Is it? I can think of maybe 10 or so players to have it in the past 15 years. I’m sure there are plenty I don’t know about, but even if you triple my known quantity, we’re talking about 2 players per year. I think it’s still pretty uncommon…

At the time, I thought it was a cheap deal that I was surprised he signed, given the deals being thrown around at older and worse pitchers like Price, Greinke, etc. And especially since Sale spent the bulk of his career as the most underpaid player in the sport thanks to that initial White Sox contract. Not sure if that ever bothered him or he wanted to rectify that reputation. I never made the “wait a few months” argument ever. That doesn’t even make sense. What the logic? “If he doesn’t get hurt by June 1, he NEVER EVER WILL!!” If anything, I’d be on board with the protective clauses like the Sox had in the deals for Lackey and JD Martinez…

That’s an interesting take on Sale I never considered. Of course it would have been nice if Sale knew about this. And the last three Sale injuries are obviously unrelated to the one at that deal. But my primary gripe at the time was - just don’t sign him…

There’s a big, big, big difference between extending a pitcher with an injured pitching elbow and signing an infielder with a flexor strain. Did the flexor strain even cost Story any games last season? He missed a lot of time with a wrist fracture from getting hit by a pitch, which is obviously completely unrelated…

In pitchers, maybe? For position players, I’d be surprised. Not many position players get TJ, or even the substitute. As for signing him in the first place, I simply never liked him as a fit. But as for his flexor strain, I don’t know much about it, but probably wouldn’t have been too concerned unless he was a pitcher.

Story had a flexor strain in his elbow. Normal treatment is rest and anti-inflammatory meds. If the average man on the street checked via WebMD, he would have seen they rarely require surgery. Of course, treatment for athletes is often a bit more aggressive than treatment for the average WebMD peruser, but that this came down to surgery appears to be new recent developments and not the flexor strain he had in 2021…

Another point worth remembering is Duran might only get half a season or so to make something happen because Ceddane Rafaela is right behind him. And while Rafaela’s offense poses just as many questions (if not more), we at least know he can bring the leather…

So if the Sox DFAd Duran and Dalbec over Hosmer, you would have liked that and not complained about dealing away any potential? If you don’t like that the Sox kept them over Bogaerts and Vazquez, take it to with the MLBPA and their demands for free agency…

Did he? Not good. His 147 innings in CF don’t give me confidence in putting him there, either. Shame. He and Yoshida atop the order would definitely increase my confidence in this offense…
