  1. There's no point in holding him back...he's a better defender than Bryce. He runs the bases better. Bryce is up there hacking away. Yes sometimes ball does find the bat. John Farrell reminds me of a basketball coach that yanks out a guy that just hit 3 straight 3 pointers.
  2. SEATTLE — Those looking for clarity from Drew Pomeranz on Thursday night were likely disappointed. In his fourth start for Red Sox, Pomeranz remains a bit of a mystery. A cursory glance at the box score from Boston's 3-2 win over Seattle Thursday tells you two runs on four hits over six innings — a line the Sox will take nine times out of 10. But if Pomeranz pitched better than his stats his last time out in Anaheim, he was on the other side of that on Thursday. Pomeranz had command issues from the get-go, as shown by the leadoff walk he issued to Guillermo Heredia in the first. He had problems locating his curveball early and his fastball later. Pomeranz walked six Mariners, albeit the last of them intentional. Three came in the fourth inning, which he managed to escape unscathed with a bases-loaded groundout from Leonys Martin. "He was erratic, obviously, with the number of walks issued," manager John Farrell said. "When he was in the strike zone, it was very good stuff. The one thing he didn't do, particularly to guys in the middle of the order, he didn't give in in certain counts." "I don't mind walking guys as long as I don't give up runs," said Pomeranz. "I was just missing a little bit. They were pretty patient on some of my curveballs." The one inning the Mariners got to him was the fifth. Shawn O'Malley pounced on a first-pitch changeup — the second and final change Pomeranz threw Thursday, and the one pitch he said he regretted — for a leadoff home run. Heredia followed with Seattle's second bunt single of the night, and he scored the tying run on Dae-ho Lee's two-out sinking line drive to right. Pomeranz was inefficient for most of the night, requiring at least 18 pitches in four of his six innings. In his four starts with the Sox, the lefty is averaging close to 18 pitches per inning and nearly four pitches per plate appearance. He did finish the evening strong, recording his first 1-2-3 inning of the game in the sixth. I supported the trade but he's been a disappointment....another freaking Clay Buchholtz. I don't mind walking guys as long as they don't score? Is he that stupid? At some point they will score. Does he really think he's so different from 6000 major league pitchers that's ever pitched? He's lucky to go 6 innings, wearing out our bullpen. Why are modern day pitchers such whimps?
  3. We need a legit power bat in the line up. We can't muddle through AL East without one.....We do need to attempt to replace Ortiz (yeah, yeah, no one can replace him). Get someone as close to.
  4. If Pablo is simply let go and someone picks him up for league minimum, does his salary count for Red Sox luxury tax?
  5. I agree....
  6. It remains to be seen if Benintendi was rushed. Management thought he's ready but this is the same bunch that thought Holt is a major league starting left fielder.
  7. Pomeranz just looks like a big dork....already 90+ pitches. What's the deal with him? I thought he was a control guy.... What is it about Boston? He's beginning to pitch like Dice K.....
  8. Worst 1 hitter I've seen...
  9. Great offensive team? I don't think so.....feeding off hot April.....pretty pedestrian looking to me... Best hitter is out of lineup....I'll take my chances with Benintendi over Bryce.... Why do we waste time on Bryce...eventually he won't be with the sox...its inevitable...
  10. Hanigan and Braycee.....Must See TV
  11. Just get rid of Hanigan....can Vasquez do any worse?
  12. You were probably in that group that wanted Benintendi to experience 500 plate appearances at AAA. This is the same Sox organization that went out and got has been SS and moved Xander to 3B which shattered his already bruised self confidence.
  13. He'll do whatever the hell the Sox tell him to do. Sox spent $60 M....if DH is a position of need , then that's what he'll do.
  14. Hey don't bring up facts to counter my silly posts....lol
  15. His best moments are when he beats us or the Yankees.....he forgets the big picture....
  16. My only issue at the time was that he was blocking someone from playing time......Sox always did this under Theo and Ben...looking for bargain and throwing away money....just go ask the Baltimore manager...Buck will tell you...he loves beating luxury tax teams.
