  1. I’ll be happy with one. If things go right, we do have Whitlock and German to help back there, too. And now Ort is on the 40 man
  2. Is it the Apocalypse!??!!?
  3. But with no August 31 waiver deals anymore, being pro-active isn’t the worst idea. Otherwise the season could be derailed by a couple of sore triceps on August 3rd…
  4. Somehow he will find a way to glorify the AL West…
  5. I think with the number of potential buyers thanks to the extra wild card, deals will be a lot simpler this deadline. If the Sox come away with just Trivino, that’s probably where it ends. They could use Montas, but if he’s healthy he will be in very high demand. And Bloom didn’t look remarkably willing to engage in bidding wars last deadline…
  6. Yes. In fact the 2005 NL East did one better. https://www.baseball-reference.com/leagues/NL/2005.shtml
  7. Trading Verdugo would be a very stupid move…
  8. Trivino will be the Yankee ghost. Duran for Boston…
  9. And Paxton…
  10. No doubt those were invented by a Sox fan watching Hansel Robles without access to a game thread…
  11. Exactly. And especially not if Diekman can’t find the strike zone again. Which is why I support game threads…
  12. I wouldn’t call them fun, but if unleashing one’s frustration on a message board as a catharsis prevents that person from, say, launching squirrels on a homemade trebuchet, I do support them…
  13. Oakland’s Lou Trivino is an overlooked candidate. His 6.94 ERA is off-putting but his 2.89 FIP gives hope and his .485 BABIPA is absolutely unsustainable…
  14. So? If Cleveland wins two more games, the Sox are suddenly 22-21 vs teams over .500, something they can accomplish without even playing. Would this mean the Sox got better? Similarly, a Mariners’ two game losing “streak” devastates the Sox record vs teams over .500. This stuff means very little, especially since most teams hover around .500 all year long…
  15. JDavis enjoys players getting injured…
  16. But hey, 3.26 ERA from the pitchers in the bullpen…
  17. Winckowski didn’t exactly dazzle in his debut either. And that was against Baltimore. But he has improved since. I suppose like Winckowski, maybe Bello had trouble adjusting to the different baseballs…
  18. The job of the lineup is to score runs. It doesn’t matter how they do it, just that they do it. The Sox are 4th in the AL in runs scored, 3 runs being the two teams tied for second. They’re scoring. And if this offense has currently been using the 3-4 hitters in a table setter role, that’s not a problem just yet…
  19. The whole “he isn’t getting paid to” commentary is silly. JD and Bogaerts are getting paid to play baseball, with JD specifically being paid to hit. Both are among the top in the AL in just about every hitting category, and they were not signed to contribute solely to one singular stat. When Bogaerts makes a good defensive play, should the follow up also be “Hey!! You’re not paid for defense!!”? The two do not have a ton of RBI, but they’re both also 2nd and 3rd on the team in runs scored. That IS an offensive contribution. And yes at some point JD will no longer be an effective hitter. But the Sox just need him for a few more months. Fangraphs does have his hat hit % lower than it was in 2020, but they also show it wasn’t much better last year and he had 99 RBI. And those last 3 years are far below his career 2019 and prior…
  20. Kike can play 1b/RF. Duran needs to stay in the lineup…
  21. Robles DFAd to put Bello on the active roster. I assume his 40 man roster spot will remain vacant for Sale…
  22. Which also puts them in the dual division set of the Central and the West. And he is right that the Astros are head and shoulders (and possibly torso) ahead of those other 9 teams…
  23. Josh Bell and either Michael Fulmer or Dave Robertson….
  24. You can pick on BTV, and even if the exact trades don’t happen, the majority of real trades in MLB do work in their model. It’s a pretty good guesstimator of actual player value…
