  1. Yes but they can go down, which of why o say they tend towards being cumulative…
  2. On the bright side, the baserunning f*** up by Verdugo just became irrelevant since Kluber will give up the next 6 runs…
  3. Game got close again and Cora hates that…
  4. Then that one is on Verdugo. And we can safely assume it will be important…
  5. Actually the runner should run through when in doubt. Sliding slows you down and that could be the difference. But yes, Devers needs to let him know…
  6. To be fair to Verdugo, it’s the job of the on-deck hitter to signal if he needs to slide. I didn’t see, but did Devers signal for him to get down?
  7. Are you comforted if I tell you that it’s really just a moderately supported theory?
  8. Most of that was a disastrous April. May and June have been a substantial improvement. Taking Kluber out of the rotation was a big reason…
  9. Cora will go before Bloom. For all we know, Bloom is doing what Henry wants. Cora isn’t doing anything anyone wants…
  10. Pitching has been good lately, with last inning being a rare exception. And imagine how good it might be with even a league average defense. The offense has been flat out anemic…
  11. Sox haven’t scored more than 3 runs in a game since last Tuesday, when the absolutely piled it on for 5 runs against Cleveland…
  12. The Sox pitching isn’t the problem…
  13. Ok so… game over?
  14. The problem is, however, that the current stretch is ten games and counting…
  15. For some context, DWAR is set against a league average. The base is rooted in UZR or DRS (depending on the source), and both of these numbers trend towards being cumulative. Long story short, limited playing time can negatively impact a players dWAR, which does make sense. No one adds defensive help from the bench. For the Sox, this does mean part time players like Arroyo and Valdez would and should struggle to have positive defensive WAR contributions just due to playing time and regardless of fielding ability…
  16. Plus they are all but ensuring the World Series goes into November…
  17. So 10% more often than when a team squeaks in and wins it all
  18. Sox are 5 games over .500 when Kike is not the SS…
  19. The Sox committed 2 errors on run scoring plays, including the eventual game winner. On the other side, the only reason the game went to the tenth was that spectacular home-run-robbing grab by Nolan Jones in the 8th. The Sox got out-gloved…
  20. You sure they have bats?
  21. How often in the last 20 years has the best record win the WSC?
  22. They could be competitive with slight tweaks to the lineup, never mind the roster…
  23. And we can call him Pablo Reyes, the replacementiest replacement player of all time…
  24. Using DRS as a metric, Texas has the second best defense in MLB and San Diego is top ten as well. If you put Eovaldi and/or Wacha on the mound with the 29th ranked defense (that leads MLB in errors) behind them, do people still think these guys put up Pitcher of the Month caliber numbers? The Sox rotation has been nothing short of miraculous of late, given that they’re supported by the stopgap middle infield clusterf*** trying to record outs with varying levels of success. The defense and the offense are the incredibly obvious shortcomings right now…
  25. I posted a week or two back about how the starter ERA was dropping, as was the team OPS. It was met with “yeah but Kluber!! Wacha!!”
