  1. Joe Kelly wasn’t homegrown. He was acquired via trade with Allen Craig for John Lackey
  2. I meant to say starting pitcher. I don’t like it, but Houck does qualify. In fact, with Houck, Bello and Crawford all in the rotation right now, this might be the first time in a while the Sox have had 3 starting pitchers that came up through the system…
  3. Bello is the first legitimate pitching prospect to come up through the system and pitch for the Red Sox in a while. Disappointed about how few pitchers the Sox draft. At some point - hopefully in the very near future - that does have to change…
  4. And Rotoworld credibility takes a huge hit…
  5. Nearly every pitcher is better in the bullpen than the rotation. But “better” doesn’t always elevate them to “good”…
  6. They sort of went the opposite way from your DFA prediction…
  7. Is it really? He’s comparing Betts to Rafaela on one aspect of the game both so similarly. Both players are among the 1,000 (out of over 7,000,000,000) best human beings on the planet at baseball. One guy is top ten. The other is arguably anywhere from 500 to 1,000. (Maybe.) Not exactly sure. These comebacks are always a poor attempt to discredit a potentially valid point…
  8. He’s expected to staff it competitively. You know, like everyone in every business responsible for hiring does. Sorry. I didn’t think I had to be so specific. So, trying to keep it general what else do you expect?
  9. The Astros and Dodgers both repeatedly succeed because their farm system constantly produces minimum wage talent that allows for highly paid veterans. They can’t afford Betts and Freeman without balancing them out with Outman and Miller and Lux. That’s what (I think) the Sox want to be able to do…
  10. If Bloom is teaching his financial KPIs, he’s probably safe for now. Fans -and understandably so - don’t care about this stuff and like everything measured in wins and losses. But as you said, profitability is the bottom line. Sure mediocrity (or worse) costs you that swing vote dollar from fans. But that money can’t be counted on. The roles could be as simple as: 1. Bloom - staff the team within the budget 2. Cora - maximize the performance of that team If that’s the case, who is on the hot seat?
  11. From Rotoworld: Simply put, Hernández is finished playing shortstop. He's committed a staggering 13 throwing errors this season, including a couple at shortstop over the weekend, and has graded out as one of the worst defenders in baseball at the position from an advanced metrics standpoint. It sounds like Pablo Reyes and Yu Chang (hand), once he returns from the injured list, will get the bulk of the starts at the position until Trevor Story (elbow) is ready to return. It was worth a try, but it went on too long and it’s finally over…
  12. He’s a CF. When does Chang come back?
  13. There’s a fair argument. But it seems as though spending matters, too. I doubt Henry grades solely on W-L.
  14. It also doesn’t matter that the A’s didn’t want him. I was pointing out its not like he was released from the worst team in the league. But more important - does he represent a defensive upgrade at the position? Schreiber was released by the Tigers. Does that mean he isn’t an upgrade in the bullpen?
  15. But is he a better or worse option at SS than Kike? Is the bar at “great” here? Also bear in mind, Reyes wasn’t released; he was acquired…
  16. I’m not trying to get anyone fired. But I will promise this. Fair or not, agree or not, Cora will be fired before Bloom…
  17. I don’t see how his career .197 OPS is the answer here…
  18. And that hand shouldn’t have Kike at SS. Cora has other options, there, too…
  19. Maybe they went so far under because the Sox didn’t want any of the remaining high-priced free agents, and decided not to just spend for the sake of PR…
  20. If Kike is going to play - and he very likely is - it should be in CF. If Cora can’t see that, he should be replaced…
  21. With Duvall close, how does he get back in the lineup? I could see Duran getting demoted. In no way should Kike return to shortstop. CF. Full time. If you put Duvall in LF, with Kike in CF and Dugo in RF, that leaves questions about 2b, SS and Turner. Cora has used Turner as an emergency 2b; hopefully he doesn’t see him as a full time solution. Turner at 1b? Certainly possible, but should Casas get demoted? And even then, 2b and SS? Until Story and/or Mondesi gets back, the Reyes/Arroyo/Valdez crowd doesn’t really do it for me. But that’s the options. Unless they decide Hamilton deserves a chance. Not sure why he was added to the 40 man of he’s not an option at a position of weakness while tearing up AAA…
  22. Devers is hitting .241 and without the Gold Glove caliber defense. Bench him too?
  23. A lot of talk about this rotation Starter ERA Season: 5.29 Last 30 days: 4.40 Last 14 days: 4.23 Team OPS: Season: .786 Last 30 Days: .718 Last 14 days: .699 The starters, while certainly not good, might not be the problem here. Especially considering the play behind them…
  24. Only Casas, Devers and Duran played A ball in the Sox organization…
  25. Keep Reyes at least until Story is back. Have him at shortstop
