Verdugo shouldn’t be a big question mark. With his barrel rates etc that mvp keeps posting, he is clearly making good contact. And he’ll benefit next year from the banning of the shift…,

So… much better to just bypass those productive years in the early 30s and go directly to age 38? Here’s the thing. I’m probably more opposed to long term deals than you, and certainly more opposed than most GMs. But even then, most would agree with you about not giving Judge 8-10 years. But it only takes one crazy GM to make the offer…

1. Trade Barnes for an overpaid 1b. Even one who is struggling offensively can help by knowing when to leave the bag for an errant throw. Franchy is not there yet. Wil Myers fit the bill perfectly as a trade candidate, but he went on the IL today. 2. Franklin German is the best candidate to help the Sox. 3. While maybe not at 1b, Cordero definitely needs to stay in the lineup. 4. Dalbec needs to go to Worcester and justify his place on the 40 man roster. He looks more like Will Middlebrooks every day, although probably not enough to fool Jenny Dell...

Ok, let’s say the Sox moved Duran back to 2b tonight. And it went seamlessly. He was a clear hypothetical natural who could just play the position, always knew where to be, made every possible play and maybe even one or two impossible ones. Just a clear cut natural 2b. Would that mean the Sox cut ties with Bogaerts?

So you’re saying Duran is more likely to play 2b than Downs? Also, BA for minor leaguers can be misleading depending on what the team is doing with them. I have no idea if the Sox are using any approach with Downs, but sometimes I believe teams will want a player to work on hitting breaking stuff, so he will be told not to swing at fastballs. If something like this is going on with Downs, his numbers can be moot…

He could probably be a passable OF in, say, Petco where LF is pretty expansive and speed is helpful across the board. Not to mention the dearth of actual outfielders in San Diego where the new philosophy appears to be “Just get lots and lots of shortstops and play them everywhere!!”

The irony is how the infield was re-arranged to accommodate Koss over Casas. (I’ve never heard Koss’ glove to be anything more than above average. He’s not a guy you move 3 sluggers to squeeze into the lineup.)

Duran’s glove is weak but he does add some excitement to the offense. But if you ask me, his most likely contribution will involve being traded for a catcher…

So the current RF are “losers” but Koss for SS? Koss will very likely never hit as well as Bradley. Your logic for playing Story and Koss at 2b/SS respectively is a big stretch…

Dude, it didn’t work out but it’s also not the San me as Sale’s contract. But when you look at Cano getting nearly 3 times as much ( and not for being 3 times the player), Pedroia gave the Sox a discount. Sale was injured when extended. That is looking more and more like a stupid move every day.,.
