have Hill relieving Shaw at 3B. Maybe loading up with left handed bats with Holt, Swihart and Shaw at 1B, LF and 3B. Or Young, Hill and Ramirez against a lefty. I suppose everyone just needs to get healthy and position depth looks pretty good and won't need Benintendi anytime soon. Future looks pretty good.
  17. Don't we need to send someone down today? We have 26 players by my count. 27 if you bring up OF reinforcement.
  18. Not given up home runs is a big plus to me......especially in our division.
  19. Hey Moon, maybe we should have gone after him during offseason instead of Kimbrel. More I read about him, more I like. Who wants to face a submarine pitcher?
  20. You guys don't think it's dire yet? Holt is hurt and he's injury prone. Go with Bryce with no back up? You guys see a different team. We look awful thin to me even after the Hill acquisition. I guess we can put Shaw in LF.
  21. With possibility of Kimbrel and Tazawa not being available this is a great move. We can't have major bullpen issues to go with shaky starting pitching.
  22. We have nothing to lose. One poster mentioned using up one of his options. I just don't see that as a major problem. He's a high level player and if runs out up options then it simply means everyone was wrong about him. He was accomplished college player. He was born to hit. Another mentioned we'd lose out on precious team control year. But the price we'd pay for that is much less than prospects we may need to give up in order to strengthen the team this year for pennant run. It's just money and we can afford it oppose to paying 'high' with prospects. With everything I read about him he has the mental fortitude to withstand setbacks. If he falters, send him back down. He'll work his way back. People on board talk about doing everything possible in Ortiz' final year to get us into the playoffs. Bringing up Benintendi? As Bluto said in Animal House, it don't cost nothin'!
  23. Just hold your breath and hope no one gets hurt Sat/Sunday
  24. Big hit and insurance run by Hill....Bryce comes in for Holt and gets two hits.... JF wanted right handed infield bat and he got it...
  25. Rays can use Vazquez
