  1. I left them out with a mention, but they are (with BTV surplus values): Lopez 35.2 Rogers 40.2 Cabrera 9.1 Luzardo 22.1 Sanchez 8.8 Garrett 15.9
  2. One bat I hope the Sox can look into for DH/OF is Miami’s Garrett Cooper. The guy is a pure hitter…
  3. I don’t think the Sox have any plans to platoon Verdugo. And they shouldn’t…
  4. SS - While I like Bogaerts, I don’t think he’s coming back, and I also think that might be the right long term move. The Sox could try for a big name free agent like Correa, Cora’s fellow Puerto Rican countryman, and hope he is amenable to an eventual position change. They also might take on a lesser free agent like Jean Segura. Or trade for a contract another team wants to move, with the obvious candidates being Ha-Seong Kim of San Diego (his 2 years $15mill left isn’t that cumbersome, but the Padres have two $300 mill contracts plus just took on Juan Soto plus that team has shortstops playing nearly every position already so they really don’t need him), Paul DeJong (1 yr $9.2mill with 2 options, good fielder, bad hitter but does have good Fenway power), and Nick Ahmed (1yr $10.4mill, defensive wizard and Matt Barnes former college teammate, but far, far too injury-prone lately).
  5. Re-signing Wacha is a good idea. As for pitchers to trade for, I suspect the following will be available (besides the five from Miami): Blake Snell Aaron Civale John Means Jack Flaherty Brad Keller Brandon Woodruff Antonio Senzatela Dakota Hudson Probably a score of others..
  6. I don’t think the free agent market (which already lost Charlie Morton) is going to provide that without taking on some contract that will become the next Chris Sale deadweight much earlier than expected…
  7. If you asked 26 players whether or not clubhouse chemistry matters, you’d probably get over 20 different answers, and the only repeated one would be “what are you talking about?” (I suppose “who let you in here?” would also be very common.) Trying to simplify the dynamics of the clubhouse is pointless. The players are all humans and all react in their own way each stimulus. The whole notion of this idyllic Kumbaya Environment is very often some columnist that didn’t talk to players just extrapolating some minute situation into pretending it’s the entire atmosphere. I’m not even convinced you have 26 happy players on winning teams. Why? Because players are human…
  8. Pivetta threw 175 IP this year, which is a career high, with his previous being 164 IP back in 2018. Not uncommon for pitchers to wear down over a long season…
  9. Nimmo!!! And not Gallo!!
  10. Kike’s one year contract is the perfect stop for Rafaela…
  11. Hard disagree. Unless you think Eovaldi has another 2021 season left in him…
  12. 17Ks is fine if you also have 16 BBs
  13. No. Betts had already set his price at $420mill. https://www.audacy.com/weei/articles/column/dont-blame-chaim-bloom-for-this-mookie-betts-debacle
  14. No. Betts refused $300mill over 10 years. When DD realized he was not going to sign Betts, he used that money to extend Bogaerts and Sale. Bloom never negotiated with Betts. By the time Bloom was hired, the payroll was spray close to its max…
  15. He also got saves the first two days in August and then got hurt. He had no saves in July, but the Sox only had 4 saves that month…
  16. If he was healthy, he’d still be in the role.,.
  17. It’s pretty funny that you’re already calling Story a bad signing but you were defending the Sale contract earlier this season…
  18. Any closer you can get cout Wikkelman will take a back seat to Houck anyway…
  19. Coleman is nothing special. I think you’re working too hard to get the slightly better version of Darwinzon here. Now if you are talking about Staumont…
  20. Fair, but also worth noting that many of them were rather fungible. And still the entire farm only produced 7 players. That’s not a lot…
  21. We had a couple top 100 guys who wound up doing nothing, or less. Cecchini, for example, was ranked 1 place ahead (or behind?) of Betts in the only appearance for both on BAs list…
  22. And how many from this list would you have said the same thing about in 2012? https://www.minorleagueball.com/2011/12/13/2633672/boston-red-sox-top-20-prospects-for-2012
  23. If you have 5 untouchables, forget about getting anyone who is good and controllable. At this point, you’re looking for salary dumps…
  24. Are you saying he shouldn’t be available in the right deal? Maybe Romero will be the better long term solution at shortstop anyway…
  25. Why not Ceddane Rafaela? He has a lot going on that other trans will like, and his defensive versatility and skills do give him a very high floor. I keep seeing him forecast as a “utility player”, but he’s a top 100 talent that will interest any team. And he’s close to MLB and requires a 40 man roster spot in 3 months. I like the prospect, but you will never acquire any decent pitching via trade if you refuse to make any of your good prospects available. Even taking out the top 5 is probably too many. How many players with careers longer than 3 years do you think there really are in the Sox system (or any system) right now?
