  1. Agreed. Unless they replaced him with an equally capable defensive CF. And certainly not Duran…
  2. And if after the 2009 season, someone had told you 28yo Jose Bautista - with his career .730 OPS and 59 career home runs in nearly 600 games and over 2,000 plate appearances - was going to nearly double his career home run total with 54 HRs in a single season, what would your reaction have been? At Duran’s age, it’s too soon to simply give up. Chances are very good he never improves, but then a lot of teams said the same thing about Bautista…
  3. That players such as Thad Ward and Darwinzon Hernandez, and maybe a few other were let go while he stayed out…
  4. I certainly don’t like: 2b: Arroyo and/or Valdez SS: Hernandez CF: Duran If they leave Kike in CF, I’d prefer 2b: Profar. D might be lacking but his OBP is needed at top this lineup. SS: Andrus? Iglesias? Mondesi? (KC prefers Witt at SS), DeJong? (St. Louis prefers anyone else at SS) Mateo? Amed Rosario? Wendle? Any other available shortstops? I’d even say I prefer Dalbec at SS if it keeps Duran from starting in CF, but then some unnamed poster will somehow interpret that to mean I think Dalbec should be the SS. Not naming names…
  5. Or … get a SS and leave Kike in CF. Trade Duran, either for a SS (Mondesi?) or a non-40 man player and go get DeJong…
  6. Devers, Verdugo and Turner.
  7. I’d also be more inclined to make Dalbec an outfielder. He has the tools to be successful - he’s surprisingly fast and has an absolute cannon for an arm. I’m inclined to say he’s more accurate with it than Verdugo, but we really haven’t seen that yet (although one might think his background as a Division I pitcher should allow for some accuracy). Duran should be dealt for a stopgap shortstop. Then sign Profar for 2b (and DFA Ort, finally)…
  8. Neither got hurt all week, as far as we know…
  9. And like I said about Bello - every starting pitcher is an injury risk. (OK maybe not Rick Porcello. But the rest are.)
  10. 335 PAs ago, he was the next best thing - just being held back for no reason. Now half a season’s worth of plate appearances later he should just get cut…
  11. That was a terrible thing to do to Danny Trejo!!
  12. Seabold might be traded, but the acquiring team needs a 40 man roster spot available. Not as likely in these 2 for 1 or 3 for 2 type deals…
  13. Duran could still contribute as a pinch runner, bench bat and possibly even occasional DH vs RHP. Justin Turner isn’t exactly David Ortiz. But his role should be 4th outfielder, 5th outfielder or trade bait…
  14. The offensive part of his game is a work in progress. Certainly plenty of hitters have taken longer and been older before finally reaching some success. The defensive part of his game looked hopeless. I don’t even mind the hallmark inside-the-park grand slam in which he looked truly awful. The Sox lost that game by over 10 runs. But the week before he misplaced a pop up in Oakland that allowed the eventual winning run to score. THAT was actually even worse…
  15. He certainly has some risk. TJ surgeries typically last for about 600 IP before a second surgery is required. Whitlock has only 150 IP since his surgery, so his risk might not be too high…
  16. Lugo with his move to 3b does help his future if he stays with Boston…
  17. Two from Andrus, Profar and Duvall. Plus sign a reliever just for fun.
  18. I like Andrus and Taylor as options. Profar also makes a ton of sense. And maybe even Adam Duvall, who has shown defensive skills and certainly has power…
  19. Defensively? Yes. Vs LHP? Yes. But Duran might have some offensive usefulness, especially with the rule changes…
  20. Ort and Hamilton made less sense than Ward, even with the current shortage of middle infielders…
  21. Still don’t get Ort’s survival. I’d have DFAd him over Darwinzon, Bazardo, Seabold, Hosmer, and Downs…
  22. He’ll be drafting players whose great-great grandparents haven’t even been born yet…
  23. Taylor is a terrific reliever when healthy…
  24. All starting pitchers are injury risks…
  25. In real life, tortoises live to be about 140 years old, which is very a win of sorts…
