  1. And before, too…
  2. Is Jansen a better option than the still-available Ken Giles or Zach Britton? Also Robertson has 157 career saves and a fair amount of experience closing in New York. I know the Mets have spent a lot, but Diaz himself was a long term commitment. In fact, most of their players were. They’ll be very much the same team in 2024, when everything returns to normal…
  3. ‘Twas https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z9yjcBRyNUo
  4. Can we at least lose a game before the fire sale starts? Also the Mets have experienced closers Dave Robertson and Adam Ottavino already on the roster…
  5. Good luck. This place has been going downhill since the Mesozoic Era…
  6. I think he is trying to say that Pivetta is the equivalent of the rodeo-star-turned-actor known for his roles in Dr. Strangelove and Blazing Saddles…
  7. What s difference does it make what team he accomplished it on? Opening day starter doesn’t go to the longest tenured member of team. When the Sox acquired Pedro Martinez, I am pretty sure nobody said “We’re giving the opening day nod to Tim Wakefield, because he’s been here longer. Plus you won that Cy Young award with Montreal. Not sure that even counts.” All I’m saying is Kluber at least has an impressive pitching resume. He does. His Cy Young awards still count even though he won them in Cleveland.
  8. I can hear the argument for fWAR. But World Series rings? Jake Odorizzi has more WS rings than Kluber (and as many as Sale). Would you make him opening day starter?
  9. Entirely possible Dalbec goes to Worcester and continues his SS/2b/OF play into the regular season. Not like Goodrum has laid an unchallenged claim to the AAA SS role…
  10. Wouldn’t two time Cy Young winner Kluber - who didn’t miss last year - have equal claim or better to the opening day starter role? I could see Sale having a beef if he was behind Crawford or Whitlock or Pivetta. But Kluber does have one helluva resume of his own…
  11. Trend these days? Yeah it’s this brand new thing that just sprang up around 1900 or so. Probably won’t catch on…
  12. I’d have concerns if Dalbec was a proposed solution for Story’s injury, but that’s hardly the case. Last year, there was a mini-panic on this board when we learned Dalbec had been working out at 2b and in the OF. And we didn’t even learn about that until August!! At which time Dalbec had accrued 0 innings at either position…
  13. I’d all but given up on Groome, but it probably won’t take much for him to outproduce Rosier and Ferguson…
  14. The big differed Refsnyder is on the 40 man and Tapia isn’t. Not sure if Tapia’s contract stipulates his release if he isn’t added…
  15. I don’t think it’s similar to Arroyo at all. One guy was part of a platoon, the other guy is 6 people deep on the depth chart. Don’t you think other teams experiment with the positions of bench players in ST? And always have?
  16. Dalbec has done regular season emergency duty at shortstop before. He may have to do it again. If Story, Mondesi, Kike, Arroyo and Chang are out, I’ll take Dalbec over Refsnyder or Wong at SS for a few innings…
  17. If it goes wrong, best go wrong in March. Besides, even if he plays SS, he’s likely far enough down the depth chart that any experience is a plus…
  18. They want him to be more versatile since he’s not likely to start. Spring Training is preferable to work this out. Why do people think this is such a horrible move? He looked Ok at short in limited action last year..
  19. Mills isn’t hurt. That bolsters his chances immensely…
  20. The only one that causes me worry is Mills, since he might very well be on the opening day roster…
  21. One game. 4 IP. Bad days happen for prospects…
  22. The Bartman thing was a city-wide embarrassment starting with the Chicago Sun Times actually publishing his name, home address and work address the day after the massively overblown incident. But until 2016, rooting against the Cubs felt like rooting against David when he took on Goliath…
  23. You root against the Cubs!?!?!??
  24. I always want to see the Mets lose. Unless they’re playing the Yankees…
  25. Before you go too deep into how little you care about Sale’s contract, bear in mind you did bring up about the contracts of game-changing athletes being worth it long term. I just hope Sale lasts all year. I’ve stated many times 2023 rests largely on Sale…
