  1. Agreed. The notion that “prospects mean nothing” ignores their usefulness beyond just being minor leaguers. How do you think we got Sale?
  2. And what did you think of Lowe and Varitek when we got them? Not like these were elite or ranked prospects…
  3. Yep. I complained the exact same way when we traded away Slocumb…
  4. Seven inning double headers are the work of Satan…
  5. His UTP…
  6. I don’t think very many players want 10 games in a week…
  7. What is this? Travel ball?
  8. 162 games with doubleheaders every Sunday!!
  9. My opinion of Arroyo might be better if he could maybe play baseball without maiming himself…
  10. Story = Paul DeJong plus $20mill.
  11. Also possible, although that hopefully doesn’t create an unpopular precedent. I hope Bloom doesn’t find it necessary to trade off every cheap flier who pays immediate dividends so hastily…
  12. Or maybe he believes Renfroe has peaked and is due to step back? But then Bloom has a very brief history filled with moves (trading for Pivetta, signing Hernandez, drafting Yorke) that seem questionable at first but end up paying off relatively quickly…
  13. So now you’re trying to argue defensive metrics based on single seasons? He also had a career best 2021 without Betts.
  14. Most end their careers when no one will hire them. Sometimes they can’t hit any more, but if they can’t play anywhere in the field, only 15 teams will even talk to them. Remember, Barry Bonds posted a 1.045 OPS in his last season (at age 42!!). And he was playing the outfield. Ever wonder what he (and that nuclear waste treatment plant coursing through his veins) could have done if he just focused on hitting?
  15. Kike’s data isn’t as consistent. Plus it’s possible playing next to Betts did hurt JBJ’s numbers a little…
  16. No point in anything but speculation until we (including Cora!) know who’s actually on the roster…
  17. 1. It will be a very chilly day in Hell before I care about Derek Jeter’s opinion on any subject. 2. He also probably doesn’t even have a say on this issue since he isn’t the majority owner of the Marlins. (Bruce Sherman is.). Jeter is just investor brought in to make it look like the team was interested in baseball for once. And to influence the GM to trade anyone good to the Yankees for a pile of dirt.)
  18. Agree on Bradley. Metrics tell a different story with Verdugo. But I think he’s got the ability (and arm!) to be a very good Fenway RF…
  19. Kolten Wong might disagree…
  20. Teams only get added when the owners lose a collusion lawsuit…
  21. Kike is the best defensive second baseman on the team. Let’s not forget that…
  22. If the Sox sign Seiya Suzuki, the picture gets clear, as Suzuki takes RF and Verdugo stays in LF full time. CF is still a bit open but I think we see the Bradley/Arroyo platoon with Kike going between second and CF. Also possible some Tommy Pham type signs on as a true CF platoon partner and the Sox just leave Kike at 2b. I doubt the Sox took on Bradley’s contract to bench him. And while Kike was a revelation in CF, I still think Bradley is the better of the two out there…
  23. I see you opted for the Duran/Arroyo platoon over my proposed Bradley/Arroyo platoon. Both are equally likely IMO. Of course if no additions are made, the Sox still have one open spot on the 40 man (two once Paxton is put on the 60 day IL), which opens a couple doors for platoon options. If they do want a RHH bat for the OF, the Sox are surprisingly short on RHH corner outfielders anywhere near MLB and the door might be open for a Johan Mieses. And possibly the newly acquired Robert Ramos…
  24. He won’t make MLB money in Japan, but he’ll still wind up being filthy rich by my standards…
  25. And several dozen players are without jobs. Corey Seager might not mind getting biweekly checks on his $32mill salary while he stays home and plays with the kid(s?). But Carlos Correa could wind up losing real money here…
