  1. Did you misread or i mistype? I essentially said it wouldn’t take much more to keep both. The real question is, should the Sox sign Bogaerts?
  2. I know I was reaching. Hell I thought Koss was a reach…
  3. They currently make $31.2mill combined. They’re probably worth $50-55mill AAV. So it’s not a great expenditure to lock up both…
  4. Max Ferguson. Came over in the Hosmer deal. 22yo in A ball. If he succeeds in AA, maybe he can make the jump…
  5. If Casas starts the year in WOO, the Sox will just use the perennially unexciting Hosmer. He serves the purpose of 1) being a serviceable 1b while 2) not costing the team any money. But I do find it hard to believe the Sox will hold both through the Rule 5 draft and let them take up two valuable roster spots
  6. It’s hard to get any sort of read on whether or not the Sox plan to keep Bogaerts, or how badly they’ll try. I assumed Story was “just in case”, but apparently there has been some concerns around MLB that he simply can’t play SS anymore, and since every article I found was over a year old, this certainly factored into the decision to sign him. But even if Story isn’t the SS, and Bogaerts doesn’t come back, then what. Go all in on another free agent like Correa? Trade for a SS who needs a good home like Segura? Internal options like Downs, Ferguson or Koss? Find some arb-eligible player out pricing himself on his current team? (Newman?)
  7. Maybe not, but it also wouldn’t make me completely forget last year, either…
  8. If the Yankees let him go, he will be a Met. Chances of that are between 99% and 101%…
  9. Honestly it makes them way too weird of a fan if they do labor over those things…
  10. By “most fans” I am referring to people not on this forum. People here are talking baseball in mid-January. While that’s normal here, it’s not normal. As for Bogaerts, I have no idea what he wants. But he does least have two World Series rings to show for playing in Boston, so it’s not like it’s been a stranger to him. But he’s very likely to simply go where the money is. He didn’t hire Scott Boras to find a winning team. The rumors are already swirling about the Cubs (with the Jed Hoyer connection) and the Phillies being the most likely landing spots. So we now know it won’t be either of them…
  11. No, most fans don’t care. But most fans don’t really acknowledge the finances, know or care about payroll or luxury taxes, and think the Red Sox print money and therefore should never have any sort of spending limit. But that isn’t make any of it true. I’d like Bogaerts back, but I believe of they pay him too much money, it makes it difficult to pay for other players. And while I want him back, I acknowledge the risks…
  12. So… did Seabold pitch his way off the 40 man roster with this performance?
  13. Don’t say that!! Old Red gets angry if you say anything good about this team!
  14. Not high enough for most fans…
  15. 22 years old and 41 PA and he hasn’t set the world on fire yet? Who says Sox fans are impatient?
  16. I’d put Dwight Evans and Bobby Grich in ahead of most of them…
  17. Judge is chasing the American League HR record. It’s not as impressive; but it is something…
  18. Atlanta has become Tampa North in that regard…
  19. Nelson Cruz got 1yr $16mill. Is JD worth the 38% increase?
  20. Given his last 3 years, probably a one year $10mill deal…
  21. Also on this board multiple times by Notin…
  22. Or you are not grasping MLB’s salary scale. $10mil doesn’t get to what it got you in 2005. Last year a one year $10mill contract got you Corey Knebel, a frequently injured closer with 3 saves and 38 IP total in the 3 previous seasons…
  23. So you’re saying that there’s a chance that Dombrowski really did sign Betts and then didn’t turn around and spend all the money earmarked for Betts on Bogaerts and Sale? Well that changes everything
  24. My point exactly. That it’s your opinion but you are afraid to just say that…
  25. My point is you started giving your opinion but saying it wasn’t yours, but everyone else’s…
