    Durbin is clearly better than what he did in April and May. He started slow last year as well. Apparently the Sox butchered his swing to make him a hitter he wasn’t. He’s not going to carry this team to the postseason, but he should be a better hitter the rest of the way.

There are, per the questionably complete list of free agents on MLBTR accompanied wuth slapdash counting on my part, 26 mutual options in this year’s free agents on MLBTR class. 1-2 of them should be exercised at that rate. I can see sime if the cheaper Gary Sánchez/Ramon Urias/Griffin Canning options being exercised by both sides. Players likely to generate very little interest but would be more expensive to replace. Chapman only exercises his part if the rest of his season is a failure…

    That was the only option. Bregman for 5 years minimum. If you wanted him for fewer years, you were not in the running. Bear in mind Bregman already rejected 1 yr $40mill when he turned down his option…

    And if your kids struggle with third grade math, do you immediately demote them to second grade? I think if the team continues their current path, he gets swapped out with Cheng soon. By mid-July at the latest, once the Sox say “f*** it. Let’s see who wants Chapman, Gray and IKF.” At that point, if Mayer is still struggling, I suspect he gets demoted assuming he hasn’t already been. I wouldn’t mind if they brought up Cheng today or demoted Mayer when Sogard returned. And maybe they will. They only let Campbell slump for one month before demoting him…

    It may be a disaster, but folks who claim do already are at a minimum, impatient. Both these players have 5 or more years of control, so deciding “win/lose” on the deal in 3 months is beyond premature. Harrison has had 11 good starts with the Brewers, after barely getting any in Boston. Of course, he also had 35 fairly mediocre starts with the Giants that are never mentioned...

    If Bregman never got hurt, I doubt he gets called up at all last year. Given the infield injuries this year, I’d expect we saw him debut at some point…

    I think that was more related to geography than anything else. Schlitter is fine snd all, but if I’m going to be upset about the Sox letting some local kid go to the Yankees, Ben Rice is a much bigger catastrophe…

    Yeah I thought about Cheng as well. My guess is the Sox view Mayer as their best SS, especially with IKF as the only other candidate often starting elsewhere, they let Mayer start for now. If nothing gets better and the Sox fall out of contention and start trading folks, we might see Mayer get demoted and someone like Cheng replace him, as the Sox shift from doing what’s best for the team short term to doing what’s best for the team longer term. I suspect Boston will act like you said, but they haven’t run up the white flag just yet…

    Yes he was pressed into duty by an injury to Bregman, and Hes not being helped now by injuries to Story, Romy and Sogard. Some health there and maybe he gets demoted. Right now they have a bit of a shortage of starting infielders..
