  1. The Padres reportedly offered one of LHP Joey Lucchesi or RHP Cal Quantrill plus one of OF Josh Naylor or OF Manny Margot, but the Sox also had to take back Wil Myers’ entire contract…
  2. This is supported by history to some extent…
  3. He also inherited a $240mill payroll and a directive to get under the luxury tax threshold. That was the whole point in trading Betts. It’s not the he got a team full of bad players; he got a team full of talented but very expensive ones and couldn’t keep them all, and a farm with very limited MLB-ready talent to try to fill any gaps with minimum wage players…
  4. Were the pickings made any slimmer because of the Hill/Houck piggyback situation? ( Answer: Yes) Whoever made that decision did do damage to the bullpen and for multiple games, as it limited the best reliever to pitching every 5th day. Ang if it was Cora - something none of us know - then he doesn’t get a pass because of what he was given…
  5. I think the RHH OF Bloom was referring to was Suzuki. Just because a lot of folks on this board assumed it was to platoon with Bradley didn’t mean that was the case. Just like when some of us (myself included) thought Renfroe was brought in to platoon with Benintendi. So whose idea was Arroyo in RF?
  6. I was ok with Barnes once, but by the time the second or third extra inning appearance for Barnes was ready, literally any other pitcher in that bullpen was a better option. Even Sawamura and Danish have been more effective
  7. So you think that makes them better options than Houck? Or justifies their usage in June? Not to mention, whose idea was Arroyo in RF? Just play Bradley out there…
  8. Given his addictions to using Hansel Robles in save situations and Matt Barnes in extra innings (and Arroyo in RF), this point is debatable…
  9. There’s nothing wrong with them being backend starters. Every team needs one or two of those as it is…
  10. And Barnes…
  11. I don’t get the constant re-arranging of the same pitchers as a way to cover injuries and ineffectiveness instead of bringing up the occasional prospect. I get keeping Bello down. But Seabold and Winckowski and German are all 25 and 26 years old. Give them a legitimate shot that’s longer than being 27th man for 3 innings of a doubleheader…
  12. You do realize that the Sox are currently holding a WC slot, right?
  13. Wow he got bumped back up in value. Last I looked he was at 17.5, but back then his OPS was also .345. He must have started hitting, but I do think that should have been expected to some degree…
  14. On this staff, the only way to know your role is to get injured…
  15. The Sox really do need to give some of the farm players a shot rather than constantly re-arranging the roles of the pitching staff. It’s like they seem to think if the can arrange these 5 pitchers in just the right order, they will somehow become 7 pitchers. Let Houck close. Let Seabold or Winckowski start…
  16. I’m calling it now. Duran to SD for C Luis Campusano. Campusano - won the Sox reportedly wanted in the Betts talks a couple years back - is sort of in the same boat as Duran. Both have rankings in their past, success at all levels, and are buried behind vets neither team wants to move. Plus the Sox need a catcher and the Padres need OF help (and position players who aren’t shortstops). BTV has Campusano with a surplus value of $17.5 mill and Duran with $14.8 mill. So is not ridiculous by their standards. It makes so much sense it will clearly never happen…
  17. Well, if the Sox were selling, it would be. Right? I’m starting to think got a little to used to that Arizona sun and now can’t hit it any weather under 85 F…
  18. Verdugo is in apparently among the top quarter for all MLB hitters for numerous metrics, but he hasn’t been lucky. Technically, he’s been Shift-Bitten. This means next season - if he continues to make this type of contact - he should be much improved in the numbers we all look at…
  19. If the Sox don’t bring back Bogaerts, we already know who the starting shortstop will be…
  20. But a month ago, they assumed he could do back to back innings. And not just two. The handling of Houck from starter to piggyback pitcher to M-W-F closer has been a season-long source of confusion for me..
  21. Robles and Brasier have been two of the hardest hit pitchers in MLB this year and are best avoided in any key situation…
  22. Odd limit for a guy they viewed as a starter just a little over a month ago…
  23. So the Houck As Closer experiment is over after 1 successful inning? Not sure why Robles keeps getting more and more rope. Robles has been one of the worst relievers in MLB this year…
  24. If there’s nowhere for him to play, they’ll probably just trade Duran for a catcher…
  25. He was not being pursued for his bat…
