  1. It’s hard to envision the Sox extending both. Devers is younger and the better hitter, but also will be much more expensive. Bogaerts plays the more premium position. But should be significantly cheaper. Both figure to sign until at least age 36. Devers probably becomes a 1b/DH in a few years. Bogaerts figures to move off SS in a couple years, possibly to 3b but it could be anywhere from 1b to LF. I imagine most people sign Devers, given the choice. But is that the right way to go?
  2. No. I don’t give anyone orders. It just felt like obvious advice…
  3. Well if you think it’s been hacked over too many times, why do you keep responding?
  4. I want Bogaerts back, but I struggle to think it’s going to happen. I just don’t see the Sox spending $80mill AAV on 3 infielders, even if the 4th one is min wage…
  5. I’d trade his (moon’s) dog…
  6. Moon is hoping to add starting pitching. In order to do so, one method is to trade Casas. Casas could at least bring back something good, unlike Hosmer. I do not like the idea of Hosmer at DH. Mostly because he isn’t much of a hitter…
  7. Complaints and critique are acceptable. But so are follow up questions to them…
  8. You’re kidding right? That’s actually tha Patient Reason to fire Bloom. If that’s not why, then people are demanding Bloom be fired for one injury-plagued .500-ish season that happened one year after going to the ALCS. Is that really your defense? You’d be better off saying it was the No titles in 3 years thing…
  9. There’s a thread titled “Fire Bloom”. Am I exaggerating that?
  10. While true, it creates a bit of an unknown space. I mean, there’s always the possibility Bloom was in on those players, but another team paid more or was just preferable, or the other team wanted too much in an trade. Like at one point early this year, you suggested Bloom should have acquired Sean Manaea. And that would have been a good fill-in for Sale that saved this team a lot of bullpen headaches. But Bloom didn’t acquire him, and the Padres got him relatively cheap. Did Bloom miss out? Or did he try but Oakland just wanted so much? When you think of the moves he didn’t make, you have to be open to the idea he was at least in on them…
  11. Then stay off the 2023 thread. You can’t make post after post after post about how awful this team is and how the GM should be fired for not winning a WS in his first three years, and then freak out whenever some suggests a trade, too.
  12. Catcher and infield and probably DH might all already be in the organization. Same with most if not all of the rotation and most if not all of the bullpen. Also the bench. Now the outfield is a different matter…
  13. I didn’t think the Sox would trade Benintendi either. I will probably keep trying to predict Bloom, but I doubt I’ll ever be right
  14. And I also just call them like you see them…
  15. They are there to support your over-simplifications and sweeping generalizations…
  16. I just don’t see the Sox adding a third first baseman. They’d have to unload Hosmer first…
  17. The ideal situation is to have a strong farm and spend money to fill the gaps and retain the stars. The worst thing a team can do is just try to fill everything by spending money when these not farm. Cherington had the rare successful spending spree in 2013 largely due to not signing anyone for more than 3 years…
  18. Hosmer is under contract for next season…
  19. 2018 doesn’t happen without the 2011 draft…
  20. Yes let’s find the negative in a 4 game sweep and 5 game winning streak!!
  21. Some of us predicted this years ago. But hey, a lot of people scoff at the whole notion of a cliff. Yet here we are. It turns out players DO get worse as they age, even if you pay them the same. It turns out having no one in AAA or AAA to fill those gaps or trade for someone who can actually is a problem. And yes, Bloom is at the wheel as the team goes over the cliff, but he’s not the one who put on the Sox on this path…
  22. True, he was no Jeff Montgomery…
  23. And yet he was the greatest Sox reliever of all time…
  24. I have no idea about Houck. Could be fine. Could be career-ending. As for Barnes, it would have to be a bad contract swap. Case by case IMO. (If forced to predict, I’d say he’s in Boston in 2023.)
  25. Bob Stanley!!!!!!!!!
