  1. FWIW after Wednesday's games the Seattle Mariners led all teams with 469 runners left on base while the Red Sox were 10th with 442: https://www.baseball-reference.com/leagues/majors/2022.shtml
  2. It happens. As a team the Red Sox stranded 13 runners today but in losing a three-game weekend series the Seattle Mariners outhit the Red Sox 24-18 while stranding 29 runners (and the Red Sox only 16).
  3. Yep. I sat in stunned silence Sunday in the top of the eighth inning.
  4. Rafael Devers hit an 0-and-2 pitch that was way out of the strike zone. Not a bad pitch by Paul Sewald but Devers is a great hitter. Sewald surrendered two late-inning go-ahead home runs in two games separated by less than 24 hours. Ouch.
  5. I am at the game, the 24th straight Red Sox game against an opponent with a current losing record. How is that possible?
  6. Ken Giles? A recent Over the Mountain podcast mentioned Giles, who is expected to come off Seattle's IL, as a potential Red Sox trade target. Seattle has designated for assignment reliever Drew Steckenrider, who has a 2.63 ERA and 16 saves since the start of the 2021 season.

  8. On to the series win on Sunday ... for one team.
  9. ... and the runners left on base (12 Friday night and nine so far Saturday evening).
  10. As did the error by J.P. Crawford.
  11. ... where Seattle native Bobby Dalbec said his favorite professional teams were the Seattle Mariners, Seattle Seahawks and Oklahoma City (Seattle Supersonic) Thunder: https://arizonawildcats.com/sports/baseball/roster/bobby-dalbec/2353
  12. The Red Sox have beaten the Seattle Mariners five times in a season for the first time since the 2013 World Series champions went 6-1 against the M's (who returned the favor the following year with a 5-1 record against the 71-91 Sox).
  13. There goes the streak of Seattle starters going at least five innings.
  14. Since the start of the 2021 season Bobby Dalbec has a negative 8 Defensive Runs Saves in 1,314 innings at first base while Ty France ranks second among all first basemen with a positive 8 DRS in 1,404.2 innings at first base: https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=1b&stats=fld&lg=all&qual=y&type=1&season=2022&month=0&season1=2021&ind=0&team=0&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0&startdate=2021-01-01&enddate=2022-12-31&sort=13,d
  15. The last time a Seattle starter failed to go five innings was 17 games ago on May 21 when Chris Flexen left after four-plus innings at Fenway Park.
  16. Dang. Garrett Whitlock was scheduled to start the Sunday game that I will attend with a friend who has Whitlock on his fantasy team. My pedestrian fantasy team has the Seattle starter in all three weekend games against the Red Sox.
  17. A series preview from a Seattle perspective: https://www.lookoutlanding.com/2022/6/10/23162958/series-preview-seattle-mariners-vs-boston-red-sox-june-2022
  18. The post was specific to the Anaheim series. The Red Sox and Angels each scored 10 runs in their four-game series for Pythagorean records of 2-2.
  19. Indeed the Red Sox have another series (and their 24th straight game) against a team with a losing record Since the humbling four-game Sox sweep at Fenway Park, the Mariners have gone 9-6, winning their last four series, including two series against the 36-21 Houston Astros. The Mariners entered the earlier series with a better record than the Red Sox while the Sox enter this weekend's series with a better record than the Mariners. If the M's had merely split the series at Fenway Park the Mariners would now have a better record than the surging Sox. And if the queen had .... This poster will attend Sunday's anticipated matchup of Garrett Whitlock and Robbie Ray.
  20. The Red Sox won three of four games in Anaheim despite scoring only one run in each of two victories. Each team was held to only 10 runs in the four-game series. Now having played 21 straight games against teams with current losing records, the Red Sox were fortunate.
  21. An Over the Monster podcast discusses potential Red Sox trade targets: https://www.overthemonster.com/2022/6/10/23162366/the-red-seat-podcast-early-trade-targets
  22. A trade would suggest that the Red Sox have given up "fixing" Matt Barnes after his 11 years in the Boston organization.
  23. FWIW Baseball Trade Values has Matt Barnes at median value of a negative $15.5 million and Wil Myers at a negative $8.2 million. The 27-27 Red Sox, whom FanGraphs gives a 44.6 percent chance of advancing to the postseason, might be more desperate than the 33-21 San Diego Padres, whom FanGraphs gives a 91.1 percent chance of advancing to the postseason.