  17. This season, Red Sox left fielders as a unit are 15th in the league with a .739 OPS, and haven’t been very good with the leather. Brock Holt has been trying to fill in for Chris Young’s .288 TAv, but neither his .259 mark or Bryce Brentz’s .257 TAv have come close to replicating that. It’s been a long, gradual slope downhill for that position. That’s where Benintendi comes in. The Red Sox probably didn’t want to bring him up this early, but with no clear options available to them and Chris Young still a ways off, it was worth a shot. He immediately gives the Red Sox an outfielder who can actually play the position. Holt’s value comes in playing multiple positions acceptably, not a single one well, and Brentz, well……let’s just say fielding isn’t his strong suit. Benintendi has much better chops than both of them in the field. Speaking of Holt, Benintendi’s call-up might have shown that the Red Sox have finally learned their lesson with Brock Holt in the second half. See, he’s usually pretty good for three months, give or take a couple weeks. Once the second half starts, he’s not so great: I endorse this article by Baseball Prospects; What's troubling is John Farrell fully endorsing Holt as the starting LF in April. Maybe he just didn't mention that it's only good until the All Star break.
  18. Benintendi looks to be a professional hitter.....Bryce Brentz? Come on.....Brock Holt?.. Maybe we should send hom down for couple of weeks to get him some more at bats. He will be fine....he even looks good striking out.
  19. can we bring up Moncada please..............
  20. Here's to Moncada playing 3B for Sox in 2017. As long as our pitching is a suspect, we can't afford a black hole in the line up. We have to hit 1-9. Swihart should play winter ball somewhere to work on his catching. Even if he's a trade bait, wouldn't it increase his value for other teams to see him behind the plate? Again, I don't think there's money to be spent on starting pitcher this winter. Money should go towards a power bat at DH. You can't have team full of doubles guys. Betts, Bradley and Xander are attractive in part because they can generate some power. Betts should be a 30 HR guy and both Xander and Bradley should hit 20 HR at some point. Throw in Encarnacion along with Moncada/Benintendi growing into their position, Sox becomes an offensive jauggernaut, with higher ceiling than this year's team.
  21. “It’s been going pretty good,” the Portland manager said. “He’s familiar with the position. He’s played there before. He told me he played mostly center field and third base in Cuba, so he’s very familiar with the position. So he’s working on little details about having a wide base and it’s fast, where if you’re playing second base you have the luxury of staying back on the baseball. At third base you’ve got to be a little more aggressive, and react because you don’t have much time. Stuff like that. The transition is going to be easier for him because he’s done it before. When the subject is broached, Moncada points to the fact he played third base for two years in Cuba, starting when he was 16 years old, and also spent time as a center fielder. “Right now, it’s like riding a bike,” he said of his time at third base. Hum....third base in not completely new to Moncada.....we act as though it's a brand new position for him.
  22. Bench 1 Bryce/Benintendi until Young returns..then Bryce is gone...no point in having Bryce/Young combo obviously in LF. 2 Shaw/A Hill...platoon at 3B 3 Holt...back up every position except for catching If Hanley goes down, then you have Shaw and Holt playing 1B/3B with the possibility of Moncada call up. Do we have a right handed batter in the minors that can play either 3B or 1B? I suppose Shaw can play full time 1B and Holt can relieve Aaron Hill at 3B against righties.
  23. With nearly $60 million remaining in is contract after this season, Sandoval may have the worst contract in baseball. Any trade of Sandoval would require that the Red Sox add a player of significant value to offset Sandoval's negative value. Only worse contract was Pablo's with $80 million remaining at the beginning of this year. dws
  24. If a righty comes in, I hope to see Benintendi come in for defensive purposes..
  25. Per Sox Prospects In calling up Andrew Benintendi after only 63 games in Double-A, the Red Sox clearly see him as an upgrade over what they have in left field right now, at least hitting from the left side. Red Sox left fielders have put up a .258/.324/.397 triple slash this year, so Benintendi doesn’t have to hit much to prove an upgrade over that. With his defense, he really doesn't have to hit much to help the ball club. It's an UPGRADE.
