  1. BOSTON — In Gerrit Cole’s biggest moment yet as a Yankee, he didn’t make it out of the third inning. The $324 million right-hander got shelled for two home runs and walked two batters in two-plus innings on Tuesday night against the Red Sox in the American League wild-card game at Fenway Park. I love New York Post.....real reporting right there....
  2. 7 more years @ $36M per year for Cole.....today he lasted 2 IP. Sucks to be Yankees.
  3. He used to be closer in 2019/18 I believe.
  4. It seems cruel to play 162 games then this.....Enormous amount of pressure on the Dodgers tomorrow night.
  5. I see every trade from perspective of Rays now......we piss away tons of money. Value, value, value......limit the downside...
  6. I liked the Eovaldi extension from perspective of Porcello had only one year remaining on his contract. If I'm GM, I don't want multiple player contracts expiring at the same time, especially those playing similar positions, starting pitching and outfielders come to mind. I'm not sure how much more discount we would have received had extension occurred later in the year for Chris Sale. At this point with Sale back, I don't think we should extend Eovaldi. Everyone is pretty replaceable. Not sure how many more wins we would have had with Betts vs Renfroe, as an example. Renfroe's payroll was 1/10th of Betts. I'm sure we got more than 10% of what Betts produced in 2021 from Renfroe.
  7. 10) Red Sox Major League ranks: 9th in ERA+ (111), 12th in K/BB (2.80), 15th in ERA (4.26), 23rd in WHIP (1.38) Bottom line: Boston was extremely careful and extremely patient with staff ace Chris Sale in his return from Tommy John surgery, and that approach has paid enormous dividends down the stretch. Sale has largely looked like his old self since his August return, though he was surprisingly ineffective in trying to shut down the Nationals on the final day of the season. He pairs with Nathan Eovaldi to form a terrific, playoff-tested tandem at the top of the rotation. but with effective rookie Tanner Houck moved to the bullpen to manage his innings, the rotation does have question marks from there. The bullpen is operating without set roles, as Matt Barnes and Adam Ottavino have both seen their effectiveness wane in the second half. Rubber meets the road moment. Our pitching staff is not stellar in this group. We finished 4th in runs scored and 3rd in OPS in AL. Offense is not a problem Pitching has to get better. We'll have Sale for the entire year. Eovaldi is back. Piveta is adequate 4/5 pitcher. Houck showed his value with 5 innings of perfect game last time out. Whitlock should be stretched out. Work must be done for bullpen.....Taylor, Darwinzon, Sawamura, Barnes, Brasier, Robles. Need major upgrade here.
  8. He got the win by giving up runs so offense can bail him out and the he got the win. This is why a win for a reliever is not very good indicator of how he pitched. Say you give a grand slam in a bottom of an inning to let the other team tie it. Then your offense scores runs at the top. You get the win.
  9. Price and JD money should allow Sox to extend Devers and sign a DH.
  10. Getting 2 solid players in Kike and Renfroe for $10M really helped.
  11. Our PR was bit skewed by non performing money. Price, Pedey and Sale added up to $55M. In a way our PR was not bloated. Just think what we could have done with $30M.
  12. I'm confident Whitlock will not give up combination of 3 walks/hits. Just worry about HR.
  13. 5-5 I hope no one jumped off the ledge at 2-5
  14. Not sure why we want to blame Cora. Ultimately it's players' game. Sale had chance to shut them down. He didn't.
  15. Just remember that we shouldn't make decision on Richards' net $8.5M club option on his last four outings. Instead lets make sure we look at what he did 20 innings prior to that.
  16. Sox needs to jump on the rookie pitcher. Throw up some runs early and it'll be over.
  17. “I love it here,” Robles told MassLive.com through mental skills coordinator Rey Fuentes who translated. “I’ve told them. I’ve made them aware that I really enjoy it. I want to stay here. I’d be the happiest player in the world if they told me, ‘Hey, stay here. We’ll give you a couple-year contract.’” Not everyone wants out of Boston. “Using him early in the game, late in games, throwing strikes, not walking people,” Cora said. “His stuff has played. He’s made some adjustments throughout the process mechanic-wise. Stuff-wise, he’s always been great with the Mets and LA. I think the way he’s throwing the ball now is kind of like the way he threw the ball in ‘19 with the Angels. So he’s been amazing.” Robles served as Angels closer during 2019. He recorded 23 saved and posted a 2.48 ERA in 72 ⅔ innings. I did not know this.
  18. Wise words moon. You're king of anti-small sample size. You would have lost credibility with me.
  19. Bloom was brilliant with Richards contract. He built in an escape hatch just in case it didn't work out. I don't give a f*** about his last three innings. I care about what he was signed to do for the Sox, to start. You talk about SMALL SAMPLE SIZE. Now you and your kind wants Bloom to spend $10M based on 20.2 IP.? What is wrong with you people. Do you think Bloom spent all these years in Rays organization to pick up a club option based on some f***ING 20.2 IP sample and not the entirety of his performance? Explain to me how Richards is worth $10M based on what he did in 2021. I anxiously wait.
  20. Can we just forget the notion of spending $10M for Richards? He failed period. U want to give unproven reliever that kind of $? R u that stupid?
  21. 51 pitches after 4 innings......looks like we're being patient at the plate. You know working the counts.
  22. After complaining about lack of patience at the plate yesterday, he sits Schwarber. You know the guy that worked a 9 pitch walk in addition to hitting a home run.
  23. 3, 2 were homers. It's all or nothing with these guys....
  24. Not sure if you can get Devers for $25M.....it's only two years away. If defense is what we're looking for then you trade Devers for young arms, one major league ready and another on the way.
