  1. Moon keeps saying we don't need two DH's. Well hell, Schwarber is playing 1B and LF.
  2. Getting rid of Marwin almost covers it....$4M vs $3M.....
  3. Not a big fan of generalization...What the f*** is 'boatload of money"? Chris Sale 2017 $12.0M 2018 $12.5M 2019 $15.0M David Price 2016 $30.0M 2017 $30.0M 2018 $30.0M 2019 $31.0M If David Price was paid a boatload of money, then Chris Sale was not. For Sale, Sox inherited team friendly contract from White Sox. One can argue the extension so far has not worked well for Red Sox but the original contract assumed was team friendly. Giving up Kopech and Moncarda are another issue.....since they were only making league minimum, not sure we were paying boatload of money to Chris Sale. White Sox may still come ahead on the deal. Get your numbers straight.
  4. $10.000M M Richards $07.500M Kike $07.125M Ottavino $05.000M Perez $03.100M Renfroe $03.000M Marwin $01.200M Sawamura $27M plus Santana....$35M if E Rod walks. I'd say Bloom can do alot with $40M. In theory, Sale, Whitlock, Houck can replace E Rod, Richards and Perez.....not saying that's how it'll go down.... With the arrival of Arroyo, our position players pretty much stays intact. IF JD opts out, there's replacement in Schwarber waiting. We'll save money there regardless of who the new DH is.
  5. $262M to be exact.
  6. Fair enough...I get it. If Henry lets me, my order would be 1 Scherzer (we have always agreed on enhancing SP by picking a #1 and sliding down the rest) With him, Scherzer, Eovaldi, Sale, Pivetta, Whitlock, Houck, Sealbold.....#6 and #7 can go to the pen. 2 Siemen (he would also provide hedge vs Xander leaving or otherwise give us one hell of offensive infield) 3 Schwarber (my interest in him dates back to his IU days)...BUT I HAVE A CAP ON HIM AT $15M, I wouldn't pay him penny more, and again a hedge when $22M JD leaves 4 Relievers are fickle, I just trust Bloom to get the arms necessary without 'big name' relief pitcher. We already 'spent the big-name bullpen budget' on Barnes extension.
  7. I agree with you but you keep moving the goal post..... I rather have Semien than Schwarber obviously. But Semien will cost lot more than Schwarber. You need to lay out a plan for tax limit (assume $210M), $20M+ tax limit and $40M+tax limit. I'm having hard time pinning you down. Also what I want and what I think I'll get from Sox are two completely different scenarios.
  8. You the one always saying we may go over the tax limit next year. And I'm agreeing with you. With that all I'm saying is Schwarber/JD contracts will only overlap for one year. I'm pretty sure you're enjoying watching Schwarber hitting alongside JD, Kike, Devers, Xander, Verdugo and Renfroe.
  9. Cody Belinger is making $16.1M this in his arb 2 year. He has two more years of arbitration. Mookie earned $20M in arb 2 year (2019) before being traded to LA. Cody's agent is Boras. Looks like he'll eclipse $20M for 2022.
  10. Just having little fun with my buddy Moon.....Rays young players are hoping for good couple of years to get moved to a team that can pay them a fair wage.
  11. Chris Freakin' Sale. extension years... Chris Freakin' Sale. the trade...
  12. This is when the Rays laugh at us. Fanbase calling $220M payroll CHEAP. You and I differ only on where to spend the money, not how much. I'd prefer Schwarber and bullpen, you want to spend on starting pitching.
  13. The Danny Santana decision also just blew my mind. I understand the logic. Kendall Gravement shuts down righties and isn’t great against lefties. Santana is a switch hitter, and Hunter Renfroe is a righty. But splits are not in a vacuum. We’re still talking about Danny Santana, who has quite literally been one of the worst major-league hitters for the better part of a decade. Even if you insist on pinch hitting a lefty, use Travis Shaw there instead of with two outs. If Santana is on the roster to run and play defense in a pinch, then sure. But if that spot is even being considered for offensive purposes, he shouldn’t be there. And even if he had a good at bat, it ended in a strikeout. Santana just cannot hit unless it’s a blow out. Full stop. Per Overthemonster....I couldn't agree more.
  14. Why not bring in E Rod with your logic? It's wise to win this game, everything else is minor.
  15. Is it wise to use Whitlock with 6 run lead?
  16. I think you're spot on....he's just not the same pitcher right now. He needs spring training. Not sure he'll ever be the pitcher he was...... So this is where Rays approach would have been better for Sox. Sale did his job when he came over from White Sox. We made the mistake of extending him early in his contract year. His trade was a success. Extension has been costly for the Sox. Never, never fall in love with a player.
  17. What I want and what I get is different. Shortly in couple of weeks or so, we'll know the fate of JD. We'll also know the fate of E Rod soon after the completion of World Series. If I'm a betting man, I would say Sox will pick up Vaz' team option. I want Schwarber because I like to watch him hit. I used to love to watch Joe Namath throw football. Quick release. Not a Jets fan but Namath fan. Sure we can pick up a DH for 2023, but it won't be Schwarber. I have a favorite player and I'm sure you do too. I would pick Schwarber over JD becasue I'm his fan. Do I think Sox will sign him if JD does not opt out? Nope.
  18. SP Sale, Eovaldi, Pivetta, Houck, Whitlock.....total cost $46M, should leave $$ for bullpen. Bullpen....Sawamura, Taylor, Darwinzon, Barnes, Brasier I'm pretty sure Bloom can fill up the pen. That's what the Rays and Bloom does best. Our position players are set....get Vaz back on club option, if JD bolts, sign Schwarber or another DH.... Did I miss anything?
  19. I just don't understand Moon's insistence that Bloom WILL HAVE TO SPEND HIGH DOLLARS on relief pitching. He picked up Sawamura and Robles on the cheap. There are dozens like them. If we want to extend Devers, as an example, you fill in SP with Houck and Whitlock, not take a $10M flyer on Richards. I just don't see what he's seeing.
  20. LONGLEY: Red Sox surge painful reminder of what could have been for Blue Jays https://torontosun.com/sports/baseball/toronto-blue-jays/longley-red-sox-surge-painful-reminder-of-what-could-have-been-for-blue-jays Great Read
  21. How many pitches do starters throw between their starts? Monday Start 90 pitches Tuesday off Wednesday off Thursday off Friday off Saturday Start 90 pitches I've never pitched, don't know anything about pitching. Why can't they throw 25 pitches (say 40-45 counting bullpen) between starts in a real game?
  22. Best thing about our quick turnaround is we did not mortgage our future to do it, both financially and players wise. I think we'll begin to see some of that young talent matriculate to big league club.
  23. John Henry says Boston Red Sox are ‘ahead of schedule,’ believes team can win World Series: ‘Let’s find out’ I wonder what he meant by 'ahead of schedule'. Does he mean we have younger players not yet ready to contribute in the majors? Does he mean we have young major leaguers that hasn't peaked? Does he mean we are adding more free agents in the future? If he knows he doesn't have the team he wants now, what is he waiting for to get there?
  24. I think others are Losing weight Eating vegetables Less red meat Excercise Quit smoking I think there are couple more things you can do...
