In his last start against the Mariners Nathan Eovaldi gave up six runs on eight hits and two walks in only five innings: https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/SEA/SEA201903290.shtml Eovaldi surrendered home runs to Mallex Smith, Domingo Santana and Omar Narvaez, who have long since departed the Emerald City. The Red Sox nevertheless posted their only win in the four-game series at Seattle in March 2019.

Lefthander Yusei Kikuchi is probably the best starter the Red Sox will face in the Seattle series (the Sox will avoid Marco Gonzales and Justus Sheffield). The Red Sox remain favored to leapfrog over the Mariners tonight in the Wild Card standings.

That's how the Mariners have been winning this year ... it's probably not sustainable. If Seattle holds on, the Mariners will share the league's best record with the AL West rival Athletics.
