Orioles trailing tonight 6-0, and the AL East facing a collective 0-7 in the postseason. I don’t buy that this means the AL East was overrated. Those 7 games are not a better sample than the 810 games the division played in the regular season. But it did highlight the collective nap the division took at the trade deadline. As much as I’ve been down on Bloom for giving up in early August, the entire AL East that day added the following: Luis Urias, Aaron Civale, Jordan Hicks, Paul DeJeong, Jack Flaherty, and Keynan Middleton. I guess by getting Civale, Tampa was the “all in” team. Granted, most organizations are down on the Toronto and NY farm systems. But Tampa and Baltimore are universally in the top ten. Baltimore is number one and only came out of the deadline with their 7th best starting pitcher. Seriously, what the $&?@;/!?

As Soto is only 24, they’re a lot of good hitting left in him. Even a 14 year extension only takes him to the same age the Sox signed 31yo David Price to. Heck Soto could take a 5 year extension and still be one of the youngest and best free agents on the market when that expires…

With hitters like Soto, you don’t get hung up on which side of the plate they hit from. When the Dodgers acquired Betts, they didn’t like balk and say “wait. Wouldn’t we be better off with a lefty?” And you sure as hell do not avoid Soto because you already have Verdugo, Yoshida, Duran and Abreu. That said, Soto would be awesome. But it’s not very likely…

I agree. Limit the rookie OF to whoever wins the job. If the Sox are adding a RH bat, get one that can play RF at Fenway. Sign two SPs. And play ball!! (Assuming no ST injuries, which there usually are.)

Seriously? Is there a point here? Are we desperately trying to prove defense doesn’t matter by citing the rotation and performance of ONE PLAYER and stating team record hinges solely on that? Hey here’s some stats Triston Casas first half OPS: .728 Sox first half record: 48-43 Triston Casas second half OPS: 1.034. Sox second half record: 30-41 By that logic, offense doesn’t matter!!
