  1. And we'll need Kelly to contribute right off the bat when he returns in a week or so....... Have we had this much injury to our 40 man roster? Hell Brock Holt gets hurt checking to see which way the wind is blowing....
  2. Well I guess it's Kimbrel off the 25 man roster.......we really need Kelly to step up on his return.
  3. My team is on the field....
  4. I'm actually talking about the 25 man and not the 40 man. 13 pitchers now...9 position starters plus Hill, Bryce, Hanigan and Hernadez....26 no?
  5. Everyone here makes a great point why Benintendi should not be brought up. And you guys are right of course. The team is in a weird position. It's an imperfect team capable of getting into the plaoffs and doing some damage. If everyone was healthy you'd have have the super sub in Holt who'd be in the lineup everyday for someone in addition to LF duties. You also have Hill relieving Shaw at 3B. Maybe loading up with left handed bats with Holt, Swihart and Shaw at 1B, LF and 3B. Or Young, Hill and Ramirez against a lefty. I suppose everyone just needs to get healthy and position depth looks pretty good and won't need Benintendi anytime soon. Future looks pretty good.
  6. Don't we need to send someone down today? We have 26 players by my count. 27 if you bring up OF reinforcement.
  7. Not given up home runs is a big plus to me......especially in our division.
  8. Hey Moon, maybe we should have gone after him during offseason instead of Kimbrel. More I read about him, more I like. Who wants to face a submarine pitcher?
  9. You guys don't think it's dire yet? Holt is hurt and he's injury prone. Go with Bryce with no back up? You guys see a different team. We look awful thin to me even after the Hill acquisition. I guess we can put Shaw in LF.
  10. With possibility of Kimbrel and Tazawa not being available this is a great move. We can't have major bullpen issues to go with shaky starting pitching.
  11. We have nothing to lose. One poster mentioned using up one of his options. I just don't see that as a major problem. He's a high level player and if runs out up options then it simply means everyone was wrong about him. He was accomplished college player. He was born to hit. Another mentioned we'd lose out on precious team control year. But the price we'd pay for that is much less than prospects we may need to give up in order to strengthen the team this year for pennant run. It's just money and we can afford it oppose to paying 'high' with prospects. With everything I read about him he has the mental fortitude to withstand setbacks. If he falters, send him back down. He'll work his way back. People on board talk about doing everything possible in Ortiz' final year to get us into the playoffs. Bringing up Benintendi? As Bluto said in Animal House, it don't cost nothin'!
  12. Just hold your breath and hope no one gets hurt Sat/Sunday
  13. Big hit and insurance run by Hill....Bryce comes in for Holt and gets two hits.... JF wanted right handed infield bat and he got it...
  14. Rays can use Vazquez
  15. Mr. Hill...welcome to Fenway
  16. I will always have a soft spot for Beckett for beating the Yankees before becoming a Sox.
  17. HELL NO to the Atlanta deal...are you f***ing nuts?
  18. Big Apology.....song by Meatloaf....geez
  19. Will we see Hill tonight due to Shaw being not 100%? Surely he'll get the start tomorrow night vs lefty Moore. I'm anxious to watch him.
  20. Trade Pedroia. Fire Farrell. Put Buchholz on waivers...mvp Wasn't there a country song that said 'two out of three ain't bad'?
  21. At least now, we know it's all on DD.....just the way it should be....someone should be in charge.
  22. I guess that begs the question what's the long term implication for Shaw? Is he always going to require platooning? I do like him as a player.
  23. Per Boston Herald Prospects impress Carlos Febles, the former Kansas City Royal and current manager of Double-A Portland, is raving about the organization’s two best prospects: Andrew Benintendi and Yoan Moncada. Both players have been hot approaching Sunday’s MLB All-Star Futures Game — Benintendi will play for the United States, while Moncada will play for the World Team — and Febles said he thinks both have gotten comfortable since their promotions from Single-A Salem. Moncada extended his hitting streak to seven games last night with three hits, including his fourth home run. He raised his average to .317 with a .977 OPS. “The ball can jump off his bat well,” Febles said. “He’s a strong kid, has a good swing, just needs to be more consistent. “He looks good defensively. He has some stuff that needs to be cleaned up. So far he’s doing a solid job. He’s quick, athletic. He’s good on the bag. It’s no doubt he can be a heck of a second baseman.” Febles has given both prospects the green light to let them steal bases on their own. Moncada is 4-for-4, while Benintendi is 6-for-11. “That’s how you learn,” Febles said. “If you tell the guys what to do every time, if you tell them when to run here, (then) they get to Triple A, get a green light and they won’t know when to go.” I do think the two will be a September call up...
  24. Fix the #4/#5 rotation situation....would hate to give up on Michael Kopech.....100 mph pitchers don't come around every day.
  25. "Because Travis Shaw is hitting .211 with a .620 OPS and 21 strikeouts in 75 plate appearances against lefties, Hill will likely slot in as the third baseman against southpaws. Hill is hitting .283 with a .780 OPS and eight home runs overall. He has a .725 OPS against lefties. “Travis, recently he’s had good at-bats, but his numbers against left-handed pitching have not been that good this year,” Dombrowski said. “How (manager John Farrell) decides to (handle the workload), that’s of course up to him.”" Despite the contradicting chatter on this board, this is how DD views Shaw. And he counts more than any of us. Shaw has been anemic against left handed pitching. The game where Kimbrel blew up in the 9th comes to mind. We could have used Hill to pinch hit for Shaw with bases loaded (?) in late innings against a left hander.
