  1. 1. Refsnyder did play games in Boston in late April. Arroyo continued his RF debut until July. 2. Who cares if anyone on here considered him? Cora and Bloom could and should have. Are you really saying “we didn’t mention him on this forum, so Cora was forced to stick Arroyo in RF.” 3. I don’t know why they signed Refsnyder, but if it was for his performance vs LHP then it makes much, much less sense to put Arroyo out in RF. 4. Or Bradley could have just played. Cora made that choice himself. He wasn’t stuck with a bad roster and no other options…
  2. He didn’t have to throw Arroyo into the OF in 2022. Cora made that choice. Cora did have other options, like leave Bradley out there vs LHP and at least know he’d have defense. Or Refsnyder, who was on the roster in April while Arroyo was still playing RF. Arroyo was 100% on Cora, who does have a clear addiction to platoons and probably wanted a way to get Arroyo into the lineup vs LHP…
  3. On his own? Doubtful. I’m sure Cora has input. But Cora owns the lineup…
  4. If the Sox had Eaton instead of Yoshida, Cora would have a set starting lineup and work Eaton in occasionally to keep him active. Now he has a player better than Eaton, and he has an option to do the same thing. This is on Cora for overcomplicating it…
  5. Well, Paredes was a “Fenway swing” Guy who really isn’t in the same category as those others. His career OPS of .765 is was the equivalent of a .780 on the 2025 Red Sox. I don’t think that’s out of reach for Durbin. But Devers and Marte are quite often .890 and above. That’s some rare air that Durbin likely never attains…
  6. I like the idea of learning those secondary pitches at the MLB level where he gets more short opportunities against actual MLB hitters. The main flaw is he accrues service time faster this way, but if the Sox continue their policy of extending young players, that might not matter. There is another more obvious way the OF sorts itself out, which is Cora just uses them the same way everyday, occasionally giving each the occasional off day. It’s the least complex and most likely plan…
  7. I think the OF rotation will sort itself out at some point. But I agree they just ignored the bullpen almost all off-season, with the biggest addition being Ryan Watson, until ST was practically over and they added some leftover ill-prepared table scraps that may or may not help. I think they could solve this easily by putting Tolle in the bullpen…
  8. I don’t know if their offense will be third in the AL again, but plenty of offenses with elite hitters are struggling. Through 4 games, the Sox have only scored 11 runs. But then through the same number of games, the Yankees and Phillies have only scored 14 runs, the Athletics have only scored 11 runs and the Padres have only scored 9. All of these teams do have those types of elite hitters folks wanted the Sox to add. Meanwhile, Milwaukee has scored 31 runs. Washington has scored 31 runs. The Angels have scored 27 runs. What hitter on any of these teams makes you envious of their lineups? I know someone is going to miss the point here and say “I don’t care about other teams” while then also using them as a baseline. It’s 4 games. Well last year through the first 4 games, the Sox also scored only 11 runs en route to a 89 win postseason appearance. And that was with Devers still in the lineup…
  9. Actually it looks to me like analytics are certainly present, but I’m not so sure they dominate to the extent you’re claiming. This team is still mostly Cora(although Cora himself can be heavily dependant on analytics)…
  10. Roman has an .800 OPS vs LHP, which is well above league average. It is a limited sample size, however. The difference between LHH vs LHP and RHH vs RHP is probably not as great as you think. Over the last 3 years, LHH have anout a .675 OPS vs LHP, while RHH have about a .700 OPS vs RHP. Of course that’s really not relevant, since we’re talking about two very specific LHH’s, one of who is Roman Anthony, whose numbers vs LHP are unlikely to drop just because Wilyer Abreu struggles vs LHP. Not to mention, not every team has an endless supply of LHP in their bullpen, and teams rarely carry LOOGY specialists now, as they were obsoleted by the 3 batter rule…
  11. There are all these underlying beliefs about left-handed people and their freakish biomechanical traits. “They throw across their body.” “They all hit outside pitches.” “They all worship Satan.” “They eat nothing except Saltines and mayonaise.” The inability of lefties to hit LHP is, like everything else, case by case. And you need only review the hitting of Triston Casas to disprove it as a universals truth..
  12. And then we laugh maniacally as they fell into my clever trap. Anthony is still pretty tough on LHP, or has been to date. They do get to weaken Duran by having him face a LHP. But after Duran I bring up Contreras, who does crush LHP and, thanks to the 3 batter rule…
  13. You know as well as I do all the flaws with drawing any conclusions from those observations. Probably best to get sufficient data before drawing any conclusions…
  14. If you’re not comparing them to the rest of the league, exactly what criteria are you using to say the offense isn’t good? You’re literally saying the Sox could lead all of MLB in scoring and you’d find them insufficient…
  15. The point isn’t that the blowout don’t effect the Sox RPG; it’s that they are not this huge factor in inflating the Sox RPG compared to other teams since every team will have them..
  16. I am getting more anti-Cora in my apparently misleading analogy…
  17. Or when the Sox finish the year top 5 in scoring and someone will say “Thats only because of the blowout wins.” Because, you know, the Sox are the only team in MLB to ever have blowout wins…
  18. I have been strongly trending down the anti-Cora slope. Double black diamond…
  19. It’s not that. I bring snacks…
  20. The Sox were third in the AL in scoring last year. Not quite sure they’ve reached the point where every run in sacred…
