  1. The only reason to NOT give a player a QO is you fear he’ll accept it. This reasoning is acceptable to not give one to Robles or Travis Shaw. But the Sox are consistently an upper tier team in payroll; are they really a team worried about the financial impact of contributing players having one pricey season?
  2. Last year the Sox added 6 or 7. This year, I have no idea. I’m certainly not committing to a number. Beyond Downs and Winckowski, I am not real certain of anyone. I could even see Bello not getting protected…
  3. Crawford has a much lower ceiling. He might get taken, but that doesn’t make him worth a spot on the 40 man. Wasn’t he on the 40 man roster briefly last year?
  4. I’m far less confident that Kutter Crawford is added than you are.
  5. Technically I never said what it was; I just inferred from your statements it wasn’t all that great and did so in wager form. Basically I was feeling confident about it. I mean, turned off by instant replay rules? Come on! Now if you were turned off by their previous overtime rules, I could see that. Heck, I’d stand by it. Turned off by their inundation of erectile dysfunction commercials interwoven with Domino’s ads? Absolutely! That the league clearly thinks their fan base are all a bunch of pizza-slurping limp lizards should be a reason to change channels! But instant replay? If THAT is what pushed you over the edge, just how far away was that edge? With a league that has given us so many real reasons to watch PBS, I struggle to believe instant replay was the reason why…
  6. And Schwarber and Robles…
  7. The Sox might not add as many as we suspect.
  8. Whether or not the Sox trade a Baseball America to 30 prospect depends very, very little on whether or not they were able to claim career bench fodder Tim Locastro on waivers. The fantasy that Duran was to fill the 4th outfielder/pinch runner role is largely limited to Red Sox forums unaffiliated with the team. It’s basically a fan pipe dream. I assume by saying MLB’s fastest player, you were referring to Locastro and not Duran? Because apparently Locastro is the fastest player in MLB right now (tied with Trea Turner per StatCast)…
  9. My bellybutton is puckering and unpuckering in anticipation!!!
  10. He’s like a 1970s porn star…
  11. 2020, yes. But was staying below really the plan for 2021? And did it remain that way all season?
  12. Absolutely. The problem is he’s up against a team that not only cares about winning but also doesn’t appear to care whether or not they’re smart about it…
  13. Right here?
  14. I like him better than Stroman, but the two are definitely comparable. The biggest difference is we know Stroman won’t have a QO attached…
  15. An option that could still be on the table. Either he accepts the QO and has one season at a higher AAV or he rejects it and you continue to negotiate anyway or move on to someone else in this lackluster free agent group. But if the goal is to keep him at a lower AAV, and the fear is he’d accept a QO, that really is the “worst case scenario” under those conditions. And it’s not a bad case at all, especially if Henry allows for higher payroll…
  16. Technically the Sox already have 5 open slots due to pending free agents…
  17. It’s also not relevant. Just because no one stepped in to make you question your choice of eating chocolate-dipped radishes or no one prevented you from acting on your decision to flush a whole grapefruit doesn’t mean having technology aid officials is a bad thing. That you lost interest in the NFL - an interest I’d wager was never all that strong to begin with - is also irrelevant to this thread, unless we are allowed to connect it to robo umps…
  18. They already use a 3-D hologram box to show the path of the ball vs the three dimensional strike zone. It’s probably not accurate, since it’s primarily used solely for the TV audience. But I’m sure it could also be modified to call balls and strikes with increased accuracy. And the plate narrows down to a point so it fits within the foul lines and the entire plate is in fair territory…
  19. In fact on the subject of other sports, did you know in the Olympics, gymnasts can request reviews of their routine for accurate scoring? And the scorers can adjust the score in either direction after the review?
  20. So? Numerous sports use technology to make calls and handle limited officiating. Want to go back to using stopwatches to time sprinters? Do we need controversies where Runner A clearly won the race but Runner B had a faster time because the two officials were humans who were not in sync?
  21. Playing whiffleball growing up we found we really needed an ump, otherwise some kids just didn’t swing forever. Pitchers and hitters just never agreed. Then someone not named notin (only because that’s not his real name) came up with the idea of using a lawn chair as a strike zone. Get the ball into the “sitting area” of the lawn chair and it’s a strike - arguments gone, no questions. And no one had 55 pitch at bats. Solved every problem. So if you don’t see the benefit of technological strike/ball calls, can we agree on using lawn chairs?
  22. You did specifically write that police don’t get to use instant replay, irrelevant as that is. Really this is more of an argument for robo strike zones. If you don’t like do-overs, you should do everything possible to get it right the first time…
  23. Yes because the years are always a larger concern than the money with higher salaries…
  24. He might, and that’s the risk. But if that’s the worst case scenario, it’s certainly not a bad one. There are much worse worst case scenarios in which he is not offered a QO…
  25. If the court system was scheduled to wrap everything up by 3PM CST every Sunday, they would move faster. Really the argument that NFL refs shouldn’t get to use instant replay because cops don’t is completely silly. Go back to the slippery slope arguments
