    DFA Sherriff and demote Duran. If Sherriff clears waivers AGAIN, then no loss of depth anywhere. If someone claims Sherriff, not really a big loss. Substitute “Bleier” for Sherriff as you please. But I think Bleier is more likely to declare free agency than accept a demotion…

    Even if Pivetta got no raise, his $5.35mill salary would be third highest in the bullpen behind only Jansen and Martin. Unless Pivetta can establish himself as being worth it as a reliever or get back in the rotation, he is 100% on track to be non-tendered. No way the Sox have their third highest paid reliever doing mop up work…

    Most likely it will be Sherriff, although maybe Garza or (hopefully) Bleier.

    The latest he can be called up is July 3rd. But if they wait that long, he cannot go on the Injured List for the rest of the season. Still think the Phillies would be smart to simply work out a trade for Song…

    But you left out the most important factor - options. Duran can go to Worcester. Refsnyder and Tapia cannot, at least not without clearing waivers. Of course, demoting Duran to Worcester won’t get Duvall back on the 40 man roster. Someone has to go. Most likely, Ryan Sherriff, as he has cleared waivers before so a DFA likely won’t hurt the Sox pitching depth. Other candidates include Justin Garza, Rich Bleier and (a longshot, admittedly in) Refsnyder. Not likely they DFA Ref, but it’s certainly the cleanest move… I suspect they demote Duran and DFA Sherriff.

    For many, it is cathartic. And, hey, if posting here stops them from setting their small child’s Lego Fenway Park ablaze, I can support it. Unless there’s a little Lego Butch Hobson in the dugout. Then burn that baby to the ground!!!

    No but at some point letting Casas learn to hit LHP does make some sense. They will have to DFA someone to add Duvall. Refsnyder is certainly a candidate. Duran very likely isn’t. It could also be Ryan Sherriff or Justin Garza…

    Duvall will create a logjam and Duran has options. But the notion that his last 23 ABs mean more than the first 118 just makes zero sense. As I said, Duran has options. But adding Duvall will require DFAing (or trading, which is less likely) someone from the 40 man roster. And Duvall does make Refsnyder obsolete…
