  1. His hefty option all but assures an opt out. He had a good enough season that he will draw interest; that is definite as well. And he needs to only get an offer of $6.8mill to exceed his total if he opts back in. Given that we live in a world that pays Leury Garcia $5.5mill, a bet of Turner exceeding $6.8mill is roughly equal to betting the sun will rise tomorrow. As for what Turner wants - a shot at another ring? A starting role? As much cash as possible? - none of us know. But he will very likely have choices that offer some combination of those options. But he is opting out. This is not up in the air…
  2. You think he isn’t a candidate? Obviously the Sox aren’t going to DFA everyone but Hamilton hasn’t established himself as much more than a weak bat utility option. He could still have an MLB career, possibly in Boston. But he is also on the list of players who might not fit into the new CBO’s plans and might be deemed expendable…
  3. Baseball doesn’t ban cheaters for life. Just gamblers. Gaylord Perry cheated, too, and he was not only not banned, he was enshrined…
  4. I doubt Rodriguez’ option gets picked up. He will join a few others (Paxton, Turner, and likely Duvall) on the free agent market. They are all trade candidates. One can only assume (hope) the corner OF/DH logjam gets addressed. But yes Hamilton is another DFA candidate. I think Brandon Walter is safe. He and Murphy have options, which increases their usefulness to the Sox going forward…
  5. Patently untrue. “Once a cheater, always suspected as a cheater”is more true. You cannot tell me no one ever has cheated only once. And in Cora’s case, it was clearly a group effort. When he was without his old group, things could certainly be different…
  6. A lot depends on the new boss and the new budget, but this team could DFA any or all of Jacques, Garza, Weiss, Dalbec, Gillaspie, Llovera, Ort, Mills and Mata and possibly non-tender Urias, McGuire and Schreiber. I do doubt they all go but they will have plenty of room too as to the roster…
  7. Probably worth noting that a starting lineup with Duran, Verdugo, Duvall, Turner and Yoshida isn’t going to be good defensively. Mostly because that’s having 5 players into 4 OF/DH at the expense of a shortstop. Next year’s Sox could be very improved defensively in CF and at SS…
  8. … and Eric Wedge a Hall of Famer…
  9. Per MLBTR, the Padres might have to deal Juan Soto to cut payroll. I know the thought is often “But every team in the league will make better offers.” Will they? I think we all know from experience that one year of an expensive superstar doesn’t necessarily garner all that many offers…
  10. Oh goody. Original sin, confession and penance in one post. Whats next? Do we crucify Cora and see if he can rise in 3 days?
  11. “In the year 2025…”
  12. And Kike was fine. As long as nothing got hit to him…
  13. ftfy …
  14. He didn’t get any less than Ron Roenicke…
  15. Abreu and Duvall. Get some SP and bring on 2024!!
  16. In other news… https://www.yahoo.com/sports/report-sam-fuld-among-leading-152429737.html He’s been mentioned previously by some sources…
  17. Maybe a platoon bat?
  18. Did he ever actually complain about it? The story started off with a Ken Rosenthal article in The Sporting News that said Lackey was due to finish up his last year at minimum wage and if he didn’t like it, his only leverage would be to simply retire. He then went on to say ultimately the two sides will probably agree on a two year extension instead. Massarotti yhen write an article that started off but saying “Per Ken Risenthal, Lackey has threatened to retire rather than play his final year at minimum wage.” Of course, that’s not what Rosenthal said - not at all. And neither party spoke to Lackey about it. But from the Massarotti article sprung up this whole story about how Lackey refused to pitch for minimum wage. Lackey was then dealt to St. Louis, where he quietly pitched for minimum wage for the entirety of the 2015 season with no complaints…
  19. So no one thinks Noah Song is worth protecting?
  20. Yeah and so are my expectations. But a lot of that was due to 2018…
  21. Ok so the 2019 team was really more inline with our expectations. Or st least it should have been…
  22. Lies!! You’re lying. How could the Sox hitting with RISP have sent you to the liquor cabinet when there was no hitting with RISP?!?!
  23. I don’t consider backup 1b to be any level of priority and if it ever gets to be a need the only requirement shouldn’t be “already has a uniform”. After all, if your answer is Dalbec, you don’t really have one either…
  24. If you were asking who it is right now, why did you say we would have to sign Duvall first? I really don’t care who it is now. They could give Refsnyder a chance and it won’t ring the season…
  25. The Sox have three players on the 60 day IL who aren’t even on the 40 man roster yet and will have to be added once the season ends. Now two of them (Ort and Wyatt “Still Alive” Mills) are DFA candidates on there own. Hopefully the new CBO isn’t so enamored with Ort. But certainly Duran figures to be reinstated. Other good DFA candidates are: Jacques Garza Gillaspie Weiss Llovera Dalbec Mata If you want to protect 5 players from the Rule 5 draft, all of the ones listed need to go (one for Duran plus 5 others plus Ort and Mills). And if the Sox want to make a Rule 5 pick, they need to jettison someone else. And hey, maybe we can get a backup 1b in the Rule 5 Draft!!!
