  1. I’m not going to say Duvall will be fine, but I don’t think he’s the defensive weak link on this team…
  2. Maybe. But it will garner more support if we acquire one of the shortstops I mentioned…
  3. So… DFA Duran now? They have their speedy CF who doesn’t need a 40 man roster spot…
  4. I can’t say whether or not it’s his only method of evaluating defense -or even if he uses it directly. All I can say for certain is that most of his targets excel at it…
  5. BA has a long history of considering Japanese free agents as prospects. They also put 31yo Kosuke Fukudome on their list at one point…
  6. I don’t think Elvis is on Bloom’s radar. Most of Bloom’s acquisitions or targets - McGuire, Stallings, Story, Duvall, Rojas, etc. - excel at Defensive Runs Scored. Andrus is dead last in that category among qualified shortstops over the last 3 years. More Bloom-esque targets per my theory include IKF, Mateo, Ha-Seoung Kim, DeJong or (if healthy) Adalberto Mondesi. Assuming he is still targeting shortstops…
  7. Kike to the infield appeared to already be a done deal. I would not go apartment hunting if I was Verdugo just yet; I haven’t heard whether or not this is a minor league deal. And even if it is a major league contract, Tapia isn’t much of a replacement for Verdugo…
  8. https://www.si.com/mlb/red-sox/news/red-sox-poach-sign-outfielder-away-from-division-rival-to-bolster-depth-scott7 Not really much of a defensive leap over Duran. And no word if it’s a minor or major league deal…
  9. The Sox signed Greg Allen a couple days ago as the backup CF/RF candidate…
  10. The only thing spending guarantees is a large payroll. Last year the Sox got next to nothing from their farm/minimum wage players, and had to rely on too many veterans, many of whom got hurt. Couple that with significant missed time from the two highest paid players on the team (Sale and Story) and the decline of the third highest paid player (Martinez), and you get an underperforming overpaid team. A bit similar to 2019, when we started seeing real money made by the Sox younger stars, coupled with veteran talent, and no contributing players left making minimum wage keeping payroll in check. That team had the highest payroll in all of MLB and still missed the playoffs…
  11. Making trades before July is difficult, mostly because very few if any teams are selling…
  12. Most of them are pretty fungible….
  13. Also, Alberto Almora…
  14. Hope so. But the timeline for that is debatable..
  15. Maybe. As of today, Kike is probably the SS. But then who is 2b? Utility players?
  16. Josh Harrison is on the radar https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2023/01/red-sox-interested-in-josh-harrison.html Greatly prefer Andrus…
  17. No, but “franchise shortstop” did. And what word do you prefer for a player you build around?
  18. Montero was the first top ten flop that leapt to mind. Corey Patterson was second, but felt too obscure for a Sox board…
  19. I’m not even saying you’re wrong in your prediction. My belief is A ball is too early to tell much of anything. I don’t even get excited about prospects until AA, let alone label them foundations…
  20. That he was wrong. I thought it was a simple enough overview…
  21. And you’d be wrong…
  22. It’s not just about base stealing. A larger first base helps Duran get on base. And at that point his first-to-third speed is useful. And teams like Pittsburgh and Oakland are always interested in minimum wage MLB players. Sure they might not pay as heavily as you want, but the interest is there…
  23. They should be better than the 78 win 2022 team. But whether or not it’s improved enough for October baseball rests largely on the durability of two fragile starting pitchers…
  24. 7th ranked prospect? That clinches it! He’s clearly the next Jesus Montero!! I would doubt he’s in Boston in 2023. But certainly 2024 is reasonable. Then comes the question of how good he is vs MLB pitching and how long it takes him to get there. I do think the glove will play no matter what..
  25. So therefore every move ever won’t pan out…
