  1. Batting him ninth does…
  2. They could, but I doubt using Hill out of the pen was ever part of the plan, as he hasn’t thrown a pitch in relief since 2014. And maybe I’m wrong, but I always figured the plan for Hill was to last in the rotation until Paxton was ready…
  3. Which of his 8 IP was the one that impressed you most?
  4. Assuming everyone gets healthy, the Sox roytation becomes Sale-Eovaldi-Pivetta-Wacha-Hill!(and maybe eventually Paxton) That might leave a potential bullpen of Houck, Whitlock, Taylor, Diekman, Strahm, Davis, Schreiber, Brasier, and one of Barnes/Robles/Sawamura/Danish. The Sox could strength in further with an acquisition (Michael Fulmer?) or hminor league help (Frank German) or both…
  5. No. Baneulos has 8 IP this year and 85 over the past 8 seasons. Some injuries, yes, but even a healthy Banuelos is more likely to be a problem than a solution…
  6. The problem with negative test results is they only prove you didn’t have COVID, not that you don’t have COVID..
  7. It does look like Bloom did both given her signed Strahm, Diekman and Robles this off-season…
  8. “Trade Arroyo” might not meet the requirement for giving up something. Utility infielders don’t always make the best trade chips. Why would any team give up a useful player for Arroyo when Jonathan Villar can be had for a waiver claim? If the Sox are going to give up something, it’s most likely a minor leaguer. Not saying Bloom will operate this way, but it’s not exactly uncommon for GMs to deal from the pool they didn’t draft. I expect Groome, for example, to be on the table. (BTV likes a Groome/Josh Bell swap as realistic.) Last year, Bloom dealt fairly mediocre prospects Aldo Ramirez and oft-injured Alex Scherff for Schwarber and Robles. He did deal former first rounder-turned-UIF Chavis for Austin Davis, which is the best parallel for Arroyo. But Chavis still had pre-arb years left, more control, and was dealt to the same GM that drafted him. I don’t think Arroyo is going to fit into that same scenario, especially since he is leaving his minimum wage years this year and has done more to establish himself as an Injured List Regular than a starting major leaguer…
  9. Before the season back when the Sox thought Sale was healthy, the plan appeared to me to be Sale-Eovaldi-Pivetta-Wacha-Hill in the rotation and both Houck and Whitlock in the pen. If that was the plan 3 months ago, why wouldn’t it be now?
  10. They did win 2 out of 3 in Yankee Stadium. Should that be so disappointing?
  11. I would leave him in Cleveland…
  12. Stanton homered to break up Urquidy’s no hit bid. In between Stanton’s last two home runs, the Yankees had one hit in 18 innings…
  13. He seems to have forgotten all about his criticisms of Winckowski…
  14. Whitlock might also have an innings limit that necessitates a return to the bullpen at some point…
  15. Usually when fans try to run a player out the door, their eyes are on a younger minor leaguer with more potential. I hope fans aren’t so quick to dump Arroyo at the first sign of trouble because they want to pave the way for Ryan Fitzgerald. Arroyo is a major leaguer with several seasons of experience while Fitzgerald is older than Arroyo and yet to debut in MLB…
  16. I don’t get why anyone wants him traded or DFAd. He’s a utility infielder, a bench player. If your biggest weakness the guys on the bench, something is going right…
  17. Why is everyone’s favorite bargaining chip the journeyman utility infielder? A guy every team has passed on multiple times already? He’s the Sox infield depth right now. When trade time comes next month, players with Arroyo’s talent and skill set will not be hard to find. But prospects in the Sox system - possibly ones you prefer not go - will be the players in demand…
  18. And apparently it can’t be Crawford if Whitlock is still out. That leaves Seabold or Bello…
  19. There are probably 1,000 or so boards on the Internet to discuss this. Choose one. Take it there…
  20. Yep. Like they did in hockey. And that worked out as we have a Stanley Cup final between two historic Canadian franchises - the Colorado Avalanche and the Tampa Bay Lightning…
  21. Why would they? Their team is 100% vax…
  22. Of course the one thing everyone seems to be ignoring is that with all these unvaccinated players, this is a team that nearly saw a stellar bounce back season detailed last year by a COVID outbreak…
  23. “Ryan, how badly do you want to play Major League Baseball?” “Oh wow. It’s been my dream since I was a kid, maybe 5 or 6 years old. I’d give up my left eye just to suit up and how green the grass is from the dugout.” “Would you give a kidney to a stranger?” “Just for one at bat!” “Would you set your tongue on fire?” “Got my lighter ready!!” “So you’ll get a COVID vaccine?” “Hey let’s not put words in my mouth.” “But the tongue on fire thing is still a go?” “Put me in the lineup and I’ll burn it clean outta my head.”
  24. I’m confounded. 25 years ago, players were loading themselves up with needle shots because they thought without them, they couldn’t make the Majors. Now guys are passing on their lifelong dream due to travel vaccinations…
  25. THAT should keep us of the scoreboard…
