  1. Nothing was worse than that Pole on the Hill in Houston. What were they thinking? “Hey let’s put a pole in the middle of the outfield for no reason except maybe to see if someone runs into it at top speed!” “Make it safer. Put it on a hill.” “Fine, party pooper. But can I at least still put the alligator pit at third base?”
  2. Which has its uses, but sometimes it’s flat out wrong. Outfield defense, for example, cannot be judged by watching games on TV. Unless the OF is really really bad. Like Duran bad…
  3. I’m not even saying it’s good. I got the impression out was out in the middle of nowhere. I’ve seen plenty of other stadiums right off the highway (but not Fenway, as I-90 is close but has no convenient exit), but I couldn’t tell why it was such a bad stadium. Is the traffic awful? Bad parking? If it’s either of these, is it worse than Wrigley? (Not possible.) I just do t know and as it was November, I couldn’t find out in a timely manner. I’m sure it’s something. mvp complains about it and he lives down there somewhere…
  4. I see it simply as BP and RF or LF. But Bloom is very unpredictable. He might wind up trading Verdugo or Pivetta and just messing with my head. Not like we saw the trades of Benintendi nor Renfroe coming…
  5. The Sox DFAd Cordero last year despite his having an option left. This process required he be exposed to waivers. https://bosoxinjection.com/2021/10/21/red-sox-designating-franchy-cordero-doesnt-spoil-andrew-benintendi-trade/
  6. Unless that one year is like this one with his .640 OPS in his last 160 PA…
  7. What is so horrible about that location? I was in St. Pete last November and didn’t see the problem. It’s right off the highway. What the big deal?
  8. If the Rays don’t care about winning, they certainly hide their apathy well. They’ve been to the World Series as many times as the Red Sox in the past 14 years…
  9. For the record, while Notin predicts Cander to leave, he/I very much want him back…
  10. ThT Bloom keeps DFAing says all you need to know about how he feels, too…
  11. Wow. The Mariners are poised to make the postseason for the first time since the Astros played in Enron Field, and the trash talk has already commenced…
  12. Depends on how much you drink…
  13. Sure they worry about big picture finances. But they all probably think they know more about making a competitive team. And they all probably take into account the long term picture with long term deals, unlike fans who often espouse the credo “worry about next year next year,” which, while it will never happen, is fine for fans to say….
  14. I’m willing to bet they have zero influence. I might be wrong, but I think most people capable of getting a job as MLB GM think they know more about building an MLB team than any fan. And in most cases, they’re probably right…
  15. The diehards are still watching and going. The fair weather types are behaving as always…
  16. In this case, wooden like in western movies. Not picket. I’m not miserable or anything…
  17. I’m calling ********. The Sox fan base put up with an 86 year drought and a ever-present cry of “wait till next year.” They’ve seen 3 last place finishes on 4 years. They’ve seen early postseason exits and late season collapses. Yet they always come back. I don’t think you give the fan base enough credit…
  18. Pham is depth at this stage of his career. I wouldn’t pick up the option, but I think the Sox might try to re-sign him for less…
  19. MLBTR listed Eovaldi as definitely getting one. I am on the fence…
  20. The Sox have a payroll I exces of $200mill. Right off the bat, that’sa big, big difference from the Ray’s Way. In fact, the entire purpose of the Ray’s Way is to never have a payroll like that…
  21. Atlanta usually signs them pre-arb years and hopes they don’t flop so much. Tampa used to do this alot, too, and often do it so early, that the contract was cheap enough to be flop-proof, such as with Matt Moore. Boston started this with Whitlock, but one reason they differ from Atltanta is Boston historically signs more free agents from outside to 5+ year deals, which fits leave less available to spend…
  22. Do we really all know how that went down? I doubt Bloom just took first offer. Getting a pitching prospect would have been great, which is why I still prefer the Graterol deal despite his persistent injuries. But it’s really hard to say Bloom pulled the trigger too quickly and LA - who didn’t need this deal nearly as much as the Sox did - would have absolutely upped the ante…
  23. The rotation probably mostly exists on paper. It’s easy (and to some degree, logical) on the forum to discount Sale and Paxton. But as they will (if/when Paxton’s option is picked up) combine for $40-ish mill in AAV. they won’t be ignored. With Pivetta likely back (although he could certainly be traded) and Bello making a strong push, the rotation could require a single pitcher at the MLB level. With Eovaldi likely getting a QO, and Wacha earning attention, the rotation for 2023 might already be in the organization. Of course, depth beyond Mata, Ward, and Crawford will become essential…
  24. Stack the pen…
  25. And there comes the “careful what you wish for.” The Dalbec/Cordero platoon has quietly combined for 19 HRs, placing 1b as the Sox second best power position. That can be read into multiple ways….
