  1. Per MLB Traderumors J.D. Martinez Does Not Opt Out Of Contract With Red Sox J.D. Martinez has declined to exercise the opt-out provision in his contract and will therefore remain with the Red Sox for 2022, as reported by Jon Heyman of MLB Network. His original five-year deal with the club prior to the 2018 season contained three opt-outs: after the second, third and fourth years of the deal. Martinez has now declined to opt out for a third consecutive year and will play out the final season of the contract on a salary of $19.35MM Sorry if this has been posted already.......few media people were wrong....I still want Schwarber...
  2. No imagination....we'd get back close to the tax limit after 2022. You also think Houck and Whitlock should be destined to bullpen while giving a $8M a pitcher a $10M raise because team wins when he starts. Everyone knows team wins and losses are not good barometer of pitcher's effectiveness. He's just a good luck charm. If I recall, Porcello won with tons of run support when he pitched. Let's bring him back. Payroll for 2018 and 2019 are facts. Do you have inside information on how much Bloom can spend? I'd say history is good indicator of future. What the hell would you do with $100M? Obviously you're willing to pay a mediocre starting pitcher $18M after that stellar season when for less than $1M, Whitlock can pretty much pitch to similar stats.
  3. He sucks at $12M, just like JBJ sucks at $12M. Get over them.
  4. Sox did spend $239M (2018) and $243M (2019). Cot's has Sox at $35M under the current $210M cap (Vaz option not picked up). At $240M, we potential have $65M less $7.5M for Vaz or say $57M. If JD opts out, that will be close to $80M available. Trade Xander, sign Semien, Schwarber, Correa and a starting pitcher. Price, Eovaldi, Kike, Vaz money all come off after 2022 for combined total of $48M. Be bold, think big.
  5. Are the Sox fans that high maintenance wife? We think nothing of it to give a $10M raise to a pitcher at best had an average season at the same time complaining about our payroll being high. Isn't there a better use of that $18M? Just asking.
  6. You can't fire the owner. You're the GM. Can you tell me WHY 2023 will be better year to 'go for it' than 2022? It's a serious question. Give me some specifics. Don't be philosophical. Give me the details. Don't be an ass. Of course trading Xander is first of many moves I'd make.
  7. Why NOT go BIG? We bitch and moan about our Defense. Well that starts with our shortstop. This is our best chance to upgrade SS defense along with offense that can match Xander's. Pay a guy $30M....use Xander's $20M, Renfroe's expected $7M and look in the sofa for additional $3M. Plethora of shortstops in free agency this winter. Nothing like present. Better defense at shortstop, better defense in right field. Case closed. Move on from there. 8 f***ing games behind Tampa. Have we done anything to close the GAP? That will be my question every single day this winter.
  8. Why are you afraid to trade Xander, get rid of his $20M, pony up another $10M and get a shortstop that can hit and field? I would trade Renfroe while his trade value is at it's highest and rid of projected $7M salary. I would add Schwarber and play him in LF knowing JD will be gone soon. You can accomplish that by having Pivetta, Whitlock and Houck be #3-#5 starters. Then just worry about bullpen.
  9. You're fired...I asked what are you going to do to make up the 8 game differential. Double talk.
  10. If this was a public company, meeting of investors may go something like this. This is what I would ask if I'm a stockholder. We saw many positives this year on the heels of 2020. But the fact remains, we finished 8 games behind the Rays. 8 games. Getting a wildcard birth and advancing to the finals of ALC does not erase where we ended in the Division. Winning the Division should be the goal. By winning the toughest Division, we're confident in out ability to compete for World Series title. What are your plans to narrow the gap and win the Division? Don't ask for additional money. We're already one of high spenders. Your budget is $220M. Is it doable or do we need to hire a need management team? What do you say Moon?
  11. He was a fighter......never gave up....
  12. Under 30 and you can't live on $600K? I'm sure the fans will feel sorry for you.
  13. The uncertainty of the CBA would in my mind reduce the front office incentive to go after expensive FA's who then might not play a full season in 2022. If they don't play full season, I doubt players would be compensated for entire year. Now there may be negative impact which may lead to lower interest, lower revenue when the game returns if the players are locked out.
  14. How about going way radical, Moon. $20M Xander, trade $10M Richards $08M Ottavino $03M Marwin $06M Perez $08M E Rod $16M Pedey/Beni $07M Vaz, sign and trade $22M JD, trade $100M Sign $30M Semien.. $30M Correa... $17M Schwarber $23M Snydergarrd $100M C ????/ 1B Dalbec 2B Semien SS Correa 3B Devers LF Verdugo CF Kike RF Renfroe DH Schwarber SP, Sale, Eovaldi, Pivetta, Syndergaard, Whitlock
  15. Cot's has Sox being $35M under the cap BEFORE $7M for Vaz. If we pick up his option, we'll only have $28M to spend. Devers up to $10M+ and Renfroe up to $7M in arbitrations. Assuming we stay under the cap at 2021 level, not much money there.
  16. It's always a trade off......If it takes $30M to retain Xander, question is did we improve? Absolutely no. Maybe we're better team with say Downs and adding a $30M free agent ace.
  17. I wouldn't do either....18 years for 3 years.....
  18. yep....or maybe it's the manager.
  19. 100%....at the very least, it will take away 'favoritism' many players are shown. It's human nature to have a bias.
  20. Biggest Issues for Chime... Finding 2 Starting Pitchers 1 5 days after the World Series, we'll find out the status of E Rod 2 amount of money spent on a free agent starting pitcher will give us hint as to what roles Houck and/or Whitlock will play in 2022. Filling out the Bullpen This will probably be an on going task all the way through Spring Training JD/Schwarber situation Even if JD remains, it's a one year dilemma. Please don't bring back Santana/Gonzalez type players. Please. Having another 'starter' won't hurt the team. JD will turn 35 during 2022 season, Schwarber will be 29. Think about that.
  21. Jeter Downs’ Torrid Fall League Run Is Perfect Start For Red Sox In Pivotal Offseason NESN It’s a terribly small sample size, but Downs’ grand slam Monday night was his fifth home run in six games out in the desert. It doesn’t mean Downs is ready for the big leagues, of course, but it must be viewed as a positive given the relative struggles Downs faced in 2021. The 22-year-old, who entered the season as Baseball America’s No. 71 prospect, hit just .190 while playing in 99 games for Triple-A Worcester. He did showcase some pop, hitting 14 home runs with nine doubles, but obviously, expectations are much higher for the infielder acquired from the Los Angeles Dodgers as part of the Mookie Betts trade. However, any conversation about Downs’ 2021 showing in Worcester should be accompanied by the following caveat: He was 4 1/2 years younger than the average Triple-A player. It’s probably not a coincidence that he’s now raking in Arizona where the average age of his Scottsdale Scorpions is 22, and he’s just a half-year younger than the average age for the entire league. I'm pretty much opposed to trading away any of our prospects. Fans here casually make Groome as part of a trade package as an example. Just not sure why we're so eager to trade away 6 years of team control. He's just getting into his groove. We complained how DD emptied out our farm (which seems not entirely correct) yet we're eager to trade away potential 18 years for 3 years of control as some of the trades on here have been suggested.
  22. I'd take Betts over Kike. Kike plays deep. Betts was not afraid to go back on balls. Visually Betts looked to cover more grounds.
  23. Will they move the World Series games out of Atlanta?
  24. sure it didn't...probably fired for letting Vaz steal 2B all the time...
  25. Reds fans will always point out that they had the best overall record but did not quality because did not win either 'seasons'.
