  1. Devers quietly having a very good 22 year old season.
  2. Are we carrying 12 or 13 pitchers? MLB site has 12, 7 relievers and 5 starters including Hector. That leaves us with 13 position players. Subtract 9 (including DH), that leaves us with 4 depth pieces. We have as backups Sandy, Pearce and Nunez. Who am I missing? What I'm getting at is what needs to happen to bring back Hernandez on the roster? I doubt we give up on Pearce and Nunez due to their contracts. But... Obviously I would be pissed if Chavis gets sent down.... If Pedey returns who goes? If Holt returns who goes?
  3. Boston Red Sox utility infielder Marco Hernandez went 4-for-5 with a homer in Triple-A Pawtucket’s 11-8 win over Scranton Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday. Hernandez hasn’t played in a major league game since May 3, 2017. He has undergone three shoulder procedures since then. He still needs to get more work in at Pawtucket but getting close to being a major league depth option. Here you go Moon. Don't give up on him yet.
  4. At some point, do we go to a six man rotation to save the arms?
  5. I'm just happy that we found a cheap full time alternative in Chavis irregardless of position. I think we have additional bullpen help in the minors masquerading as starters.
  6. And not to mention both Eovaldi and Price were not available for the Houston series. We look different in best of 5 or best of 7 series assuming all of our starting pitchers are healthy. We have chance to win every game going in. Not the case right now.
  7. Houston outfield trio looks impressive.
  8. I thought we had bunch of analytical nerds of this board. Numbers don't lie do they? Chavis wasn't ready. He's a terrible 2B. Looks to me like he's doing fine. Right up there with JDM. Good for Vaz. He's right up there with Beni and Moreland. But he's not worthy of catching great Porcello. Got it. Do we even play tonight? No doubt Porcello won't last 3 innings.
  9. Player Team W L ERA▲ G GS SV SVO IP H R ER HR BB SO AVG WHIP Walden, M BOS 5 0 1.46 15 0 0 0 24.2 12 6 4 2 5 30 .140 0.69 I realize he's no spring chicken at age 30. But Walden has reinvented himself with a new pitch this year and also changed from 2 to 4 seamer (or vice versa, can't remember). What divine intervention is Thornburg waiting on? Nothing seems to be working for him. Cora stated there was a bit of urgency for Thornburg to pitch well in Spring Training. Apparently he's always been a slow starter. Well he had another bad spring. Are we simply going to keep him because we have $1M+ committed? It's time we let him go. Everyday he's on the roster is a reminder of bad trade with Milwaukee. Give someone else a chance. Maybe there's a Chavis in the minors that will serve the pen. I see that Vaz is now up to.294 BA and .838 OPS......not too shabby.
  10. not true....chicks dig long ball...
  11. Paging Betts, Paging Mr. Betts.... When you have $300M chip on the table, you take it. Be smart. Someone is giving you bad financial advise. Stick an opt out clause. Take the money, son.
  12. I agree. Even if he comes back, he'll get hurt. Do you really want a player that needs 5 days off every other week?
  13. Do you honestly think he'll come right out and say that? It's more about Vaz anyway. Vaz clearly understands where he stands with Porcello. The entire board knows it.
  14. At some point, both the Yankees and Red Sox will be at full strength and we'll just see how the teams match up. Encouraging signs for Sox? 1 Chris Sale...he was hurt August/Sept, started out very poorly in April. If his last outing is his norm going foward, then watch out. 2 Devers...his bat has come alive and he's beginning to be patient at the plate. Yeah he needs to make routine plays better but if his offense stays consistent and if his power comes around, then watch out. 3 Chavis...it's way too early but he gave the team spark when it needed it. His horrendous defense at 2B is way overblown. He's making the routine plays and that's all we need. I love the idea of power bat at 2B. 4 Vazquez..sure Porcello thinks he sucks. His offensive numbers are climbing. I'd say f*** Porcello. At least you can hit better than your pitcher. 5 Moreland....yeah don't worry about little stuff like batting average...keep hitting deep bombs. No one will complain if you hit 40 homers. Striking out isn't all bad. You don't hit into double play and give the next guy a chance. 6 Bullpen...they make $8M as a group out of $243M total. By that standard, they're performing like Hall of Famers. Henry loves you. And I like Porcello. But I know what I'd be thinking if I'm Vaz. It's all good. 25 men out there. You can't all be best friends.
  15. I would love to see our manager use either Hernandez or Shawaryn and not retreads.
  16. I agree. I get frusted with pitchers that can't or won't (Dice K) throw strikes. With Dice K, I always thought it was an 'honor' for him to walk a batter on 3-2 count to face the next, LESSER, batter. But I digress. Kimbrel, Barnes and Hembree always struggled when they had trouble locating. I rather pitcher get hit hard then to walk them.
  17. Not sure what will happen with Betts extension. But i do hope when times come, we extend JD Martinez. Big issue is TV Revenue. If the revenue stagnates, I can't see Betts getting $350M. We build the team around our starters, Sale, Price, Eovaldi and E Rod. We build the team around JD Martinez, Xander, Beni, Devers and Chavis. Everyone else is hired gun.
  18. Current bullpen group is paid in aggregate slightly over $8M. I'd say they're doing damn good job. Kelly is making $25M over 3 years.
  19. Sox bullpen is just fine.
  20. It starts with guys like Betts. He's heating up a bit. When he gets hot, scoring runs become easier. Right now it's all hands on deck and that means a guy like JBJ should sit against lefties, especially if Chavis continues to hit. I like this team. Lots of moving parts, many ways to get guys into lineup. Think what will happen when Pedey comes back and he HITS.
  21. Team needs to move quickly on relievers. You have to ride the wave. They are disposable commodity. Cost is minimal. It's always knowing when to cut the ties. Thornburg is nearing it. More of them versus major league starters. They are easier to come by. Anyone here really think it was good idea to bring back Joe Kelly at $25M/3 yrs? Moreland, Pearce, Holt and Nunez, all on one year deals right now. That's managing the risk. I always rather overpay slightly for one year deals.
  22. When we come out of this slow start, while having found 'gems' in Chavis and Walden and expected return of Eovaldi at some point, then the team will be better for it come August/September. I always get excited for newbies. 6+ years of team control for Chavis!
  23. Michael Freakin' Chavis.....
  24. Mike Shawaryn, Boston Red Sox prospect with 2.72 ERA for PawSox, was considered for big league start last week http://www.masslive.com/redsox/2019/05/mike-shawaryn-boston-red-sox-prospect-with-272-era-for-pawsox-was-considered-for-big-league-start-last-week.html I would love to see him pitch.....
