I think a lot of people just want him signed for whatever.
The problem is, with Boston now, he can ask for an exorbitant sum to re-sign because free agency is still there as a fallback. If/when he gets to free agency, offers of his exorbitant magnitude may or may not come.
The PR problem for Boston is in this strategy. If Bogaerts asks for 10 years /$300 mill and they let him test the market, his best offer might be 6/$150mill. He’ll sign that and many Sox fans will think “they let him walk over THAT?”
