  1. I believe the highest paid 'athlete' is a soccer player. They're not cheap. Heck, $30M is a chump change.
  2. I think the Mookie trade was bit more complicated than Devers'. Mookie was becoming a FA, Devers was not. After the great championship year in 2018, JH went ahead and spent more money for 2019. On paper, our starting rotation was rock solid. Unfortunately the group imploded. I think JH was jilted that year. He did not want to sign over 30 pitchers to a long term contract but he did it anyway. I really think that JH is looking for the Rays model with extra $100M in spending. Rightfully or wrongfully, I think that's where we're at......
  3. It's what we do with his $240M 'get' from the balance of his contract will be telling. Of course I'll be pissed if JH 'pockets' the money and go cheap on us again.
  4. Geez, this was nothing more than a salary dump. Not many teams can take on that contract. Right or wrong, organization did not want Devers around young players.
  5. Production matters to Bregman and Fenway Park affords him to succeed more than say in San Francisco. Houston and Boston fit him to a tee.
  6. We got here partly with the ill fated signings of Yoshida and Story on the heels of Betts/Xander departures. A cover your ass signings from my perspective. What I want from this organization is clear path to building a winning organization. I believe Bres was hired just to do that. We're going to build a team around Anthony, Mayer, Campbell, Rafaela, Abreu and now Narvarez along with superior pitching. All work in progress. We continue to add depth at starting pitching position. We also know the preference of Brez to have DH spot open for flexibility. I can already see getting more bats for Gonzalez, Refsnyder and Navarez when not playing out on the field. For me the real test is will we actively seek out 2nd ace to go along with Crochet while at the same time developing young starting talent, a la Dobbins and now Kyle Harrison. Having a strong starting rotation and bullpen in my opinion trumps over hitting before pitching/defense approach.
  7. "As things currently stand, it’s not an impressive turn. But given the youth of the players Boston received, it will be a few years until we know how the Red Sox truly made out in the deal." The deal was all about getting rid of Devers. Everything else is secondary. The organization is happy to get rid of $240M left on his contract and from THEIR perspective, a malcontent. They didn't want him around young players. If any of the trade pieces work out well, then it's cherry on the top.
  8. Just realized tons of deep thinkers on podcasts. NOT. Anyone thinks Hicks was in the deal to soften the cash exchange? Instead of paying $30M. Giants won't have to pay Hicks $12Mf for next three years? Not all about talent exchange.
  9. Bad role model for our young players. Also it sends clear message JH owns the team and no player is bigger than the organization.
  10. Wikipedia already has Tibbs as an American baseball player in Red Sox organization. Lol
  11. Shades of Tampa Bay Rays, with more money? I do think Duran is on the trading block. San Diego? Hell we can unload all of our star players to NL West. We'll only have to face one team in the World Series.
  12. I meant Bregman is not playing right now so yeah, when he gets back he'll take over for Devers. As an example, now that Devers is gone, Narvarez can DH like today, a day game after a night game. Maybe Yoshida comes into play. I think Devers boxed himself in when he refused to play any other position. I was really hoping he get traded to Pittsburgh or Detroit. But this trade didn't cost us any young talent.
  13. Few thoughts. Devers has set bad example for our young players. He sits by himself. Compare that to Bregman. Our rookies look up to Bregman, not Devers. San Francisco is well under cap space even without getting relief of Hicks' salaries. Hicks is NOT our main target. It's Harrison. He is under team control for five years, including this year. The high A OF prospect is going to take time to make his journey to the MLB, if he even makes it. This trade may allow more at bats for Refsnyder. A guy like Gonzalez and Toro can also get at bats. Bregman I think will easily cover for Devers bat. We want to see our young guys play, or at least stay up in the majors. My guess is when Anthony was promoted, it was with the thought that he's up in majors to stay. No way in hell he was going back down to AAA. I repeat, I like that the organization is really prioritizing pitching. You need good pitching staff to win the World Series. We'll scratch enough runs. We always do. We're just about #2 in every offensive category behind the Yankees. Pitching, pitching, pitching.
  14. I like the idea of this organization really zeroing in on pitching. It frees up to keep all of our young players at the major league level.
  15. I think it was Bres's preference not to have full time DH.
  16. We will move up 1 spot. Seattle vs Cleveland later . Both 1 game above .500. We will pass one of them.
  17. Needed a shut down inning. Thought about Chapman with lefties.
  18. Throw in another ace we look like a real contender with Bregman returning. I'd like to extend Chapman. A 2 year deal.
  19. Having a 2nd ace is the winning ticket to the World Series. We are fortunate the Cole got hurt.
